Korean store owners in LA prepare for "Trayvon Rally"

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — A rally expected to draw prominent civil rights leaders is scheduled to take place at a Los Angeles church Thursday to mark the two-month anniversary of Trayvon Martin’s death.
The rally starting at 5:30 p.m. at the West Los Angeles Church in Christ at 3045 Crenshaw Boulevard will be attended by the Martin family, NAACP President and CEO Benjamin Todd Jealous, the Rev. Al Sharpton, the Rev. Jesse Jackson, and Bishop Charles Blake, who preaches at the church.
Several celebrities are expected, including Stevie Wonder, Chaka Kahn, David Banner, Paul Rodriguez, radio host Big Boy and Magic Johnson
The rally is being held in part to “advocate for crime victims …, educate young people on conflict resolution techniques (and) increase public awareness against all forms of profiling,” the NAACP said in a statement.
Additionally, “this event will commemorate the two-month anniversary of Trayvon Martin’s death,” it said.
Showing up in South Central to whip up hatred against white people is extremely irresponsible.
Zimmerman should stage a rally in east LA!

The one silver lining I see is that they will be addressing conflict resolution. Perhaps they realize (if they didn’t before) that their son escalated the incident by confronting Zimmerman and then jumping him.
I would like to see them focus on that aspect, in the same way that Beth Holloway started advocating for students and parents taking more precautions in choosing spring break vacation spots.
Conflict resolution? Seems a little out of place at this sort of event.

There is no such thing as a “two month anniversary.” Anneversaries mark years, not months. I think these people want to mark the 20th anniversary of the Los Angeles riots with a re-enactment.

As a mom who has lost a daughter, these actions are not what grieving parents do. I still can not go into certain stores, restaurants, etc we use to go to and she died in 2004. Just my $.02. I don’t know why but they remind me of Cindy ?.

We are no longer a nation of laws, here now even murder trials are held according to political whimsy. Welcome to the United States of Zimbabwe.Few even know we have an “angry man” as president, cast in the same image as Robert Mugabe.But it is a fact. Donations were falling off, they had nothing to stir up new hatred and along came Trayvon like bright sar leading Jesse and Al once again into the spotlight.
When the riots break out these two should be arrested for instigating it, they have done one helluva job.
Zimmerman’s attorneys should be taking names to add to his coming civil suits.

A very tired agenda for this gathering. I’d suggest something more RADICAL, something absolutely CRAZY, that it might just make a difference in their lives. Here’s just three absolutely INSANE ideas:
1. Parents. Get married, preferably before babies arrive, and share the same last name. Stay married and faithful to each other.
2. Parenting. Make your kids the priority. Ensure they are raised with the expectation to learn as a youth and earn as an adult. To be responsible, contributing, polite, and faithful to their God.
3. Jobs. Work. Work two jobs if you have to. Learn from every employer and continually grow your skills.
Thank you. It is getting easier. God is in control. Two years after she died, my brother died in May. 2006, hubby died in July, 2006, along with my sister’s husband and in January, 2007, my mom died. Very odd. My mom, dad and my mom’s dad all died on January 6, in different years. My mom would have been 108 on the 26th. We all miss them but know they are in a much better place.
Sharpton can rally the crowd with chants of “No Justice. No Peace!”. Should work about as well as it did in Crown Heights
