Liberal journalist Michael Tomasky, in a column for the Daily Beast / Newsweek, voiced concern Tuesday that President Barack Obama has lost 16% of his support among U.S. Jews and may lose the elections in key states like Florida, come November. Tomasky, who is also the editor-in-chief of Democracy, analyzed Obama's first term vis-à-vis Israel and concluded that Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu outfoxed the President.
Tomasky cites a recent poll by the Public Religion Research Institute, in which 62% of 1,004 American Jews surveyed said that they would vote for Obama, noting that this is a sizeable downturn from 2008, when Obama got 78% of the Jewish vote. The fact that Obama had a similar level of support in April of 2008 does not comfort Tomasky, who notes that April 2008 was the height of the Rev. Jeremiah Wright affair, and thus the one point that was likely to be Obamas nadir with Jews."
If the current level of Jewish support for Obama holds, estimates Tomasky, it would be "good enough to carry New York and California (obviously), but maybe not Florida."
Obama might regain half of the lost support by November, but making up the rest may not be possible, the pundit writes, because of Obamas behavior toward Israel in the past three years.
In the Obama administration's early days, he explains, "Obama talked pretty tough with Netanyahu. He had four fifths of the Jewish vote and thought he had capital This was back when Obama still thought he really could change Washington through force of his personality."
At the time, Tomasky, too, believed Obama had Netanyahu cornered, and that even Congress was behind the President. But he was wrong, he now admits.

Obama could be urinating on Torahs on national TV and he will overwhelmingly carry the Jewish vote.
He should lose FL. But Jewish ire won’t be the reason. I am quite certain that the mystery of time travel will be revealed before the “Jewish vote” can be explained.
1) IS NOT a moslem
2) IS NOT a communist
3) DOES NOT EAT dogs
4) IS a friend of Bibi.
After nearly three years as 'poser'; this 'fraudulent friend of Israel should be well under the bus'' by now; and put there; by not just Jewish sentiment in Florida; but wherever these citizen voters reside. (Not to mention; the rest of the world's Jewish community; who could lead by example.)
No message has ever been more clear. Obama is NO FRIEND, of Israel. He is in fact, a dangerous threat. If only there were a few tire tracks on his suit; to show that these Jews, in fact; get it. . .
But no; a few months to go for vote; and they are just, not yet, 'anti-Obama'.
(If any of you here on this board; please explain! Or; rather, try to. . .)
Does anyone believe that Romney has the guts to come out strongly in favour of Israel and call out Obama for his pro-muslim, anti-Israel positions? These issues could cause a major shift of Jewish voters towards the GOP, but you’d have to have a Presidential candidate with the passion to go on the attack. Romney will pay lip service to Israel but he won’t spend political capital bringing a real fight to Obama. Romney likely can’t wait for his turn to hold hands with the Saudi sheiks, a la the Bushes, even if he doesn’t bow like Obama.
And his wife is a sweetheart, pretty, and most of all loves her country. (and does not tell me what to eat)
Nonsense.
Mitt could tell you, off the top of his head, how many states there are.
Passion; more importantly, 'courage'. Don't think for a minute that Romney (or RNC/GOP) has it.
Newt has it. . .but look where he is. . .Meantime, should Romney et al; make the best and most bold of decisions - to have Marco Rubio at VP; then Marco, will the one who is armed; and fearless.
(Allen West the same; but cannot think of any other Repubs, so honest and bold./sigh. . .) Clearly, West is not on the 'short list' for VP and the only realistic winner is Rubio. Am holding my breath for this one.
(Make Newt head of Dept of Education! Or something where his wisdom is shared; and respected. . .)
Have yet to be impressed by anything Repub insiders do; but just maybe they will get this right. And given how critical are our circumstances; I pray that they do. .. going forward.
That these stupid Jews continue to support socialism/fascism after Hitler indicates to me they are going get their just deserts at some point.
Then they will cry for people like me to save them again from the jaws of evil, good luck with that.
liberals are, first and foremost, liberals
Very well said Stock. ANYBODY who votes for the muslim boy and his administration’s ‘brown shirt’ goons......well, just to damn bad for them from there on out. No sympathy from myself for whatever comes their way. I can maybe see some younger Jewish voters being snowed by hussein but not the older/senior citizen Jewish people. Not with what they have seen and know, (first hand and from overall knowledge), there is no way in hell zero, or any democRAT, should get their vote. I will never understand the Jewish people voting for any ‘RAT.
If youd like to be on or off, please FR mail me.

No disrespect to Gil Ronen, but things look different from Israel, especially when you ignore the demographics.
good enough to carry New York and California (obviously), but maybe not Florida
OK, Jewish vote is important in New York, they're over 8% of the states population. Not exactly the black population, or Hispanic, or multiple Christian denominations, but a shift in 8.4% could be important. California, 3.3%, sorry, Jews aren't the decisive demographic in California. Nor in Florida at 3.4%, unless it's a close race.
....continuing your line of thought:
Mitt:
5) Was born in the USA,
6) Has eaten hot dogs,
7) Has a legitimate SSN
8) Hasn’t produced a fake birth certificate
The Bibi-Mitt friendship developed when they were young brilliant future stars.
hehe
Funny how this claim comes from Romney and not Bibi.
Where were Mitt’s grandparents born? Not that it makes any difference to me. Mitt doesn’t represent me or my values.
Obama won Florida by 230,000+ votes in 2008. Florida’s 300-400 thousand Jewish voters can’t be realistically divided up to make up that margin. Swinging 50,000 of those votes ain’t even close.
Like him or not, means nothing to me. I just have a pet peeve about idiots posting bullshit as if they knew what they were talking about.
Historic fact: No Democrat has ever won the general election when he got less than 68% of the Jewish vote. That vote is going down NOT up. Obama may fall to 60% among Jews which is a tough nut for any Democrat to crack.
9) Is thoughtful with his dog and provides air conditioning.
10) Has not attended Wright’s racist church
11) Didn’t live in Indonesia
12) Does not play basketball
Don’t forget the 2000 election. And Obama is sure to win fewer votes overall than he did last time. So Florida is likely to be much closer before even considering the Jewish vote. Thus a shift in the Jewish vote could very well tank Obama in Florida. As noted above, the shift is unlikely to matter in ever-blue NY and CA which Dems may never lose again. But Jews could also make a difference in Ohio and perhaps Pennsylvania if things are close.
Mitt may not be a conservative but one thing is damn sure - he and Bibi are tight, he would never leave our middle east ally in a lurch like Obama has.
Most important, black voters have got to be disilusioned. Their turnout in ‘08 was unbelievable in FL. They were lined up so far back, I couldn’t tell where the door to the polling place was.
