Coulter: Romney doing the job Republican establishment won't
St Augustine Record ^ | April 30th | Ann Coulter

Posted on 05/01/2012 7:26:33 PM PDT by Halfmanhalfamazing

The actual Republican Establishment — political consultants, The Wall Street Journal, corporate America, former Bush advisers and television pundits — are exhorting Mitt Romney to flip-flop on his very non-Establishment position on illegal immigration.

Both as governor of Massachusetts and as a presidential candidate, Romney has supported a fence on the border, E-Verify to ensure that employees are legal and allowing state police to arrest illegal aliens. He is the rare Republican who recognizes that in-state tuition, driver’s licenses and amnesty are magnets for more illegal immigration.

Romney was for GWB/Pelosi/McCain amnesty in 2007.

Watch him closely because Hispanics can play a huge role in a POTUS election and if Romney starts flipping on immigration before the election Coulter will never live it down.

That is the risk of supporting a Romney.

What’s hysterical about pointing at Romney’s own record?

The site has obviously been taken over by 3rd party types, as well as anti mormon haters. They don’t care about Romneys real record, or his platform, they just ignore it, so they can revel in their hate. Unreal, and the worst part is its coming from the top, and its killing the site. Have you noticed how few post replies there are anymore? Everyone seems to be hiding so they don’t get banned for voting against Obama. It won’t matter pretty soon anyway, cause they aren’t giving any money either. I hope Jimrob has a change of heart, or this site will be gone by election time. Sad

They don’t care about Romneys real record ...

You have it exactly backwards, FRiend. It's the Republicans so reluctantly ready to support Romney who can't care about his real record.

My theory is that she’s angling for the title of Mrs. Ann Romney II, once Mittens can legalize polygamy like he did gay marriage.

How do you make it work that the same anti-Romney people are pro-Mia Love?

You know she’s a Mormon, right?

Perhaps they're more concerned with Obama's real record?

The governor cannot do anything about sanctuary cities unless the state legislature invokes penalties. We have sanctuary cities in VA. My grassroots group has been trying to get legislation passed similar to what is in AZ 1070 to cut off state assistance to such cities and go after city officials who issue policies or regulations that prevent police from inquiring about immigration status.

Here's a list of some sanctuary cities and counties.

I remember when AC was the darling temptress of FR.

Whatever...we find ourselves in a disillusioned conundrum of dissociated disbelief. Like most here, I find Romney despicable. Deja vu 2008, here we go again. Like many, I despised McCain. But with Sarah on the ticket, I had to only hold one nostril.

Romney needs Christie to make this work. Rubio, by all appearances, is a good man, but he is not qualified based on the natural citizen clause. Sorry. But with Christie, I can hold one nostril to vote for Romney.

Romney is the choice of the GOP E. We don’t have an alternative. If we have any chance of defeating Obama, then Romney needs to pick Christie, and we need to all get on board, in spite of ourselves. As deplorable as it seems, what is our alternative, at this juncture?

Look at the post right above yours, then get back to me ok. Romney didn’t legalize gay marriage any more than Nixon legalized abortion, and if anyone truly thinks he did they should learn about the power of the courts over the governor. As I posted on an earlier thread which was ignored by all http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2878708/posts?page=13#13 You and others have posted that Romney favors gay marriage, but when I search I find this:

from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Governorship_of_Mitt_Romney#Same-sex_marriage

Same-sex marriage
For more details on this topic, see Same-sex marriage in Massachusetts.

When he ran for governor in 2002, Romney declared his opposition to same-sex marriage.[71] “Call me old fashioned, but I don’t support gay marriage nor do I support civil union,” said Romney in an October 2002 gubernatorial debate. He also voiced support for basic domestic partnership benefits for gay couples. Romney won the endorsement of the Log Cabin Club of Massachusetts, a Republican gay-rights group, who in 2005 accused him of reneging on his 2002 campaign commitment to support some benefits for gay couples.[72] He also opposed an amendment, then before the General Court, that would have banned same-sex marriage and outlawed all domestic partnership benefits for gay couples. When campaigning in 2002, Romney’s stated position was that “All citizens deserve equal rights, regardless of their sexual orientation. While he does not support gay marriage, Mitt Romney believes domestic partnership status should be recognized in a way that includes the potential for health benefits and rights of survivorship.”[73]

Romney strongly opposed same-sex marriage during his governorship. He emphasized his desire to “protect the institution of marriage” while denouncing discrimination against gays and lesbians. “Like me, the great majority of Americans wish both to preserve the traditional definition of marriage and to oppose bias and intolerance directed towards gays and lesbians,” Romney said in 2004.[74]

On June 2, 2006, Romney sent a letter to each member of the U.S. Senate urging them to vote in favor of the Marriage Protection Amendment.[75] In the letter, Romney stated that the debate over same-sex unions is not a discussion about “tolerance”, but rather a “debate about the purpose of the institution of marriage”. Romney wrote, “Attaching the word marriage to the association of same-sex individuals mistakenly presumes that marriage is principally a matter of adult benefits and adult rights. In fact, marriage is principally about the nurturing and development of children. And the successful development of children is critical to the preservation and success of our nation.”

Romney’s letter was his second effort to persuade the U.S. Senate to pass the Defense of Marriage Amendment. On June 22, 2004 he testified before the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee, urging its members to protect the definition of marriage. “Marriage is not an evolving paradigm,” said Romney, “but is a fundamental and universal social institution that bears a real and substantial relation to the public health, safety, morals, and general welfare of all of the people of Massachusetts.”[76]

Romney attempted to block implementation of the decision of the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court that legalized same-sex marriage in 2003. Romney criticized the decision as harming the rights of children:

Now do you have some legitimate source that says otherwise, or is this the real story?

As you can see Romney has always been against gay marriage, and if you look on the same page, you will see he has always been against amnesty and illegals. Now the fact that that info is easily available to find, and everyone chooses to ignore it, tells me there is something else going on. Now as I said, I am signing out, you guys can laugh at me, zot me whatever, but it won’t change the truth, goodby

“I have a choice. No freaking lying liberals ever get my vote.”

Then your non vote will be a vote for Obama. Like it or not, accept it or not, this is what we are down to. Hey, I don’t like it either. But no way will I allow the communist to have another term.

——————You and others have posted that Romney favors gay marriage-———————

I did?

Where have I posted that?

I could’ve swore that I posted something to you about a Mormon named Mia Love.

Are you really that tied to smearing anybody who disagrees with Romney as anti-mormon to the point that you’ll blatantly ignore the fact that these same “anti-mormon” people are swooning over a *gasp* Mormon?

Is Mitt Romney The Father of Gay Marriage? Twenty-Four Reasons Why He Is

When the Massachusetts Supreme Court issued a decision in favor of homosexual marriage, — the Goodridge case — Romney unilaterally ordered his state agencies to implement homosexual marriage in Massachusetts. The court did not order him to do this nor had the legislature codified this ruling.

Same-sex “marriage” is still NOT legal in Massachusetts, and was NOT created by the Supreme Judicial Court’s Goodridge ruling.

In fact, it was Governor Mitt Romney who was ultimately responsible for same-sex “marriages” taking place. The Supreme Judicial Court only issued an opinion and advised the Legislature to act (which it never did). Even the Court acknowledged that it had no power to change the law.

Governor Romney created these “marriages” through an unconstitutional and illegal directive to his Department of Public Health (to print new “marriage” licenses), and through his legal counsel threatened to fire any Town Clerk or Justice of the Peace who failed to implement the (non-existent) “new law”. He was not required by any constitutional mandate to do these things. On the contrary, his actions clearly violated his oath to uphold the laws of Massachusetts.
