Obama tops Romney by 8 in VA (PPP Poll)
Public Policy Polling ^ | May 1, 2012 | Staff

Posted on 05/02/2012 5:31:33 AM PDT by C19fan

Barack Obama won Virginia by six points in 2008, and if he were up against his almost-certain 2012 opponent Mitt Romney today, he would win it again by a similar margin. If Romney hopes to close that gap, the state’s governor Bob McDonnell would not help, and there is no question that one potential running mate would hurt: Eric Cantor. The Constitution Party candidacy of the state’s former congressman Virgil Goode could also draw votes away from Romney, to Obama’s advantage. Obama tops Romney by eight points, 51-43, up from a six-point (48-42) lead when PPP last polled the state last Demember. These results come among an electorate that reports voting for Obama by only four points over John McCain four years ago.

PPP disclaimer. But lets look at reality. Obama has been the best thing to happen to the DC metro area since Congress decided to put the capital in that area. DC metro is now the highest earning metro area overtaking San Jose. A large number of the wealthiest counties in the US are in NoVa. If you were an alien and dropped in on NoVa you would notice tons of construction going on and there would be no signs of stagnant economic times.

PPP is a Democrat polling outfit so adjust those numbers by 10 to 15 points.

Obama will not win Virginia or North Carolina. As a matter of fact this thing could be a landslide for the GOP.

CORRECTION: it should be called the Public Policy PUSH Poll as this is what they want the public to believe. here is no basis for this kind of support regardless of the amount of make-work jobs that Obama fictitious lay creates for the short term. A can of dog food can beat him in an election right now and I am telling you he is a landslide loser in November.

The GOP has been doing very well in Fairfax County since 2008. If the GOP can minimize the damage in Fairfax, 0bama does not stand a chance in VA.

Romney drops to 51-38 when the poll includes Virgil Goode. It’s likely he has even worse numbers in PA, OH, IA and MI.

So why again was he considered to be electable? He needs to win states like VA and NC, and he’s down in both of them.

At this point it looks unlikely that Romney will do as well as McCain.

GOP swept last night in some local elections.

I don’t see Obama repeating his last trick.

Romney has to STAY ON MESSAGE. The biggest problem with the GOP is that they LET the media carry the distractions the DNC wants.

What is the matter with us Americans? Three years ago, we (as a country) decided to see what it would be like to bang our head on the wall. Now, Today, after 3 1/2 years of CONSTANT banging our collective (sic) heads against our collective (sic!) walls, we are deciding, by 8 percentage points, to continue banging our collective (yep, dittoes) heads against our walls?

One of the founders was exactly right when he said - a republic can be sustained only while there is virtue in its populace.

Doesn’t surprise me. A lot of blacks in VA and a lot of limosine liberals in Northern Virginia. If the bible beaters stay home, which it looks like they might and I reside in that part of the state, Obama could win VA big.

This is a BAROMETER.

Romney, the RINO choice of the DNC, cannot win.

Which is why Obama, Soros, Kerry, Clinton, and Carter
all LOVE/WANT Mitt Romney.

And the GOPe has given them and the MSM what they want.

Much different demograqphics in VA than in PA, OH, and IA. IA is one of the whitest states in the coutry and a much smaller ratio of bible beaters in PA and OH. Romney could easily win PA, OH, and IA, yet lose VA. Romney being a New England liberal Mormon changes the electoral red/blue map.

Rasmussen: Wednesday, April 25, 2012 -- Virginia: Romney 45%, Obama 44%.

Since re-election is a referendum on the incumbent, conservatively, 2/3 of the "undecideds" should break for the challenger. (Morris says "all" the undecideds should vote against if the tide is turned against an incumbent -- but I'm not that optimistic.)

Winning 1/3 of the Virginia undecideds would give Obama 47.66%. McCain won 46.4% of the Virginia vote in 2008, so he could do slightly better than that.

Romney drops to 51-38 when the poll includes Virgil Goode

So Goode is already pulling 5%, though 62% in the state have no clue as to who he is. Not a bad start. A double-digit showing in November by Virgil will be a good building block.

He *might* win both.Lots and lots of *very* well paid and *very* loyal government "workers" live in VA and lots of "progressives" have moved to the Raleigh-Durham area from NY,NJ,MA,VT,etc.

As a matter of fact this thing could be a landslide for the GOP.

WRONG...WRONG...WRONG!

Osama *is* beatable but only by a slim margin and *only* if we play our hand perfectly.

You’re right, he does change the electoral map. If he’s down 13 to Obama in VA - he’ll be down 15+ in PA, MI, MN, WI, and CO; down 10+ in IA, OH, and NV, and probably down 5 in IN and FL, and MO. SC and GA go to tossup.

Romney as the nominee gives the GOP zero advantage in the NE while opening up the entire south to Obama.

Perhaps so. People are having a hard time understanding just how non-viable Romney is. As the weakest of all the choices, the GOP couldn't have made a worse move than to choose him to go forward. He trails in nearly every so-called "swing state."

In short, Romney has no base, no core values, no sure positions on anything... as such, he has no shot. None.

There are 8 or so key states that will determine the winner in Nov. Those include, NC,OH,VA, PA, FL, MI, WI, IA, MO. As the conventions come into focus I expect we’ll start seeing more polling data from them.

NC SurveyUSA 4/26 - 4/30 1636 RV 47 43 Obama +4

FL Rasmussen 4/27 Obama 45, Romney 46 Romney +1

VA Rasmussen 4/25 Obama 44, Romney 45 Romney +1

4/20
OH FOX News Obama 45, Romney 39 Obama +6

OH Rasmussen Obama 46, Romney 42 Obama +4

Been warning people for quite some time. It’s really very simple. Romney is strong where Obama is strong and weak where Obama is weak. Obama as the incumbant is stronger than Romney. When you have a candidate who is stronger than another almost everywhere in the nation, that leads to landslides.

“In short, Romney has no base, no core values, no sure positions on anything... as such, he has no shot. None.”

Exactly so, and with a politically relevant third party Constitution candidate, he’s doomed.

Further south on 95 there are signs welcoming you to Virginia at rest areas. Obviously, the areas north of them are not “real” Virginia.

I’ve only been here eight years but there are definitely two different Virginias - the “urbane” establishments in Charlottesville, Tidewater, Richmond, and Northern Virginia, and then the rest of it.

SO what that’s telling me is that VA is Romney’s strongest state, and he’s down by 13 when Goode is included. This election is over, since he’s down double digits in every single ‘swing state’.

I would love to see GA and SC polling, as well as the KY numbers.
