Romney fundraiser: Donors 'coming out of the woodwork'
By Cameron Joseph - 04/25/12 05:33 PM ET
Mitt Romney's fundraising has skyrocketed since he became the de facto nominee, a top Romney fundraiser told The Hill Wednesday evening.
"People are coming out of the woodwork," said the fundraiser, who requested not to be named. "A number of my friends who didn't want to get involved in the primary are now coming off the sidelines for the general election."
The Romney supporter told The Hill that two recent fundraisers in Florida had netted more than $3 million combined, and said the moment Romney and the Republican National Committee entered into a joint fundraising operation a number of top GOP donors who had been resistant to giving decided to make major donations.
"This all started when we signed the contract with the RNC that's when the general election really began for us," the fundraiser said. "There's a lot of enthusiasm out there I can in a week's time raise $1 million for an event."
Romney's schedule is very heavy on fundraising appearances the next month, and if he continues to bring in $1 million or more at most stops he could quickly close the gap with obama in campaign money. Romney finished March with a bit more than $10 million in the bank after having to spend heavily in the primary, while Obama had $104 million cash on hand.
Romney and the RNC have a combined fundraising goal of $800 million, according to a memo obtained by the New York Times. That figure would likely mean Romney outspends Obama and that doesn't factor in the Republican-aligned outside groups, which are expected to outspend their Democratic counterparts by large margins.
I understand that this is true for you and a number of others here on FR.
My question to you was whether you thought a significant number of those who voted for McCain in November, 2008 will now not vote for Romney.
Conservatives need to realize that the GOP no longer has any intent of representing us. If they did, they wouldn’t accept the nomination of a democrat. The party has slammed the door in our faces. Sure they’ll be back to beg, cry, and threaten when they realize how badly they’re going to lose but they’ve called our bluff one too many times.
I voted for McCain last time despite not liking him.
I’m actively campaigning against Romney.
So since Obama is the other other viable candidate it would seem you are supporting him?
I’m not supporting Obama because unlike you I’m not voting for either democrat.
I can see how you can argue that Romney is a Democrat....but I can argue that Obama is a Democrat in name only since he actually is a Communist Racist Muslim. This, as you know, is not hyperbole. I will not take the risk for him to be re-elected and finish us off.
Choose your poison.
I wouldn’t piss on Myth Romney if he were on fire. He stands for gun control, gay marriage, and socialized medicine- all things which he has actually done, not theoretically might do. I’ll not give a dime to his campaign, nor vote for him.
As I said, I don’t really care. My conscience is clear and I’m not going to have to sell my soul.
I actually feel pretty good about being free of the Grand Old Plantation.
Massa can pick his own damn cotton.
He is going to have to pay people to support him just like the primary. He has no grass roots support.
Excellent! I’ll be sending in another very modest contribution soon. (Ya gotta pay to play. :)
I saw a chart the other day that showed how poorly Romney is doing in fundraising, and what was most shocking about it was how FEW people were actually giving money to him.
Aria, don’t let the self-appointed discourage you from voting for whomever YOU CHOOSE.
Keep your eye on the prises: Keeping the House, gaining control in the Senate and winning the Presidency. Obama is the enemy.

Right you are. Campaigning against the Republican nominee = campaigning for the socialist Obama. It’s really that simple, isn’t it?
They want to gussey it all up with hi-falutin’ language but you are either working against Obama or you’re working for him.
I work against him.

I'm actually way more concerned about the future of America than I am about any of this.
I thought we were going to show the GOP high ups what it means when you give us something less than a conservative. You lose and you get four more for the commie.
