Everyone please send whatever you are able to, whether it is $10, $100 or $1,000+. The DUmmies, Morons, Kos Kiddies and that crew are laughing up their sleeves. Jim may have to make this site members only or allow ads. Better for us to just help with what we can. Maybe you can donate as a memorial for a lost loved one, a servicemember who never made it home or was disabled defending our country. Perhaps you'd like to give to keep free discussion alive and to show them that we're not knuckling under. I'm sure a well thought out or prayerful meditation will lead you to see the need and how you can help. If every registered FReeper and our lurkers would each just help out with a fin or a sawbuck, or better yet a Ben Franklin, we could put this to bed and get on with the conservative cause.

I think it depends...a few days ago a poster proclaimed that she was an “idiot” for indicating she’d support Romney if he ran against Obama. I don’t recall that poster being censured; presumably because he was on the right side of the issue that trumps all other issues.

I know the attacks happened (I received plenty of them for supporting Perry), but this site (and others) were just overwhelmed with it for awhile. I just don't see what the FR moderators could have realistically done. We just kinda had to get through that. I just don't blame the owner of this site or its moderators for the flood of anti-Perry stuff. It was just so much for awhile I don't think there was a practical way to stop it short of draconian methods that would have ended up causing even more problems. I think this was the direct result of Sarah Palin's actions. Her endless tease campaign caused a lot of damage to our primaries. A LOT of conservatives were so sure she was going to run and were determined to help clear the way for her - Perry (at least for awhile) was the most obvious threat to her candidacy. While Sarah was still dithering, there was a great risk that his campaign could have raised lots of money and established itself as the de-facto anti-Romney candidate. Lots of analysts were already declaring the primary was Perry's to lose. Many active Palin supporters simply went in to war room, overdrive mode and sought to destroy Rick before he could endanger a Palin campaign they were convinced was right around the corner.
You said it. Reagan also reached out to Tip O'Neill. He was a pragmatist, when all was said and done.

You know darn right well what conservatism is and don't bother playing games here with me about it. God given inalienable rights, as our Founding Founders understood, stated, fought for and died for, as embodied in the Declaration of Independence.

You should learn a little history, though. The Founders were not whatever the modern interpretation of "real" conservatives is according to FR. The modern terms "conservative" and "liberal" didn't exist 236 years ago and have no application to the Founders or the times in which they lived. They were men and women of The Enlightenment. They were -- horrors -- the elites and intellectuals of their day. Their ideas were truly radical for the time. In fact, in the period and context in which they were created, both the Declaration and Constitution were the most radical political documents ever written.
The core cabal here at FR hasn't a clue about what the kind of radicalism of the Founders means even in our times, let alone how critical it is for us to conserve the Founders' ideas and legacy. What is on display at FR these days is an ugly totalitarian impulse that is the antithesis of their legacy.

Following that time, even after he RE-REGISTERED REPUBLICAN TO ENTER MASSACHUSETTS POLITICS Romney campaigned as the anti-Reagan, the anti-’Jesse Helms types’, against the Contract with America, and was fund raising for Planned Parenthood. Romney was rabidly pro-gay, and antigun.
Romney is a dedicated lifelong, anti-conservative, he and his anti-war, presidential candidate father stormed off the convention floor at the 1964 Republican convention IN PROTEST AGAINST GOLDWATER’S NOMINATION. For years Romney was one of America’s most vocal, passionately pro-abortion politicians, explaining that his entire family had become dedicatedly pro-abortion in 1963.
Changing or massaging an issue or two is totally different than at age 59 in preparation to run in a different election, suddenly reversing ALL of your lifelong political positions, try to imagine any politician pulling off that trick or being in a position to need to do it to run to LEAD his chosen party.

I plan to hitch my hopes on all the true Conservatives down ticket plus a few amendment issues, i.e.; Gay Marriage. If, and I DO mean if, Romney is the nominee after all the primaries are done and the "people" have spoken, I will probably have to hold my nose yet again and vote for him. The thought of four more years of the Obamanation is sickening. A strong Conservative House and stronger Senate can keep whatever big ideas Romney may have in check and then we can look to 2016 to drive home the truth that Conservatives are tired of being treated as the red-headed step children of the Republican Party and start VERY early to put one of our own into the highest office. Until then, I do not plan on sending the GOP one red cent! Free Republic, on the other hand, will always get my support.
I don’t know about you but I have actually changed peoples minds about things by debating them on this very site. Many of them in fact. Some of those debates were polite. others less so but either is FAR superior than the constant preaching to the choir that goes on here today IMHO.

Please define a romneybot so we are all really clear. I'm pretty sure it is exactly this kind of slur that many people are getting sick of. Is Sarah Palin who is ABO and will be voting for Mitt, a romneybot? How about Newt, Santorum, Cain, Perry, Cheney? All romneybots? Is Jim Demint a romneybot? Is Tom Coburn a romneybot? Are the 90-95% of conservatives/Republicans that are going to vote for Willard all romneybots? Is everyone that recognizes that only a vote for the GOP nominee can help defeat the dog eater a romneybot?
Some of you people, particular the more obnoxious ones, throw that term around as if we all love and are thrilled with Romney. Very few people on FR actually wanted Romney and most still really don't like him. The reality is Willard is the nominee though, and for many/most of us it is simply about defeating Obama. Very few people are singing Romney's praises here, but I think most recognize Mitt is the only vehicle available to dump Obama.
