Romney fundraiser: Donors 'coming out of the woodwork'
By Cameron Joseph - 04/25/12 05:33 PM ET

Mitt Romney's fundraising has skyrocketed since he became the de facto nominee, a top Romney fundraiser told The Hill Wednesday evening.

"People are coming out of the woodwork," said the fundraiser, who requested not to be named. "A number of my friends who didn't want to get involved in the primary are now coming off the sidelines for the general election."

The Romney supporter told The Hill that two recent fundraisers in Florida had netted more than $3 million combined, and said the moment Romney and the Republican National Committee entered into a joint fundraising operation a number of top GOP donors who had been resistant to giving decided to make major donations.

"This all started when we signed the contract with the RNC — that's when the general election really began for us," the fundraiser said. "There's a lot of enthusiasm out there — I can in a week's time raise $1 million for an event."

Romney's schedule is very heavy on fundraising appearances the next month, and if he continues to bring in $1 million or more at most stops he could quickly close the gap with obama in campaign money. Romney finished March with a bit more than $10 million in the bank after having to spend heavily in the primary, while Obama had $104 million cash on hand.

Romney and the RNC have a combined fundraising goal of $800 million, according to a memo obtained by the New York Times. That figure would likely mean Romney outspends Obama — and that doesn't factor in the Republican-aligned outside groups, which are expected to outspend their Democratic counterparts by large margins.

Romney is going to raise a lot of money. He is very well connected and it would not surprise me if between Willard and the RNC they really do raise 800 million or more. Add in CrossroadsPAC and others and the Republicans might actually have more money than the Dems/Unions this election cycle.

It’s like this:
Behind door number one: bachelorette Ms. Helen Thomas; behind door number two: bachelorette Ms. Rosie O’Donnell; behind door number three, a ravenous, fourteen foot, man-eating tiger.

Well?

Yeah, I’m leaning toward #3 too, but I’m going to have to think about it some more.
You know what they say about big women: shade in the summer, heat in the winter.
And older women are ... grateful.
Being eaten alive might not be that bad. Maybe he’d bite my head off first. His breath can’t be as bad as the other two.
Maybe she could change? No, no way in .... what about just not opening any of the doors? What if they ALL came out?
Gee.

Has nothing to do with Romney. If these were Romney’s connections pulling in the money, he would have had it during the primary. These are anti-Obama people who would give the money to whoever the nominee is. The fact that the RNC started joint fundraising with Romney this early is just more reason why every Republican should be pissed that they were disenfranchised by the party before we had elected a nominee. Since when do they not stay unbiased during a primary?

Do you really think that a lot of conservatives who held their noses and voted for Juan in 2008 will now not vote for Mittens against an Obama who has so thoroughly demonstrated himself?

I don't.

I think it is both Romney supporters and ABO types. I think some Romney supporters didn't donate or donate much during the primaries because they expected Mitt to win eventually and didn't want their money spent running negative ads against the other GOP candidates.

Conservatives need to realize that the GOP no longer has any intent of representing us. If they did, they wouldn’t accept the nomination of a democrat. The party has slammed the door in our faces. Sure they’ll be back to beg, cry, and threaten when they realize how badly they’re going to lose but they’ve called our bluff one too many times.

There's that hyperbolic, Chicken-Little, The Sky is Falling argument that MittBots are so wont to use to try and badger someone into voting for the lying, left-wing, Progressive Liberal.

Nevermind that the American Federal Government is designed with it's seperation of powers to stop such an occurance from occuring.

Nevermind that the GOP will have one or both of the houses of the Legislative branch to absolutely stop Obama in his tracks if he attempted such nonsense.

And finally, Nevermind the 120 million+ guns in the hands of freedom-loving Americans that would never let this happen, just close your eyes to the truth about Romney being a lying, left-wing, Progressive Liberal and let the propaganda of fear wash over you and you head to the ballot box and keep you from remembering your principles, morals, and ethics.

Seems an irrational fear is all they have in the form of ammunition to support their boy Mitt Romney.

Well stated. Mitt is a hard-core Statist. If people believe things will be better with Mitt they are truly delusional.

Mitt will do nothing to reign in government. At the end of his term, the RATS will walk in with all the new voters, thanks to Mitt's strong embrace of Amnesty.

Conservatives need to know that ALL of Mitts failures will relentlessly be blamed on one thing --- CONSERVATIVES.

The Press, the left and most RINOs will have a field day assigning ALL the ills to the Conservative policies of Mitt. The reality is NONE of Mitt's policies will be Conservative.

So, for all the fools who will vote for Mitt know that Conservatives will be royally screwed by the end of his four years.

That's exactly the point many of us, including CrippleCreek are trying to make.

With Romney, we don't only have to go through his inevitable Progressive Liberalism, as he no longer has to pay attention to conservatives, but we will also have to deal with the aftermath, the destruction, just like in MA, of the National GOP as a home of conservatives, because he is going to destroy the GOP by his dalliances with the Left-wing.

Agreed, he's not going to touch the EPA, he's not going to do anything to rein in the marxist indoctrination in our schools. He's not going to cut spending or do anything to help the economy in any appreciable way. He's not going to stop wasting money on green energy scams. He won't do anything to encourage an expansion of our freedoms.

He's nothing but the candidate for people who don't have the courage to switch parties and become democrats and I refuse to accept their blame or their tantrums.
