Britain falls foul of Brussels over immigration

Brussels is threatening to sue the UK unless it removes illegal curbs on the rights of EU citizens to use the National Health Service and bring their non-EU family members to Britain without a visa.

The European Commission’s ultimatum gives ministers two months to comply with the EU rules or face court, setting the stage for a legal battle with Britain over several highly charged immigration issues.

On Thursday night Theresa May, home secretary, vowed to fight the Brussels ruling so that ministers can protect rules designed to stop the “abuse” of an EU directive that underpins the single market for labor.

Talks over Britain’s allegedly lax implementation of the “free movement directive” have stretched over two years and the vast majority of about 80 alleged breaches are now resolved. …

The most controversial issue relates to the right of EU citizens to settle visa-free with their close family members in Britain, even when their spouse or dependents does not have an EU passport.

British officials apply stricter requirements and insist on visa applications because they are not convinced resident cards from other EU countries are secure.

Brussels is also calling for controls to be relaxed to allow extended family members of EU citizens to apply for residence in the UK, even when their EU family member lives outside Britain. This would entitle, for instance, an Afghan national in London to apply for residence in Britain on the basis of their Italian brother living in Rome.

The EU Commission put out a press release on this act of aggression against the UK—I'd call it an act of war myself. Right when France and Germany are agreeing to reverse much of the Schengen Agreement and reinstitute tighter border controls for themselves, the EU attacks Britain over this backdoor Schengen that nobody agreed to but had forced on them by the EU Politburo.

The Brits were nuts to join this idiotic union.

Nothing good will ever come of the EU, only bad, then worse, then war....yup, I’m actually predicting a European war within a decade.

Europe has always staggered from war to war.... an absurd union won’t change that.

The EU is just another ill-conceived progressive disaster.

The EU’s cheerleaders always talk it up as a “peace project”, but the elites that run it are among some of the biggest war hawks around, and are pushing hard for “common defense” because they want to be a “third power” so badly. You’re right—nothing good will come of it, especially with their totalitarian and dictatorial outlook.

Should the court rule in the European Commission’s favor, how do they propose to enforce it?

Invade the UK and shut down passport control?

Plenty of the EU’s useful idiots in the UK that will bend over backwards to enforce any “directive” that the Brussels Politburo puts out; Brussels won’t have to lift a finger. Of course, the big continental powers get to flout any of the rules that are made up for others.

"Right when France and Germany are agreeing to reverse much of the Schengen Agreement "

EU Commissars will have a full plate. Denmark has already set up border checkpoints. Greece and Italy are overrun with Romanian Gypsies. France kicks vagrants into UK.

You really get to see who rules the EU by what (and who) their Politburo overlooks and who they go after.

To paraphrase Stalin: “How many Divisions does the EU have?”

Stalin needed US help to overcome Hitler, especially after purging many of his best generals. Bluster’s no substitute for experience.
