The first woman to command the Army's drill sergeant training took legal action Monday to reclaim her job, alleging she was improperly suspended last year because of sexism and racism and demanding that two of her superiors be investigated for abuse of their authority.

This “article” is another example of the stenographic journalism practiced by the Military Times publications.
Do a Google search on CSM King and you’ll find the reasons she was removed from her post. There are allegations of an improper relationship with a subordinate; she reportedly has a drinking problem and if that’s not enough, two of her college degrees (a master’s and a “Doctor of Divinity”) came from diploma mills.
As a retired military officer, I can tell you the bogus degrees alone are sufficient reason for her dismissal. She lied to her superiors, pure and simple. The allegations about her drinking and improper relationship speak volumes about her character—clearly, she doesn’t have the integrity you’d expect in a corporal, let alone a CSM.
If she’s being allowed to retire without non-judicial punishment or a courts-martial, CSM King is damned lucky. A lesser individual (I.e., someone from a non+protected class) would be facing serious punishment and possibly, the end of their career.
Of course, the MSM article makes no mention of CSM King’s “problems.” What a surprise. King’s defenders are casting her as a “victim” when she engineered her own fall from grace.
He produced Army evaluations that showed that up until then, King had excellent ratings throughout her career.
Yeah, try writing an bad NCOER about a minority. I was an E-9 over 20 years, and gave a few "Needs Some Improvement" remarks - with facts to back up the ratings - to minorities. I was the one that got chastised.
What loser with a major defective integrity. She shouldn’t be a drill sgt...she should be cleaning latrunes...at best. Expect more of this with the new affirmative action, equal opportunity, PC military.

Or a bad NCOER, period. Unless the individual in question is borderline dangerous due to utter stupidity, a “Needs Improvement” will get kicked back in no time flat, usually with an ass-chewing from the Senior Rater.
That says quite a bit there. She's an E-9, almost due for retirement, and she's never been deployed to a combat zone? WTF has she been doing for the past 11 years?
Active duty army officer here. Believe you me, we have certainly discussed this case at work. We (the senior NCOs and officers) find it amazing that somebody would be promoted to Sergeant Major with no deployments in her entire career.
I remember when I was in the Career Course there was a group of field grades who had a PCS schedule that was just out of sync with the deployment schedule to the point where after seven years of war, they hadn’t deployed.
I can’t imagine this lady was in a similar situation, not as an NCO with that many years in. No combat patch combined with diploma mills and an affair with a subordinate is pretty conclusive of a person with no honor or integrity.
She should take her retirement pay and thank everyone she can for not tossing her out on her worthless ass with nothing.
On full time AGR active duty in an ARNG unit, I used to help to churn out EERs/NCOERs along with the other full timers. (Hey, you can’t expect M-Day people to do that, can you?) You never saw such a bunch of cock and bull horsesheet in your life as I used to write. The truth about people was not acceptable to higher HQ. Our people had to practically walk on water.
When I was at a school at NGPEC in Arkansas, I was talking to a colleague from an MP unit in Missouri (I was Field Artillery). He said to me “I envy you. The two biggest problems that I have in my unit, you don’t have either one.”
When I asked him what those were he said “Women and N_____s”.

I was never late with and NCOER until the system went automated. I had one Hispanic guy who gained almost 15 lbs in one year and wrote him up as needing improvement. I was told to change that comment to success.
I also had a black guy who could do the max on push ups, run the two miles in 14.5 minutes and failed the sit ups two consecutive APFTs. Wrote him up as needing improvement and told to change the rating. I asked to be removed from the rating chain if I had to lie.
