Newt Gingrich says he's dropping out 'about' May 2 and endorsing Romney [VIDEO]
Daily Caller ^ | 4/29/2012 | Nicholas Ballasy

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich told The Daily Caller in a video interview that he is dropping out of the Republican presidential race 'probably about Wednesday' May 2 and endorsing former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney.

Gingrich, alongside his wife Callista, said the GOP's message in the general election should be, "Can you afford four more years like this? Not complicated. Do you want this much unemployment, this high a gasoline price, this much deficit spending? You have a great president but if you don't want this, you better vote for somebody new."

She's gotta do what she's gotta do -- she's a politician and her viability depends on that. I understand that.

You realize of course that this is precisely the argument that people make to excuse Romney's taking liberal positions in uber leftist Massachusetts. That he's gotta do what he's gotta do to stay political viable in a deep blue state.

Yeah!!

Maybe not this time, who knows, maybe if enough regular people keep making noise -- and we FReepers do know how to make noise -- then somebody will notice for next time.

> ...a rebellion which is so sorely needed and we are begging for

We have to keep the pressure up any way can! IMO, voting for Mittens is working against the rebellion.

My daughter just turned 18 last year, and this is her first election. What a shame the choices are so poor...

I understand staying in the race, I understand getting out of the race, but I don’t understand announcing a date that you will stay in the race until.

Trey Gowdy is my rep and I helped put him there. He faces very significent opposition in his next Republican primary. And the Dems will be able to vote against him in our open primary system here. The going is not going to be easy but we’re still standing.

So far, the GOPe has successfully executed their plan: Place still-unknown obstacles in SP’s path to deter her run and to splinter the conservative vote. Next time, conservatives have to pick one candidate EARLY in the primary season.

But, Rita, the game is still on...

Sound rational post imo, I'll probably do the same here if the situation warrants such a position.

We can't do write ins here but I might go third party...all depends on what the circumstances are when the time comes.

Grrrr, I still can't believe the mess we're in, damn it all!

Yeah, that's true. The difference I see is that endorsements are words. Signings of laws are deeds. Her deeds as Alaska's executuve were worthy.

I don't believe she's going to campaign so much on the idea that Romney is the best thing since sliced bread, but rather that "we must get Obama out of office". There's an important distinction there.

I'll cut her slack, so far. We'll see what she does.

Very good point. Reminds me of some anti-war activists who asked, “Is it okay to support a war now that Obama is the president?”

As much as I'd like to vote for a Conservative candidate in November, I can't imagine a scenario where anyone other than Romney or Obama will be President in 2013. I would love to be proved wrong, but that's what we're going to have to work with in November.

Except for prayer, I'm out of answers.

Probably she will. But let’s wait to see how she actually handles it before lumping her in the same bag as the others.

Yes, you are correct. That is precisely what I think she is likely to do, and I agree with her.

As a Bachmann supporter-turned Santorum supporter, I was reluctant at first to join the Romney camp.

Now, I'm quite comfortable. Yes, he has some history that makes me cringe, but he also has a good understanding of economics and the vital importance of not putting our precious Military into the (rhetorical) wood chipper.

Unless I run, there will never be a candidate with whom I completely agree.

However, the prospect of four years of an Obama who feels "flexible" to say things to the Russian president that he feels we Americans don't need to know?

Romney will at least be better than Obama/Clinton (as an aside, I'm bravely predicting that the plan is for Biden to fake an illness, and Hillary will "reluctantly" step in as Obama Veep.)

I’m for Newt until he officially drops out then I’m against Romney until he’s officially the nominee, then I’ll be faced with an unplesant and odious descision.
