I’m a White Republican Raising a Black Child: Deal With It
Patheos ^ | April 26, 2012 | Nancy French

...This Presidential campaign cycle is very different for our family than the one in 2008. This time around, we have a four-year-old daughter we adopted from Ethiopia two years ago...

Because we’ve had the audacity to appear in public with our family, we’ve been getting hate mail from liberals who are deeply offended that a white family would raise a black child (the Huffington Post posted a video of Naomi and me at CPAC and it generated more than 1,000 comments, many of them utterly vile). Usually, I laugh at baseless criticism and it inspires me to work even harder at artfully annoying my critics. But when I get accused of actually harming my daughter by daring to raise her, it infuriates me. See, for example, an excerpt from tonight’s Facebook message:

“I feel so sorry for your little girl! She has a hard complex life ahead of her! She should not be raised by people who vote against her best interests.”

(It was longer and much more offensive.)

Who wouldn’t want to adopt that cutie?

Because there is no such thing as a binding contract with a women in this country when children are involved.

Now, that’s good question, I mean it. It’s like a supermarket of adoptable children out there, isn’t it. You can go to Vietnam or the Ukraine (parents likely alkies), or Ethopia, or a number of other places. Still, I suspect that the race of the child is for the seekers a rather minor consideration. I could be wrong.

“Yes they are: they went to Ethiopia to adopt. Thus, they specifically wanted to adopt a Black child. Why?”

I won't pretend to know all the details, but if they are
saving a child from this hell-hole I wouldn't get hung up on
a few technicalities.

You are assuming they went there because they wanted a black child.

Do you know which countries have the best international adoption programs?

Why go to the other side of the world to adopt?

For the answer to that, look at the regulations, the time required, and the expenses of adopting an American baby with adopting somewhere else.

>Why go to the other side of the world to adopt?<

Oh, I don’t know, maybe there aren’t enough available babies in this country? My nephew adopted a child from Eastern Europe because he and his wife would have been on a waiting list for years. Not only that, they were able to give a child who was in an orphanage a loving home.

Frankly, it’s a moving target.

What was a speedy process last year may have slowed to a crawl this year. Furthermore, each country has idiosyncrasies that can make or break your adoption.

“Who wouldn’t want to adopt that cutie?”

Having taken on two beautiful stepdaughters I will say that
there is the hassle of mining the front yard and putting out
all that barbed wire.

Curious do you have kids?
Why would someone not go to a hellhole like Ethiopia and rescue a kid?
Why does the skin color matter in the least?

That’s been my theory why Bill Gates and others choose to spend their fortunes on charity work outside the borders of this country. Who needs to deal with regulations, lawsuits, greedy interest groups in the US?! The corruption in the Third World is so much more straight forward and easy to deal with, and your reputation stateside doesn’t suffer a bit.

Little Coulton’s mommy laughed her ass off at daycare last week when I told him “ So you’re the first one to get *the talk*” about my baby girl, huh?”

I swear he smirked at me like he was 30 instead of 3!

“So why didn’t they “rescue” one from Eastern Europe? Russia? Mexico? South America?”

Why does it matter? A kid is a kid. God made them all.

But the fact that they went to Ethiopia to adopt shows that they did specifically seek to adopt a Black child.

No, it doesn't.
