PARIS (AP) -- The graves of several Muslim soldiers in a cemetery in southeastern France were desecrated over the weekend, officials said Monday. The French president called the act "a slur" on the country's history.

Can only find one instance on Google of this happening to the graves of American heroes buried in France, though I’d swear there were more. The French response? Deny, deny, deny. Yet when there is even a hint it’s happened to muslims, they grovel.

French Muslim troops also fought in Vietnam.
During the Algerian War, more than 250,000 Algerians, Harkis, fought for France. Shamefully, after the war, France abandoned most of the Harkis, who were then killed by the FLN.
This combat veteran served in World War II, Vietnam and Algeria and was awarded the Cross of Military Valor, the equivalent of the Bronze Star.

Aaargh!!!!! Unfortunately I can't come up with any good reason why that isn't a good idea.
Maybe the Mormon Freepers (and yes, there are some) need to be publicly advocating the baptism of dead ancestors of whatever number of Mormon converts they have made out of Islam. National and international media attention, plus terrorist threats, can be assumed the first time someone who is a descendant of Mohammed conducts a Mormon baptism for him.
I have virtually no patience with Mormon doctrine, but I'll freely grant their zeal for promoting their religion. Maybe some have enough courage to take their beliefs seriously and advocate baptizing dead Muslims.
I suspect there are Mormon Freepers who will read this and explain to me either 1) why this is a good idea and is already happening quietly, or 2) why this would be contrary to Mormon theology.
I was not aware of the history of the Free French in North Africa being largely Muslim, but I can understand that given history in that area.
There is also a long history of liberal Muslims fighting on behalf of Western powers against totalitarian regimes. I don't think it's possible for a faithful conservative Muslim to give his full support to a secular or historically Judeo-Christian government in the western model, but fortunately not all Muslims are consistent or faithful to the Koran.
Liberalism is dangerous and corrosive to theology. We've seen that in Christian circles. Maybe it's not a bad idea to promote liberal theology in Muslim circles.

I think the point has been effectively made that the North African tribal Muslim warriors were effective fighters on the side of the Allies in World War II, though guilty of serious war crimes at Monte Cassino and elsewhere.

While the French suffered heavy casualties in the Tunisian campaign, they recouped some of the military glory they had forfeited in 1940. The goumiers acquired a reputation for sheer ferocity in combat and gained the notice of high-ranking British and American officers. The flamboyant Lt. Gen. George S. Patton, who had previously met Guillaume (himself no shrinking violet), declared that the goum commander was “worth three divisions.” Patton, a Francophile since World War I, wanted a token French force assigned to his 7th Army for the Sicilian invasion, and asked for the independent 4th Tabor, which had performed so well at Bizerte. General Henri Giraud, the de facto Free French leader, was delighted to oblige.
On July 14, 1943, the 4th Tabor of Moroccan goums, fifty-eight Frenchmen and 678 Berbers, landed at Licata, Sicily, with 117 horses and 126 mules. Their Tunisian experience set the pattern for the goumiers in Sicily. Taking positions in the mountains to protect the flanks of three U.S. divisions in succession, they fought their way across the most difficult terrain on the island, taking heavy fire from Italian automatic weapons and German artillery. In one horrendous instance of friendly fire, Royal Air Force Spitfires strafed them relentlessly.
In spite of this punishment, they advanced along the ridgelines day after day with determination, steadily flushing out the enemy with bayonet and knife and taking many badly frightened prisoners who had already heard horror stories about the ferocious goumiers.
