Meet the First Obama Girlfriend
breitbart ^ | 5/2/12 | Ben Shapiro

It only took nearly six years for the media to begin vetting President Obama’s past.

Today, Vanity Fair released an excerpt from a new biography of Barack Obama by David Maraniss. The excerpt discusses Barack Obama's first love affair, with a white Australian woman named Genevieve Cook. It's a telling examination of who Obama was as a young man -- and it shows a self-absorbed "internationalist" with delusions of grandeur.

The book itself sounds like an ode to Obama. Maraniss writes, “At age 20, Obama was a man of the world … He could not be of one place, rooted and provincial.” No, says Maraniss, this was a broadminded young man who “knew the ways of different cultures better than he knew himself.”

When he first moved to New York, he was in the midst of an affair with Alexandra McNear, a girl from Occidental. They exchanged a series of purple letters with one another – turgid missives from overfevered young minds. Here, for example, is tendentious Obama explaining poetry to his young girlfriend:

I haven’t read “The Waste Land” for a year, and I never did bother to check all the footnotes. But I will hazard these statements—Eliot contains the same ecstatic vision which runs from Münzer to Yeats. However, he retains a grounding in the social reality/order of his time. Facing what he perceives as a choice between ecstatic chaos and lifeless mechanistic order, he accedes to maintaining a separation of asexual purity and brutal sexual reality. And he wears a stoical face before this. Read his essay on Tradition and the Individual Talent, as well as Four Quartets,

didn’t Maraniss write a book which fawned over Clinton?? I read his biography on Vince Lombardi- “When Pride Still Mattered”...good book but its length would’ve been cut in half, 500+ pages as it was, had he just told the story and left his opinion out of it...

I didn’t think it could be true, but if there is one thing that Zero is worse at than being president, it’s a literary critic.

What a pretentious, condescending little twerp.

I suspect he really did not believe what he was writing. However, I must admire him as a very gifted with prose as when it is all part of his “pick up” lines. He was good.

This is how he wrote to his girlfriend?

It reads like something Ignatius Reilly would write to Myrna.....

‘Turgid’ writing is generally an over-compensation for a ‘flaccid’ mind.

Yes, I've written many a torrid love letter filled with phrases like that. What a pantload....

Remember how I said there’s a certain kind of conservatism which I respect more than bourgeois liberalism—Eliot is of this type. Wf course, the dichotomy he maintains is reactionary, but it’s due to a deep fatalism, not ignorance.

I believe it is Whittaker Chambers who made note of the phenomenon among Communists to despise those we would describe as liberals more than they despise conservatives. His use of the word "reactionaries" is very revealing and all the more revealing in that he expresses the generally held belief among Communists that that attitude can be ascribed to "ignorance. " Hence, the capacity of man to be educated and the perfectibility of man-shibboleths of communist doctrine.

I do not agree with the author, the importance of the article is not in the girlfriends but it his inadvertent revelation of his own communism.

Re: just before the election; no doubt someone in the White House is currently working on forging his college grades...just in case.

Birth certificate, ss card, draft card, all likely forgeries already.

The MSM refuses to dig into this guy’s past...we only get to know about Republicans.

They have the same chin. In some parts of the world it is refered to as a “Gemmell” chin, as in the Scottish Gemmell clan.
