Lowest turnout for a Presidential Preference Primary since the current system was established.

Voter turnout for the Republican Presidential Preference Primary was the lowest since the current system was established in 1980, according to Secretary of the State Denise Merrill.

Figures reported to Merrill's office show just 14.4 percent of eligible Republicans turned out for the Primary Tuesday.

I just can’t understand why the GOP rejects being a permanent majority party.

Remember the Harlem Globetrotters basketball team? The Washington Generals' job was to lose every game to them, and they were paid as well as the winners.

Sure, it was just exhibition sport, but I think the same thing applies in a way to the Dems and the Repukes.

Anyone busy cutting off our country’s nose to spite Romney’s face might want to rethink that strategy, if for no better reason than the SCOTUS appointments.

Seriously? Get real. Romney's judicial picks while Governor of Massachusetts would have made Obama proud. The majority of them were/are hard left.

If you're worried about what sort of people will wind up on the Supreme Court after 2013, you'd better start working your tail off on the US Senate races, because that's where the next high court picks will be confirmed or denied.

The primary system is broken. There needs be a conservative primary first who would then beat the establishment candidate.

I agree and I think you have found the key issue into why there is so much vitriol on free republic towards the nomination of Gov. Romney. It was expressed here many times as: "If only (Newt, Santorum, Perry, etc) would drop out then (Newt, Santorum, Perry, etc) can show he is the conservative that can beat Romney."

If we had a conservative caucus organization that selected a conservative candidate by a majority only voting process we could select a candidate that conservatives could rally behind. At least they would know that a majority of their fellow conservatives agreed.

But more importantly the conservative organization could then contribute money and manpower to their candidate giving them a ready made organization to combat the elites choice who will already have state republican organizations at their disposal.

"Better" than Obama? In what substantial way?

The difference between Husein and Mitt, IMHO, is this:

Hussein despises this country with a searing hatred.

Mitt cares about nothing-one way or the other-but himself.

YIKE! What a choice!

Rick dropped out when his numbers were up and seemingly climbing.

I think Rick "got the memo" and FreeRepublic had nothing to do with his decision to drop out of the race.

The fact that Romney is just sailing through this thing shows me what a minority we are.

For all of our back and forth, we didn't seem to make much of a difference in the 'anyone but Romney' vote.

Ron Paul should have dropped out months ago and advised his followers to choose another candidate. They still call in to talk shows and attempt to lambast us all for our blindness and stupidity. They stayed home.

Rick's followers did an equally stupid thing by voting for Rick, who was not in the race ... in spite of the warnings that a vote for Rick was a vote for Romney which is a vote for ozero.

No Guenevere, FR didn't sink Rick, we are our own favorite newspaper

See, there's the problem. Romney didn't "sail through". He spent umpteen millions of dollars viciously attacking the current frontrunning Conservative candidate, like political Whac-A-Mole.

The Republican-e in concert with the Drive-By Media shoved Rominy down our throats.

After years of driving a big truck, I don't think that much about how I got to be a driver, nor all the learning experiences, near misses, scarey moments, the money it cost, the affect driving had (now retired) on my family, etc., etc.

No, I just sail through my job .. driving ... the hardest part is staying awake'

That's what I meant by Romney sailing through ... all he did was show up, speak some words and stay awake.

His so-called amazing speech Tuesday night brought me back to the DNC speech in 2004 by an unknown black guy .. sounding waayyy too Republican at a Democrat convention. The people were wowed.

He sailed through also ... thanx to the teleprompter.

You are in favor of four more years of Obama because you actually believe he would appoint more conservative SCOTUS judges? lmao. Go right ahead and polish that Obama bumper sticker up on your Volt.

Nothing about the Presidential race precludes me or you from also pushing for a conservative Senate and I agree we should do so.

Then enjoy the next 4 years with Obama; in fact, enjoy the demise of the country.

LOL I'm 48 years old, you really think that childish little threat scares me any more?

Get over it.

Get over yourself.
I said nothing about who I voted for nor why.

Romney should quit and give his position to Sarah Palin.

The people want Sarah Palin, not Romney.

America NEEDS Sarah Palin, NOT Romney.

Romney should quit, and Newt, they should all just quit.
let it be a brokered convention. They still have an equal chance.

Run Sarah Run!

Perhaps your conscience is bothering you.....and that's a good thing...

...because I darn well doubt most of the other Rick slammers are losing a second of sleep.

..they came, they spat their vilest rhetoric.....they conquered....now they have crawled back into their holes...

..and the ones who still have a conscience are whining because we don't have a conservative to carry our message now.

I knew....when Free Republic declared Newt to be the chosen one.....that it could make a difference to people who are newly following or long time following this forum and trying to figure out who to support..

We can't have it both ways.....Free Republic is either one of the most influential online news forums.....or it's not.

So don't tell me that supporting Newt didn't make a difference in how folks thought about Santorum.

And IF it had Just been support of Newt, so be it.

But people with nasty, nasty dispositions and ugly ugly words were ALLOWED to daily disparage, insult, ridicule and downright lie about Rick Santorum.

I NEVER saw a single moderator ask them to pull back on the character assassination of Rick..

...or especially, the character assassination of fellow Freepers.

This was a political bloodbath..........and some of you still with a conscience will have to live with your part in it.

Juvenile, but a nice try. You know that's not what I said.

Your boy Romney has a record of appointing far left libs to the bench, which knocks out your number one reason for voting for him.

If you're trying to draw contrasts between Romney and Obama to justify voting for him, you've got your work cut out for you. Those two are opposite sides of the same coin.

Mitt cares about nothing-one way or the other-but himself.

I think you're going far too easy on Mitt. Take a look at his record in office. It doesn't read like someone who only cares about himself. It reads like the record of a committed left liberal.

I think some people have been fooled by his public relations. He holds himself up as a Republican (who's 'severely' conservative). When he's on script, he talks from the right. When he slips up, the real Mitt comes out, and he talks from the left. Hence, the infamous flip-flopping.

But when it comes to governing, it's all from the left. No flip-flopping there.
