Mitt Romney, evangelicals seek marriage of convenience
The State ^ | Apr. 30, 2012 | David Lightman

Mitt Romney and the Republican Party's sizable bloc of evangelical voters are about to engage in a marriage of political convenience.

The presumptive GOP presidential nominee's march to the nomination proceeded largely without strong backing from the conservative Christian community.

But with Romney now the only hope that conservatives have to beat President Barack Obama in November, a partnership has begun to jell.

Gary Rose, the chairman of the politics and government department at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, Conn., agreed. "Santorum was their guy, but more important is their agenda of dislodging Obama," he said. "I don't believe they'll stay home."

Go right ahead and pull your state for Obama.

When did electing a president ever become worship?

I think when Mitt Romney takes his eraser to the Obama EO’s in January, a lot like you will be eating crow about your doom and gloom

You apparently live in fantasyland and like to dream skittle-pooping unicorns. My feet are planted in the real world and not given to wishful thinking based on nothing but hyperbole

Romney's own record proves that not one jot, not one tittle of what Obama has done, gets reversed. But that's immaterial anyway - Romney is not going to win the election against Obama. That's fact as far as I'm concerned.

And if by some miracle against all the mind boggling corruption coming in this election in November, that the Socialist from MA becomes President Elect, it will not change either a jot nor a tittle from the direction this culture heads the Republic, or God's judgment on this nation that has gone moreso far astray than even Ancient Israel went.

Why not take your jots and tittles back to the bible and figure out how your November vote isn’t an act of worship. By that time all there will be left in any practical sense is naked choice between two sinners. The time to prepare was months, years ago.

You are simply trying to soothe your own conscience from the consequences of what you propose. Why not just confess that you’re thinking that if America is going to have evil, why not get the most evil and get it done as soon as possible.

Many like you talk the double argument, first asserting that you can prove from Mitt’s record that all the stuff about tossing a monkey wrench in Obamacare is all smoke, then heading off any attempt to scrutinize that claim by claiming it’s immaterial. I find this quite intellectually dishonest.

Politics isn’t salvation. Votes are not prayers to God. Without the equivalent of a Great Awakening occurring again in the nation’s private worship life, America WILL get served up mediocre stuff.

On this we agree in total. AMEN!!!!

Get busy. We have a Great Awakening to ignite.

Because without it, forget it - we have no hope of surviving what leads us to absolute ruin. Time to do II Chronicles 7:14

None of that includes who we vote for, but Conservatism is supposed to be a way of life, a worldview built on our foundations. Compromising those foundations lead us to where we are right now.... on the precipice of disaster and utter ruination.

The Constitution Party acknowledges G-d as Creator in their party platform...that seals it for me. The rest of you want to vote for Romney?

Go for it. I'm sure you'll be forgiven. /s

Everybody knows what the dials and levers do. You will not gain any grace from God by helping pull a second (and much worse) helping of Obama on America.

I’m sure YOU will be forgiven for your error in pulling more Obama on the US. But you won’t be excused from the consequences.

That would be wishful thinking on your part, perhaps some bizarre form of projection.

Evil is evil. There is no grading system of sin with God. I suppose if you wanted to toss in Abomination in there you could - and both Romney and Obama share the distinction of supporting and promoting such. I've repented of compromising with evil for expedience's sake, because the fruits prove, it's still evil as far as God, our Principles and Foundations are concerned.

“The war being waged by Obama AND the GOP Ruling Class is to EXTERMINATE Conservatives from any political relevance.”

Precisely.

“Vote Goode, Constitution Party. Clearly a conservative.”

You’ve talked me into it, and I am going to borrow your tagline in due course!

I am sure you are familiar with the last verses of Romans 1...then you read this:

'The Constitution Party gratefully acknowledges the blessing of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ as Creator, Preserver and Ruler of the Universe and of these United States. We hereby appeal to Him for mercy, aid, comfort, guidance and the protection of His Providence as we work to restore and preserve these United States.'

I'm voting for Goode.

It’s a trap. One too many of you are willing to play out of fear. And the enemy has you right where he wants you.

And then they will blame us for Romney's loss. Romney loses because he doesn't provide a contrast with Obama. Santorum was exactly right about that. Santorum made mistakes in campaign discipline, but he was exactly right about that.

Obama just has to say, "You did that too." to everything Romney brings up.

ObamaCare -- You did that too.

Abortion -- You did that too

Big Government -- You did that too.

Taxes -- You did that too.

Global Warming -- You did that too.

Gay Marriage -- You did that even more than I have.

etc.

etc.

It’s on loan to all who want it. :>)

The message about this election, Ps 144, is that there is no choice unless one factors in Goode.

Good catch...even Zero hasn't embraced 'gay marriage' the same way Milt has...

You will not gain any grace from God by helping pull a second (and much worse) helping of Obama on America.

I do not buy the accusation or accept any responsibility for what the Ruling Class has done to box frightened Republicans into thinking they have to vote for Romney to save their skins from Obama. Which is why those like you accuse those of us who stand on principle by voting for a Conservative in November, with handing Obama the election.

We do not accept the charge, or the premise of the charge.

As far as Grace from God, nothing we do earns that. We are held accountable and will be judged on what we say, do and think.

Knowing that God views sin as He does, and that scripture says God hates those who lie and sow discord among brethren (Obama and Romney both), I will be able to give account of what I do this November with knowing I stood on principles that earn me no condemnation from the Father.

I will work out my own salvation with fear and trembling over God's Word, I will not act out of fear of Obama and the people who want him to be their king and vote for a man with nearly the same ideology and public record as Obama.

I tend to agree with OCC. I think Romney will win. The police state that has been carefully and incrementally constructed by both paties and all presidents during the last four administrations has yet to be fully implemented. Romney will be the one to throw the switch and light it up.

Obama would have been resisted, but all the Quisling “conservatives” will support a Republican authoritarian state. The move from Obama to Romney will be similar to a change from Nero to Diocletian. The oppressions from Washington D.C. will be more thorough, consistent and effective. It will delay the collapse of the Washington government.

“Can Satan cast out Satan?”

No, but he has certainly set up a ‘heads I win, tails you lose” scenario in the November Democratic primary.
