Makes you wonder about the sincerity of some so-called Conservatives posting on FR. But, some of the insincere are being exposed now by their own words. And that’s a good thing.
I wish more FReepers would look at it this way.
Was looking for that sarc tag, but didn't find it. I'll have another look.
Why? There's no law that says that the Republicans have to be one of the major parties in our structurally-enforced two-party system.
A vote for a third party candidate weighs just as much as a vote for a Republican candidate. If a third party candidate were to get more votes than the Republican candidate, then the Republican becomes the "third party candidate."
If conservatives actually had backbones, they would understand that we could all band together to back a principled, movement-conservative candidate who is not Romney. Face it, the only thing really stopping this is the fact that most people are, by nature, simple-minded and unable to think outside the boxes in which they currently exist. They *assume* that the way it is now is the way it always has to be, and therefore end up perpetuating what they claim to hate.
Organization, funding, these are really not impediments to the rapid appearance of a strong third party organization, if significant numbers of conservatives would break out of the box and vote the way they believe, rather than how they've been frightened into voting by the GOP-E.
Organisation - what, you think the only people who know how to organise something exist in one of the two Parties? Seriously? With the way the GOP-E is driving off grassroots conservatives as we speak, the pool of organisers and workers that a conservative movement can tap is increasing daily.
Funding? Did you know that if 10 million conservatives (in a nation of, what, a statistical 124 million across the country) each donated $10 dollars, you'd have $100 million, right off the bat? That's not even talking about SuperPAC money that could become available if a serious movement really looked like it was getting started.
the landscape this year is a lot like 1992 - widespread discontent among conservatives coupled with increasingly disaffected conservative and moderate Dems, independents, and Republicans. In June of 1992, Perot was polling 40+% consistently. If he hadn't have started seeing little green men on his lawn and made such a hash out of his own campaign organisation, he could very well have won that year. As it stood, he still got 19%, even with having dropped out and become a wacko after July, before getting back in at the last moment.
Think about it - the only that keeping Romney a viable choice is a whole boatload of conservatives who *say* they don't like him.
DU’ers jerk off to these kinds of threads.
Terrorists crouch on carpets praising Allah for your success at dividing Republicans.
How soon before I see the Drudge headline that the once-great conservative website Free Republic is now flat-out PRO-OBAMA?
Shame on you.
I don’t plan to vote for Romney because he will have an “R” by his name but because he is my only hope to defeat Obama.
This post threw my mind into a wormhole and I awakened in a three-sun solar system on a small, happy planet, with fresh-cooked vegetables aplenty.
You should consider the smart move. Go get a picture of the justices on the SCOTUS. It looks like a hospice. There might be a lot of vacancies very soon. Do not let Obama pick more than half the court.
I am more and more reminded of a bobble-head circle jerk.
Mitt’s picks won’t be much better.
By not voting, you vote for Barry. As for Mitt not being conservative enough, remember Gitmo.
And you know this is her plan...how?
Reasons he is no better than Zero. Romneycare, no support for the 2nd Amendment, massive government spending.
Also if he gets elected and we win the House and Senate (which I believe will happen) then what is to stop the Repubs from just spending and doing everything Romeny wants.
If Zero wins the Repubs should and hopefully will fight tooth and nail against him. They will not do that with Romney, with a Romney win it will be spending like under GWB.
Those that do not vote for Romney must make the case that a victory for 0bama is preferable. Write ins, not voting, or voting 3rd party is futile and will not advance conservativism or stop or even slow down the march to socialism.
0bama will turn the nation into a socialist dictatorship; our republic will be gone. He will do this through court appointments, the adminsitrative state and executive fiat.
So, if you want a civil war, and inescapable decline, let 0bama win through the indifference of not voting, diversion through a 3rd party, or the active support of 0bama. George Soros, no doubt, is doing this very thing by hiring 5th column bloggers posing as conservatives that claim that they cannot tolerate Romney under any circumstance.
Question for those that oppose Romney? Would you vote for Romney over Chavez, Romney over Castro, Romney over Mugabe?
Remember Ross Perot? Third parties don't win.
Like it or not, politics is a numbers game, and the majority of the electorate is not conservative.
At some point you have to quit figuring odds and just do the right thing.
If conservatives are no longer capable of doing that, that scares me far more than the prospect of another term for Obama ever could.
If I was a pure idealist, I may not even have voted for Reagan. He did run deficits, keep social security in its present form, compromise with Tip O'Neil and pass amnesty. But, he was the best to deal with the Soviet Union and the Carter malaise. My ideal candidate now doesn't exist. I didn't hear any candidate supporting the repeal of the 16th and 17th amendments and privatization of social security. But, I am honest enough to acknowledge my ideal candidate would not have won.
Those that do not vote for Romney don’t have to make a case for anything. It’s a right and a privilege to not vote for Willard Romney.
Look, at the start of the primary season, Mittens wasn't even in my top 5 list. But he's the nominee, so I will hold my nose and vote for him, because another 4 more years of Obama will all but destroy this country, even if the GOP controls the House and Senate...judicial appts are just one aspect of the damage Obama can do.
Here's something to consider: Assume, hypothetically, just for the sake of argument, that in 2000, Bush was as disliked by conservatives then as Mitt is now. There are more than 2000+ FReepers in Florida. If 25% of them had refused to vote for Bush, (on principal) then Gore would have been president. That's a scary thought..Fat Albert in the Oval office on 9/11
Perot actually had a shot, but then he went “Cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs.”
Thanks for your reply: “At this point, to be a true conservative. “
Was there anyone in the primary that met your standard?
Well, prepare yourself for a Republican Party that no longer wins, then. Because they are well on their way to third-party status.
Looks like another ‘vent’ post.
I would call this choice another ‘lose-lose’.
(OK, but which one is the bigger lose??? LOL)
I remember deciding it was OK to vote for Mccain in 2008 only after I was sure he would lose, which was a little less than an hour before polls closed, not that it mattered in this state anyway.
Megyn Kelly in the FNC Election room reporting issue based exit polls just before I went to vote made it clear that McCain would not come close to winning.
Given that my state will give it to Obama again anyway (no matter what no doubt) I am thinking that my casting a protest vote for Romney against Obama is pretty pointless anyway, even if I was sure that Romney would lose.
Like many others here I am pretty sick of primaries already being over by the time they reach my state. That alone is a reason to give the R party the finger,
The "First Black President" IMPEACHED?
You place WAY too much faith in politicians.
--------------------------------------
I was for Daniels, then Perry, then Newt. Now I'm stuck with Mitt or wasting a vote. I look at these issues to ease the pain...
Energy, Israel, business, executive experience and knowledge, foreign policy, the incumbant's utterly divisive tactics (some fools here bark like they actually want a hot civil war), the world's lack of respect for us, the assault on religion...
Conservatives would love to be in control of the second party in a two-party system. Then Republicans, from their newly discovered third-party status, would be welcome to join us. Whatever.
My line in the sand is on the side that will prevent Barry Soetoro from sticking it to us in a second term.
For all you better-than-thou conservatives whose moral compass prevents them from voting for a less-than-perfect man in this completely screwed up world, I will pray for your souls while despising your actions. Any vote not cast or thrown away as a statement is a vote for this current jerk!
” Like many others here I am pretty sick of primaries already being over by the time they reach my state. That alone is a reason to give the R party the finger,”
Keep your finger.....let Obama sever his.....or his ear....or ? : )
(Sorry, I misspelled douche.)
Thanks for your reply.
However, it has far too many “ifs” that have no remote chance of happening to make a third party win a reasonable or logical assumption.
The next president will be either Romney or Obama. I’ll give you 1000 to 1 odds if you still think your assumption is reasonable or even remotely possible.
I did not like how he governed California. However, I enthusiasticly voted for hime in 1984. Hey, I was young.
With Romney the nominee, conservatives have apparently lost this round for the presidential race. The lesson is that conservatives do not have the national clout to select and elect a candidate.
A pragmatic rather than an emotional decision must then be made.
The line then must be redrawn. The new line is line/Obama.
What is to the left of the line no longer matters in this presidential election. Over the line is what must not be.
Any decision by any degree of conservative not to vote for the anti Obama candidate with the only chance of winning boils down to irrational self righteousness and pride.
The hope of conservatives then shifts to the influence that can be applied by true and other degrees of conservatives in the Senate and the House of Representatives. Their best efforts can prevail over a President Romney but will be thwarted by a President Biden. Conservatives can and do prevail in local elections.
For months I have said there was one reason for opposing Romney. He was Governor of Massachusetts. If he was good for them, he is bad for America.
At his worst, he will be restricted by the congress, he will nominate justices that will with absolute certainty be better than those chosen by Obama or Biden
the real problem now is can Romney have the will to leave Obama blood on the floor of every venue where he speaks. If he tries to be nice and not go after Obama and all he stands for ....... tooth and nail, the probability of losing is great.
He will not be helped by the totally irrational mormonophobes among us who are so set in there own religious convictions they are totally unable to allow any one to think differently than their own very narrow view. Ultimately, they do a disservice if they continue.
“This is not a game, kid. Whomever wins the presidency this November will appoint at least two Supreme Court Justices. If its Øbama, they are GUARANTEED to be Lib/Soc/Com.”
Are you willing to look your grandkids in the eye some day soon when they ask why you defaulted to a proven Marxist for President back in 2012 that deprived them of all their liberties??? Im not.
Its time to get over your tantrum for not getting the nominee you wanted. The process worked as designed and Mitt Romney is the nominee. So only he or the guy who walks to the podium like a PIMP will run the nation for the next 4 years.
Its time for everyone on this site to get 100% behind the only man who can remove the most destructive regime America has ever seen.
FREEPERS!!! Support Mitt Romney as though the fate of a FREE United States depended on it.
That is the reality!

How do you know this?
If you/we do the same work that a third party requires (less actually) within the GOP, there would be no need for a third party.
If we can't do it within the GOP, we darn sure can't do it starting from zero.
The problem ain't the party.
Won't work this time. Obama and his march to Marxism is over. And there's nothing you can do about it.
Well said.. agreed completely.
Constitutional SCOTUS, or Executive rubber-stamp
An authentic First LADY, or MaBelle Antoinette
A conservative VP, or more of this joker-
Anyway, as a still-registered "D" (for local reasons) in New York without much of an electoral say, it'd be more like voting in a Primary for someone a bit closer to my views
OK, say Obama is ‘evil’. But then ‘Romney the liberal’ is ‘evil light’.
So are we better off with ‘evil light’? Do we even have any idea what he would do in office?
I don’t care if Hillary Rosen said his wife never worked.
You have a strong conviction. But what good comes from despising those of us Conservatives who disagree and also have strong convictions?
It’s really easy to understand but hard for many FReepers to accept: The Republican Party no longer automatically receives all the Conservatives’ votes for the offices of President/Vice President.
I’m not voting for Romney, I’m vote against 0bama.
All of the GOP candidates fell well short of the conservative ideal this year, and they were to a certain extent fairly evenly matched. There was no obvious go-to choice for conservatives this year. Romney's win of the nomination only proves that conservatives weren't able to get one of this year's candidates nominated. In four years we will have other candidates who didn't run this year (Bobby Jindal, Paul Ryan, Marco Rubio, Rand Paul, ???). I see no reason to conclude that we conservatives will not be able to nominate one of our own in the future.
Notice that after the 2008 election no-one had ‘Don’t blame me, I voted for McCain’ bumper stickers.
I dont see them this time either.
I’m not voting for Romney, I’m voting against 0bama.
Conservatives like to scream bloody murder and threaten to create a third-party, etc. It's OK by me to have a late primary, ours is May 8. Let the conservatives actually accomplish something by May 8. Put someone up there who you can accept, who doesn't look like an idiot and is able to attract non-Tea Party voters also instead of scaring the pants off them. Surely it's not that hard to do. The reason we're stuck with Romney is a failure of conservatives rather than a grand conspiracy of the elites.
I will probably vote for him. Reason being is that Obama and his minions are going to really be terrible with 4 more and nothing to lose. Romney couldn’t be as bad as that.
In 2008, we could only imagine how bad Obama would be. This time, you have no doubt.
If Romney is that bad, let him get primaried out in 2016, but start preparing a good conservative as of yesterday.
Most people around here supported someone other than Romney. But, that didn’t work out.
Nothing to lose, might as well take a chance. It couldn’t get any worse.
What others do is their own business. Vote or don’t vote for Romney. Up to you.
“That’s why anyone who is not happy with their choices needs to at least show up and write in a vote so that their position is documented and can be analyzed for the fools that trying to run the show.”
Hence my tag.
I'll let Sam Adams deal with that one:
"It does not take a majority to prevail
but rather an irate, tireless minority, keen on setting brushfires of freedom in the minds of men."
My idea is a national primary with an instant runoff ballot.
