It is always godly to maintain ones righteous convictions even in the face of great personal risk.
The danger is believing your convictions are righteous because they are your convictions and believing that holding to them is godly when it may be nothing more than stubbornness and believing that the great personal risk into which it puts you is, in and of itself, evidence of their godliness and righteousness:
"There is a way that seemeth right to a man but the end thereof is death."
