Bill Ayers spoke at the University of Oregon last week on the subject of teaching and organizing for “social justice.” His speech was not free of the radical sentiments he is well-known for espousing (especially in the company of America’s youth). Case in point: he spoke of the end of America, a new world, and what our role ought to be in all of it.
Almost as interesting as Ayers’ speech itself, perhaps, was how the leftist radical was introduced by the university students. One girl, who described herself as a doctoral student at the university, spoke of the privilege they would have with their honored guest, in an “evening [of] radical imagination.”
Two others, an associate professor at the university and a graduate student, remarked: “Most of us have in one way or another acknowledged the sovereign authority of the U.S. government– or the state of Oregon– in order to be here tonight, either admission to the university, applying for a job, or just paying the parking meter. We have not, however, asked permission of the [Native Americans] whose ancestral home this is, and to fail to acknowledge that this remains disputed territory would in effect be taking sides, [and] reinforce the erasure of indigenous history and indigenous peoples.”
When Ayers spoke, it was largely of how the “American Empire” is over, and what this means for her citizens (though there was a fair amount of “the wasteful American” theme throughout as well):
The great challenge for our generation [is] to find a way not just to live differently as individuals, but to find a way to think differently about what work means...

America's freedom is now like that frog in a pot of water. The heat is being turned up, but so slowly that no one notices. The frog dies without complaint. The freedoms go away without complaint.
Every year, there are slightly more takers, and slightly fewer producers.
Every year, there are slightly more people who feel entitled, and slightly fewer people who want to stand on their own two feet.
Every year, there are slightly more people who see themselves as a special-interest group (Spanish-Americans, etc.), and slightly fewer people who see themselves as just Americans.
Unless another Reagan appears (see my tagline) I fear this trend will be inevitable.

Well yeah, the left has spent most of its energy organizing over a long time. True, they produce attention grabbing chaos. But, the left is not filled with a lot of working, creative souls. The anti-left is. It's working. It's producing. I expect the anti-left can organize on a large scale in a very short time. Ordinarily, they don't come together, but go their individual way. Given a life threatening crises created by the left, I expect instant organization to rally to counter the threat.

One possibility is parenting: kids brought up without limits hate their fathers for what they become. That hatred is then projected everywhere.

Well, retailers around here can’t seem to keep 7.62 x 39 ammunition in stock, and I *know* there isn’t anywhere near that much target practice going on.
People aren’t stockpiling a few hundred rounds; they are laying in *thousands* of rounds.
I just wish I hadn’t lost all my guns in that terrible curling accident.
