White House Shrugs off "Crucify Them" Comments

The outrage continues to grow over the revelation by EPA Region VI Administrator Al Armendariz that the "general philosophy" of the EPA regarding regulations of oil and gas producers is to "crucify them."  Armendariz says the EPA believes in singling out an individual oil company, punish it "as hard as you can," and make an example of it to scare others into submission.

It's an intimidation tactic the he borrowed from the ancient Romans:

"The Romans used to conquer little villages in the Mediterranean.  They'd go into a little Turkish town somewhere, they'd find the first five guys they saw, and they would crucify them. And then you know that town was really easy to manage for the next few years." (Video clip here.)

The White House shrugged off the "crucify them" characterization by the regulator noting he would keep his job.  The harshest thing his boss EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson had to say is that Armendariz comments were "disappointing."  But, no one has said Armendariz misrepresented the "general philosophy" in practice by the Administration.

Oklahoma Senator James Inhofe (R-OK) first exposed the damning video of Armendariz's comments, and has been leading an investigation into EPA's tactics and war on energy.  Inhofe is the Ranking Member of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee.

The Obama Administration is dismissive of Armendariz's revelation, but others see it as exposing the real agenda.   Congressman John Fleming of Louisiana, where thousands of jobs have been lost due to the heavy handed moratorium imposed in the gulf by the Obama Administration, nailed it.  "The use of threats and intimidation to force energy companies to submit to an extremist agenda may be fitting under a totalitarian regime, but it is never acceptable in the United States," Fleming said.

Inhofe cites some hard evidence of the EPA's regulatory hard ball.  Despite a natural gas boom on private land, the Energy Information Agency (EIA) reports natural gas sales of production from federal lands are down 17% since 2008, Inhofe said in a recent Senate floor speech.

Wow. Can you imagine the fallout if this had happened during the Bush administration? Not only would he have lost his job but we'd be searching for a new EPA head the next day. They really don't understand how far this administration has gone to the dark side.

He is an enemy to the US Constitution and truly an enemy to the people of this country. So is everyone above him.

It would be interesting to see the same stat for oil. Obama likes to brag that oil production is up but apparently most of it is on non-federal lands.

Can you imagine of any law enforcement entity, local, state, or Federal, espoused such a “philosophy?” Or how about our military taking such an approach against terrorists (that supposedly no longer exist, if they ever actually did according to Obama)?

That’s nice. What is he going to do about it?

If we had used the term ‘crucify’, I doubt the suck-up, one-sided, biased press would have allowed us to walk away from it. Must be nice to be the ‘teacher’s pet’...

Any oil company that has had the book thrown at them since these clowns came into office now has a great case to have the it all thrown out under the equal protection clause. Our Constitution was written to prevent exactly this, a government that decides to “make an example of you to teach everyone else a lesson.”

The question is what would your do about it, and could they do anything about it if they were the minority in the Senate, like the Republicans are?

Crucifixion is how the dictators used to keep the unwashed masses in line. “Sending a message” of what will happen to you if you do not do exactly as the government wants you to do.

Why would the White House take issue with the comments? They agree and it projects their worldview perfectly. Central management and radical environmentalism are foundational to progressives. Private corporations are the enemy. Exploitation of natural resources are bad. Government knows best. The pure unadulterated power of government regulation makes them important and wealthy.

Progressives will never celebrate the growth of industry outside their own selected technologies (green jobs). They will always view successful industry with disdain even as these businesses provide them with the wealth necessary to provide their false utopia to the downtrodden masses.

Progressives would never be able to build a successful nation. They don’t understand symbiosis. They inject themselves into a host nation and strangle the industrious as they gain power. They take over education, the media, and entertainment to gradually foist their own constitution on a trusting populace. Governmental bureaucrats can say things like this when their are more citizens who believe in progressive ideas or ignorantly trust government than those who enjoy individual freedom.

I get a kick out of all these pussyfied politicians, making all this noise about what these unelected bureaucrats are doing to all of us. ANY TIME & EVERYTIME we complain about these unelected bureaucrats and what they are doing to us, all we hear is “harunph” and all kinds of “BLATHER” about what they will do, But they do absolutely nothing about these unelected bureaucrats. They are the only ones that can do something about these bureaucrats. When we suggest that they get rid of these bureaucrats, we are given all kinds of reasons why they are a necessary agency. We need poiliticians that are not afraid to get rid of at least 3/4 of all these unelected bureaucrats.
