Philia and phobia refer to feelings, love or fear/hate.
In this case, sexual attraction to pre-pubescent children. One who never acts on those attractions and abuses a child is still nevertheless a pedophile.
The term pedophile has become in the public mind more or less equivalent to "child molester." They are, however, different concepts.
Amazing. On one hand liberals condemn priests and the Catholic church for pedophilia, and on the other hand ...well, we’ve now got “good” pedophiles.
Which is it? I’m thoroughly confused.
Pedophilia, as such, is neither a crime nor a sin. One cannot choose ones attractions or feelings, not in any absolute sense.
One can choose whether to dwell on and reinforce those feelings or attraction, and of course one absolutely can decide whether or not to act on them.
If I were attracted to young children, which thank God I am not, I would cheerfully cut my own throat if that were the only way to stop myself from hurting a child.

I think I figured it out...some pedophiles are dead and in hell.
Pedophiles are sociopaths that perpetrate the soul killing of little children and call it love. If we cannot safeguard our children, we have no future. And that is the aim of the pedophile played in full. It’s just a slower killing.
I see your point, but I don’t really agree. I also doubt that Savage was using the term in the medical way you did.
I’ve read numerous times that “active” pedophiles are basically incurable and unstoppable. It would be interesting to know how many “inactive” pedophiles there are. I would assume the number is very small, considering the huge numbers of children molested. So the “good” pedophiles are tiny in number (my assumption), and Savage is merely greasing the wheels for the normalization of sex with children.
Why anyone would turn to Dan Savage for his opinion on anything is one of the great mysteries of the universe.
It should be mentioned that savage made the anti-Bible comments to an assembly of high school kids that was supposed to be about “Bullying”. many kids walked out.

That would be kind of a useless definition wouldn’t it? A pedophile is the label we place on the criminals who actually have some kind of sexual interaction with children. The crime is in the action.
Perhaps he is trying to make viewing child pornography morally acceptable.
God help us.
