Al Sharpton isn't going to be happy when he hears this. Apparently, George Zimmerman, who killed an unarmed Trayvon Martin in February, has black ancestors.
The 28-year-old former neighborhood watchman is depicted in the media as an "angry white man" with hatred toward other ethnic groups. That narrative fits perfectly with liberals' view of America as a racist nation in which black children live in constant fear of white vigilantes, but this story is taking some interesting twists.
The neighborhood watchman shot an unarmed Martin inside a gated condo complex in Sanford, FL.
It turns out he is of mixed ethnicity, and has "black roots through an Afro-Peruvian great-grandfather - the father of the maternal grandmother who helped raise him."
The complex guard was clearly overzealous when he confronted Martin, but young black men were suspected in a recent rash of break-ins in the area. The details of their altercation are murky, but witnesses support Zimmerman's version of events.
Zimmerman has already been prosecuted in the court of public opinion, so it's impossible to hold a fair trial. Most people have formed their opinions, but hopefully this new information will present a more nuanced picture of the tragic event.

(A) He wasn’t on “guard” duty or neighborhood watch when he spotted young Master Trayvon Martin, he was on his way to the store and (B) he didn’t confront him, based on what we know at this point.

If you have ever been part of a neighborhood watch program, anytime you are outside of your house, you are on “duty” because you are looking for things that are suspicious.
