Mitt Romney may be the presumptive GOP nominee, but Rep. Ron Paul of Texas is quietly racking up some organizational victories that could complicate Mr. Romney’s coronation at the Republican Convention in Tampa, Fla.
Exploiting party rules, loyalists for the congressman from Texas in recent days have engineered post-primary organizing coups in states such as Louisiana and Alaska, confirming what party regulars say would be an effort to grab an outsized role in the convention and the party’s platform deliberations.
In Massachusetts, Paul loyalists over the weekend helped block more than half of Mr. Romney’s preferred nominees from being named delegates at state party caucuses — even though Mr. Romney won his home state’s primary with 72 percent of the vote. Many state GOP establishment figures, including longtime state Republican National Committee member Ron Kaufman, won’t be going to Tampa in August as official delegates.
Paul, “is doing more with less than any modern presidential campaign in recent memory,” said Doug Wead, a Paul campaign adviser. “More surprises coming,” Mr. Wead blogged this week. “It means that Ron Paul will be a factor in Tampa.”
In DeKalb County, Ga., Gingrich won the state’s March 6 primary, but the selection of delegates to the national convention takes place in subsequent party caucuses. So Paul loyalists can run for delegate slots ostensibly as supporters of Mr. Gingrich or another candidate.
In Alaska — where Mr. Paul came in third in the primary — his supporters organized to elect two Paul loyalists as chairman and co-chairman of the state party, beating out candidates backed by the Alaska GOP establishment.
In Alaska, tea-party-backed 2010 GOP Senate candidate Joe Miller and wife Kathleen struck an apparent alliance with Mr. Paul’s team, and she won election March 27 as a delegate to the Tampa convention.

Excellent news, paul maybe a little nutty, but if he is giving the GOPe fits then I say more power to him. Plus alot of his followers are Tea Party like people that want smaller government and less spending.

Maybe he is attempting to force Mitt to pick his son for the VP slot. It would not be a bad move if it happened. Imagine the voice Paul will have in Tampa if he is able to hijack 20% to 40% of Romney’s delegates.
If only Newt had been half as organized as Paul was before he decided to run. Then maybe we would be discussing a Gingrich vs the Muslim in Chief race instead.

Don’t count on it. Mitt Romney wants this so bad he can taste it. He’s been running for President for 4 years. He is hungry. He has the money. He has the organization. He has 6 million Mormon foot soldiers. The Mormon church has $$$$$...much dinero. He proved in the Primary Process that he will do what it takes to win. And, flipping the coin over, many people who voted for Obama wish they could take their vote back. And, they will do so on November 6, 2012. I loathe the Clintons, but Obama even makes Bill and Hill seem palatable. He is much despised. I could give you more reasons why I think Romney will win, but it would be too lengthy.

I wanted Michelle Bachman to win, she didn’t. I wanted Herman Cain to win he didn’t. I wanted Rick Santorum to win then he stuck his foot in his mouth many times and I decided I wasn’t a Rick Santorum guy. I would have gladly voted for him in the general. I used to love Gingrich but he has not aged well, he has become somewhat cantankerous. I have supposed that Newt was the brightest of the bunch but maybe Paul is the brightest after all. There is a lot to like about Paul, but, he would not be able to win the general election. He has said too many dumb sounding things, just like Santorum and Newt.
For Bachman, Santorum and Newt it has come time to support Romney and they are. The time for back biting and complaining is over. The Money RINO guy has it sewed up. Either Romney wins or Obama wins. I am not one of those people who jump out of everything just because MY guy didn’t make it.
This country cannot take another Obama presidency and expect to survive anything like what we know of it today.
When your cousin begged you as a young person to go on a blind date with someone who had a great personality, you didn’t tell them NO! You reluctantly said ok, then did the best you could to have a decent time. Sometimes you may have even been able to enjoy the date.
Reluctantly I will vote for Romney, it is too late to do anything else constructive. I intend to make the best of the date and try to enjoy it for the good of the country.
Is it possible that I don’t like a lot of what Romney has done in the past? You betcha. Is it possible I don’t like a lot of what Obama has done in the past?
Romney may not be good but he is not Obama. Obama has been the worst president this country has ever seen, much worse than the next closest competitor. I would vote for Carter, either Clinton, any Kennedy any Roosevelt or whom every you can think of over Obama. Romney is not as bad as Carter, Clinton or any of the others.I will not be excited about Romney but you can bet I will vote for Anybody But Obama.
For a Republican to win the presidency Moderates have to vote for a conservative or conservatives have to vote for a moderate. No matter how much you don’t like it is a simple fact of life, there simply are not enough conservatives to win an election, we need moderates to vote with us or we have to vote, like this time, with them.
Especially when he has done so much to completely jettison his conservative voting base? Pro-choice. Pro-gun control. Pro-government run health care...
