Obama provides plenty of comedy material. The problem is that liberals hate being the butt of the joke.

You mean they couldn’t even go after Biden....my God this guy should have provided them with at least ten seasons of material.
I don’t know much about Lovitz, but I’ve always suspected there are a lot more “liberals” in Hollywood who are fiscally more conservative, but it is the “go with the flow” attitude of Hollywood and the social issues that make them stay with the liberal party line. You have your true believers like Clooney, but a lot of people who moved there and/or aren’t into politics that much.
Plus they have to be afraid to speak up much. I even suspect some that say they are for Obama in public aren’t.
It really shows that having only 2 real parties is really clunky.
So THAT’s their excuse for 20 years of not being funny? Sorry, guys, I’m not buying it.

It's had its moments since then, growing more sparse as time moves on. 1988's Dukakis After Dark skit was damned funny.

The last decent cast included Will Ferrell, Phil Hartman and Chris Farley.

Its true, the obama administration is a PARODY... and PARODYing a PARODY is tough work and far more than the lazy staff at SNL could ever manage.

For a time, Fred Armisen was doing some good, somewhat biting sendups of Obama, but that hasn’t happened in awhile.
The NBC bosses must’ve gotten the memo.

SNL has been funny, very funny, and edgy, and brilliant. This is off the top of my head, and they’ve done a lot more that’s worked. They got lazy and slid into politics for cheap laughs starting with the very unfunny Chevy Chase.
That whacked half the audience looking for a laugh, since Conservatives are essentially happy people, and liberals are generally miserable.
They used to have folks that could be funny without being political. Now they’re as funny as the table of contents.
Or see your tax returns audited for the past five years.

Could you just see a skit that gets together Janet Reno and Janet napolitano? Man I see potential there.
