Skip to comments.8 Reasons Why Mitt Romney Is More Right Wing Than George W. Bush
Posted on 04/26/2012 8:47:34 PM PDT by NoLibZone
1. Bush passed a huge tax cut plan, mostly benefiting the wealthy. Romneys tax cut plan is four times larger, more heavily weighted to benefit ultra wealthy.
2. Bush signed the McCain-Feingold campaign finance law. Romney supports repealing virtually all campaign finance laws.
3. Bush supported comprehesive immigration reform, a path to citizenship for 12 million undocumented immigrants and provisions of the DREAM Act. Romney opposes all of it.

Bush was a mush, but Romney is just plain weak.
Neither of them are right-wing enough.
Well, that's damning with faint praise. John F. Kennedy was more right wing than Mitt Romney.
The only possible reason he might govern conservatively is because he will have to rely on conservatives to get elected and potentially reelected.
and the original source is a left wing website called “thinkprogress.org”
They’re comparing what Bush did to what Romney says he will do!?! Like everything he did or not there’s one way Bush is better than Romney. He did what he said he would do.
But they're about as good as we're going to get.
I stopped reading after that sentence.
RULE #1 - RULE #2 - RULE #3 - RULE #4 - RULE #5
Never believe what Romney says - HE IS A KNOWN LIAR!
So much for what Romney says ...
And he has his staff working 24/7 on 'who can I trash today to make myself look better', 'who can I get to support me today', I think we need a few more articles that 'Newt is dropping out', and a few more that 'all the troops will rallying around me'. Get busy peons!
I'd rather not hear 'what Romney says' until the 12th of never!
Dude. This has to be the most left wing site I have seen in a while. All type of Obummer pimping going on there. There is an article whining that Obummer isn’t pushing Global Warming hard enough. WTF?
Romney “says” a lot. And most of it contradicts with his actual record. Not to mention his previous statements. I frankly find it wholly impossible to trust him on any issue or any thing.
yeah, I’ve been enjoying comments completely oblivious to who the two authors ARE .. much less what they are saying and to whom. They’re telling their far left wing readers/fans .. if you think Bush was bad, wait till you check out Romney. And it’s all being confirmed at FR.
George W. Bush grew spending on domestic programs more than Bill Clinton did and racked up deficits that were record-breaking at the time. That doesn’t sound right wing to me.
Problem is - just as a lot of the Romney apologists floating around - it misstates and even manipulates Romney positions. Of course, we also must take into account that Romney has a reputation for being somewhat Kerry-esque - aka - a flip-flopper. So what he says on this campaign stop or in this interview, may very well be something completely different a week later.
Several of the points don’t make a lick of sense (on top of the misstatements and manipulations):
Tax cut - I have never been anything remotely close to being “wealthy” - not even to the casual observer... yet I benefitted directly from the “Bush Tax Cuts” - as did millions of Americans who saw their investments rise, and their paychecks grow (and business expansion).
And of course Romney supports repeal of “all campaign finance laws”... I suppose he would even like to be able to LEGALLY take bribes...errr... campaign contributions from the ChiComs and others... Repeal all campaign finance laws, and George Soros can just buy himself a president - and not have to hide it behind his vast network of corporations and foundations.
Romney’s so-called position on immigration counts on voluntary self-deportation, but he is in no way supportive of penalties for those who employe illegals. And he is now “on board” with DREAM Act-lite.
LOL!! Conservatives aren't responsible for him being the weakest of all candidates so obama has an easy knockout in the ring.
He has to rely on his own pitiful self and his supporters because Conservatives $upported and voted for NEWT! We take NO responsibility for Romney.
The media and barry’s war room has more info on Romney than FR servers can hold. Remember that when you feel the need to twist things.
Romney is definitely teleprompter material - he needs to be kept on track and then he can blame the teleprompter and say I never said that, the teleprompter did!
And what is it with you and Newt? Your boy is out. You don't have to like it, but you may as well accept it.
Sorry, I have no need to twist things. I am just amused at FReepers confirming the writings of Alex Seitz=Wald. The far left meets the far right and it turns out they are one and the same.
LOL. I know. It is blowing my mind that folks here are openly discussing a talking point that a Regime loving site is pumping out like is is real news and info.
Doesn’t anyone check sources before posting anymore? Pretty soon we will be posting stuff from HuffPo like it is legit.
People actually get paid to write this drivel BS?
“Romney opposes all of it.”
Well I hope this is ture, but doesn’t Romney have a way of “evolving” after the election?
But Romney is a political mercenary. IF he wins, conservatives need to hold his feet to a very big fire.
Affirming the words of Alex Seitz=Wald? I missed it - did he call him a liar?
The ‘rats and rino’s are one - let’s keep it honest even though Romney is the topic.
GW Bush was a strong leader. We were fortunate to have him at the helm following 9/11. Maybe someday he’ll get the credit due him.
You will never get a man right wing enough to win in federal politics. Washington and the federal union is too corrupt and powerful to give up what it has taken.
For all the good that it will do, but I wont love him, and if he don’t back off when we take back our ground with State actions, Ill gladly feed him to the sharks.
Your right Washington has the game rigged in its favor and we need to stop playing their game. But that nessitates we also stop playing on their field. We have to ignore the presidency and undercut them from the outside. Nully and isolate Washington from the outside.
Send Mitt to Washington with one simple directive leave our States alone or we will find a democrat we can beat into doing that. We don’t have to expect him to do anything we just have to expect him to sit back and do nothing while we do the work.
But at the same time, we have got to do something. Conservatives aren't making any headway, we are merely trying to hold ground and losing fast. The country is sinking under the sheer weight of illegals, welfare-saps, EBT-abusers, non-producers/non-taxpayers, and other assorted liberal gimme-gimmes.
The whole thing is just incredibly frustrating.
He was a very good leader for the time. People forget that.
He didn’t do everything right...but what president has?
History will tell the tale.
Wait, it gets better:
4. Bush enacted a historic expansion of Medicare. Romney wants to end Medicare as we know it.
GEORGE W. BUSH: Successfully pushed for a major expansion of Medicare, providing seniors with prescription drug benefits. [CNN, 12/08/03]
MITT ROMNEY: Would end Medicare as we know it by turning into a voucher sytem. [TNR, 12/9/11]
5. Bush signed a substantial increase to the minimum wage. Romney opposes increasing the minimum wage.
GEORGE W. BUSH: Signed legislation increasing the minimum wage from $5.85 an hour to $7.25 an hour [Employer Advisor, 5/30/07]
MITT ROMNEY: Opposes increasing the minimum wage. [CNBC, 3/5/12]
6. Bush created higher fuel efficiency standards. Romney says even current standards are too high.
GEORGE W. BUSH: Signed higher fuel efficiency standards for cars into law, raising CAFE standards to at least 35 miles per gallon by 2020. [ThinkProgress, 3/25/08]
MITT ROMNEY: Opposes raising CAFE standards, saying existing standards have hurt domestic automakers. [Mitt Romney, 2/24/12]
7. Bush acknowledged global warming is caused by humans. Romney says we dont know.
GEORGE W. BUSH: Acknowledged that carbon emissions by humans is causing global warming stating, I recognize the surface of the earth is warmer and that an increase in greenhouse gases caused by humans is contributing to the problem. [NYT, 1/10/07]
MITT ROMNEY: Refuses to acknowlege that carbon emmissions by humans is causing global warming, stating we dont know whats causing climate change. [CBS, 10/28/11]
8. Bush lauched one of the biggest land conservation programs in U.S. history. Romney says the federal government owns too much land.
GEORGE W. BUSH: Used his executive authority to create the worlds largest marine preserve and considered launching one of the biggest conservation programs in U.S. history without congressional approval. [NPR, 5/23/08]
MITT ROMNEY: Questions the value of federal conservation, saying, I dont know why the government owns so much of this land. [ThinkProgress, 2/2/12]
Romney is positioning himself as the most conservative Republican nominee since Barry Goldwater in 1964.
Compared to this article, HuffPo IS legit !!!!
One reason why Romney is more Socialist than 0bama:
TITLE OF THE THREAD: “8 Reasons Why Mitt Romney Is More Right Wing Than George W. Bush” americablog.com ^ | April 26 2012 | By Judd Legum and Alex Seitz-Wald “
The topic is Romney According to Judd Legum and Alex Seitz-Wald. Do you even know who they are? Thumbnail: the far far, far left. Thus, FReepers obsessed with their hatred for Romney being in accord with them is amusing any way an objective person might want to look at it.
“8 Reasons Why Mitt Romney is More Right Wing ... “
I like a good joke as well—or better—than the next guy, but puhleeze ....
I expect we’ll see more and more of risible twaddle like this as Romney and his greasy robots come around in the months to close us on his his snake oil sale: wheedling (”Romney is actually conservative. Did I say conservative? I meant to say `right wing’!”) rationalizing (”Sitting out is a vote for Obama!” No, it isn’t.) and cajoling, making arguments that `Sitting at home will get us Obama!’ as in 2008, when we swallowed our vomit and voted for Palin and still lost because Obama was an unknown, while McCain was a “moderate” looser. Like Romney.
The American public has taken Obama’s measure and he has been found lacking. Like Romney, here on FR.
If the public and GOP want to vote for a “moderate” looser, more power to `em—they can go to hell any way they want.
If Palin falls on her GOP sword and endorses him, I’ll still follow my conscience. As it is, Romney is Obama with an (R) after his name.
“But he’s not as bad as Obama!” Listen to yourselves.
Unless he signs his name to a charter pledging his defense of what we here believe—life, guns, national sovereignty, sane fiscal policies, reigning in a government run amok, social, economic and tax policies that don’t penalize those of us actually pulling the cart—why should we lend our support to policies that do the opposite? That work directly against our interests? You can believe the Democrats will have a platform; our problem, Romney could stand on it.
You `bots can plead, whine and threaten all you want. No way, no how: Not this conservative. Until you talk your boy into *express* agreement to planks that are nailed to the platform this summer, you can peddle your papers to someone else.
“Thus, FReepers obsessed with their hatred for Romney”
Yeah, that’s right Ed. We’re haters. That’s what the Clinton scoundrels said about us too, when he was asssaulting women in the Oval office and on the road, and perjuring himself every time he opened his mouth, and we were calling him on it.
LOL!! So how many 'far's does the NYT, or MSNC get?
How many 'far's does a pro homo, baby killing killing candidate get?
You want objective? What the freak is a pro homo, baby killing, liberal appointing judges, socialistic healthcare candidate DOING on a GOP ticket?
This is a conservative site - and I'm NOT agreeing with you and it has nothing to do with this article because ANY thread article about Romney - you will get the same response. So STOP with your play acting!
That’s his style - trash someone to make himself look better - now it’s Bush, he took over for Barry, that was his gig!! Birds of a feather.
- His whole campaign was trashing Newt! And before that it was SARAH to make sure the road was cleared away for him.
What a truly pathetic excuse for a man - if there ever was an empty suit, it is Romney!
1. Romney’s tax cuts were more than offset by increases in fees on necessary services. The tax cut they give Romney credit for is a campaign promise. Given his track record as governor - LOL.
2. Romney was for McCain-Feingold at the time. Again, it is a promise that they credit him with.
3. Romney did nothing to go after sanctuary cities in his own state, supported various incarnations of amnesty, and only after leaving office did he change his tune.
4. Romney promises to end Medicare, but presided over Romneycare, something larger and more ominous.
5. Romney says he opposes hikes in minimum wage and that he vetoed one and wishes to repeal it now. As recently as February, you can find him supporting automatic hikes in it.
6. Romney says he will repeal CAFE vs. this from last year:
“”I believe the world is getting warmer, and I believe that humans have contributed to that..”
“It’s important for us to reduce our emissions of pollutants and greenhouse gases that may be significant contributors.”
7. Claims that human global warming is fake, but as recently as last year uttered #6
8. Romney now says “too much government land” vs. “Former Governor Mitt Romneys proposal to designate the Berkshires and all of Western Massachusetts as national forest is being considered once again. Massachusetts is one of just six states without national forest designation, a situation the Romney administration sought to counter in 2003.”
I would have to rate this one BUSTED.
We should judge them on their actual records, not their words that keep changing.
I’m just plain not voting for President.
Yep. Romney's biggest problem is that he cannot be trusted. He says whatever he thinks he needs to say.
If you go back and study the Mittens/Kennedy race from 1994, you see how Mittens ran like a coward from the liberal press until he was more liberal (more gay-friendly, etc.) than Kennedy. It was pathetic. By the time this upcoming campaign is over Mittens will be, for example, more green-friendly than even the craziest rats. The Etch-a-Sketch candidate will position himself as a "moderate". Count on it. You can't polish a turd.
No matter who wins in November, those George W. Bush "Miss Me Yet?" bumper stickers are going to be more popular than ever.
