Labor Dept. withdraws farm child labor rule one day after Daily Caller report goes viral
Daily Caller ^ | 4/26/12 | Paul Conner

Under pressure from farming advocates in rural communities, and following a report by The Daily Caller, the Obama administration withdrew a proposed rule Thursday that would have applied child labor laws to family farms.

Critics complained that the regulation would have drastically changed the extent to which children could work on farms owned by family members. The U.S. Department of Labor cited public outcry as the reason for withdrawing the rule.

“The decision to withdraw this rule — including provisions to define the ‘parental exemption’ — was made in response to thousands of comments expressing concerns about the effect of the proposed rules on small family-owned farms,” the Department said in a press release Thursday evening. “To be clear, this regulation will not be pursued for the duration of the Obama administration.”

The rule would have dramatically changed what types of chores children under the age of 16 could perform on and around American farms. It would have prohibited them from working with tobacco, operating almost all types of power-driven equipment and being employed to work with raw farm materials.

“If a farm incorporated then that’s a business and not a sole proprietorship. “

Any family farm is a business.

Many family businesses are incorporate.

Please tell me why they should have to “disincorporate” to continue running the farm?

Here is a better idea: the government can go screw itself.

And so can those who think we need more regulations and not less.

They are just cockroaches testing, testing, testing the limits of how far they can go without being noticed.

Thank you for your reply. My comment was >not especially about farm land but how some laws ‘created’ by the government actually benefit politians&cronies.

As I understand it, there has been an increase interest by investors in the buying&selling of farm land.

and participating in agriculture education programs including Future Farmers of America and 4-H.

I believe that was the real point here. I don't think is is so much the prohibition, they are camouflaging going after the rural and farm kids he can not reach any other way.

“The new regulations, first proposed August 31 by Labor Secretary Hilda Solis, would also revoke the government’s approval of safety training and certification taught by independent groups like 4-H and FFA, replacing them instead with a 90-hour federal government training course.”

...90-hour federal government training course....

Anyone care to guess what the 90 hours of “federal government training” will contain?

Perhaps something along the lines of what is in this?

"We cannot continue to rely only on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives that we've set," he said Wednesday. "We've got to have a civilian national security force that's just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded."

In the >>> EXACT <<< same PUBLIC statement he said he would make federal assistance conditional on school districts establishing service programs and set the goal of 50 hours of mandatory service a year for middle school and high school students.

...50 hours of mandatory service a year for middle school and high school students...

Just as he was three years ago, he is attempting mandatory control of the kids. Only now the monster is going after the rural and farm kids he can not reach any other way.

With the power grab at family farms, he wanted to make himself the all powerful, all knowing fed-gov the ultimate authority, placing himself above the parents.

Remember what the liar whispered to the communist, "Comrade, wait until after the election, I will have more flexibility to shove it up the American asses".

They got a call from the White House and were told that after the election, they’d have more ‘flexibility’.

A government rule that >increases farming costs may put more family farms on the market.

Very true.

It's a triple threat.
It appeases the Nanny statists and intended to show Obama is concerned about kids.
It helps Corporate "farms"by driving up the costs of small farmers and thereby eliminating their competition.
It drives farmland on the real estate market when land is permanently lost for agriculture

But don't be fooled that republicans are necessarily farmer's friend

Back when Nixon's Agricultural Secretary Earl Buttz told farmers to "Get Big or Get Out" and set farm policies accordingly.

Lots of family farms were lost in the seventies by such policies as much as by inflation and gas shortages.

Bad, bad time for farmers...

with the help of a competant attorney, the kids could be recorded as partial owners...seems very simple to me.

Don't worry, if Obama is Reelected to his “nothing to lose” Term, this Law will be back into effect in no time.

Anyone care to guess what the 90 hours of “federal government training” will contain?

Back in the late seventies I applied for a job for the local CCC(Civil Conservation Corps)

I got accepted and was thrilled I would be earning extra money for college and do work outdoors working in campgrounds, planting trees, clearing creeks, etc.

What we did was sit indoors and preformed mental and physical testing.

My favorite was seeing how fast one could put round and square blocks in their corresponding holes.

I kid you not....

Did I forget this was under the Carter Administration?

Because if you aren’t a corporation, you won’t have to act under the rules required for corporations. One can’t expect to have their cake and eat it too - there are other forms of business structure.

There were farming communities cultivating this country(land) with corn, pumpkins and potatoes, to name a few, long before The founding Fathers ever put pen to paper to frame the Constitution.

They were called Indians, or if you will, Native Americans.

Of course not.

One should bow to their government masters.

Are you sure you are on the right website?
