Kinda surprised at Gen. Amos.

Never let a woman fight my battles in my life.

I’m ashamed to see my Country do it.

Gen. James Amos, Marine Corps commandant, said selected groups of female Marines will get combat unit assignments later this year as part of a study on the appropriateness of women on the battlefield.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
More politically correct social engineering. The Pentagon brass-holes aren’t happy enough with shoving queers into the mix, they also want women.
Women in the military (WIMP) is BS and will get marines killed. But they don’t care all in the name of PC.
More than 140 U.S. military women have been killed in the wars.
Tank units?
My CO gave me his reasoning for not allowing women into Armor units: In Desert Shield, his unit was so bored and on edge, there were fist fights over the best MRE...he was confident that the addition of a woman to fight over would result in soldiers killing each other.
There is also the matter of living practically on top of each other, changing and bathing in front of each other, etc.
But the real issue is good ole upper body strength. I have seen women try to load a tank round (as a cadet)...not pretty. I’m sure there a few women out there who could do it...but the vast majority would be too slow. And, there were a variety of jobs on a tank that some of the smaller guys couldn’t do well - mostly dealing with maintenance and the track.
I’m left asking - Does this increase our readiness? If the answer is no, then why are we doing it?
I used to be a gunbunny on a M198 towed arty piece. We had to routinely run gun drills with reduced crews and you had better be able to pick up that 90 lb 155 shell by yourself. (Normally it’s two guys carrying it on a tray)
Feminization of the military.
In conjunction with a zero-tolerance mentality over common sense.
Study this:
Female Marine Captain is captured by Iranians. They beat her for a while and they check her to make sure that she can conceive.
They rape her repeatedly until she becomes pregnant, and force her to term. They cut the child from the womb at about the eight month and execute it on live TV with a bayonette.
That’s something to consider in any warfighting scenario analysis you care to gin up.
in practice women have served in combat jobs as special “attachments” during the Iraq war and in Afghanistan
There ya go. They have already been doing “combat mission” in the villages streets and LOC’s in the WOT and in the skies over Iraq and Afghmaistan.
Just without being called “combat missions”. And without combat training. And without combat pay.
Look up “Operation Lioness” and the term “FET” (female engagement teams)
I witnessed the introduction of women into a heavy industry plant in the early 80’s.. The women did fine, it's the men in the crews. There were several problems all of which had an adverse effect on efficiency and as a result plant production suffered.
1. Many times a romance blossoms and often one or both are married. Then the other guys become jealous or harbor resentment.
2. Sometime there is a coxswain in the crew who brags to the others how he is going to bed her and many times does. Again the rest of the crew harbors ill feeling.
3. The crew meets in the parking lot and following some serious drinking arguments flare up, usually having to do with the female.
4. The Anglo-Saxon male instinct as the protector of wife and family takes over men try to make her load light and do things to accommodate her. (hard to explain)
5. Once we inadvertently hired a slut who used her body to cause havoc on the whole shift. 6. there are more situations like these, but I'm having a senior moment. I think you get the point.
IMO - Mixing men and women in combat will not work. We are designed differently (physicaly, mentally, socially, etc.)and created for different purposes, and when they mix nature's beautiful design, trouble brews. The Marine women will be well trained and probably do fine, but the guys will be have a problem dealing with it. This will no doubt seriously affect the combat effectiveness of the unit. And that, of course, leads to casualties.
Woman should be allowed in to front line positions IF and ONLY IF they have to meet the same physical and combat standards that men have to meet.
As I pointed out during the “Tailhook Scandal” if women cannot protect themselves during a Cocktail party, how than they protect a country during a war?
This is madness, utter madness and it tells us just how far pc mentality has snuck into the military.
My son was a rifleman in the 101st AB in Iraq and he’s not a sexist by any stretch but he is adamant that NO WOMEN be in the infantry for some of the reasons mentioned already in this thread.
The things that happen in combat- the risks that soldiers/marines take and the way they necessarily conduct themselves in battle is unsuited for women and men together- regardless of how tough they are. It will handicap the MEN and the mission.
You want women in combat- segregate them and let the very few who will volunteer for it and be physically equipped to handle it be our Amazon brigade- but do NOT mix them with the men. (Even this would never work- it’s not pc enough.)
