Warren: I used minority listing to share heritage (lie coming unraveled)
Boston Herald ^ | 5/3/12 | Chabot

Posted on 05/03/2012 9:40:07 AM PDT by pabianice

...Warren’s statements come as genealogists at the New England Historic Genealogical Society were unable to back up earlier accounts that her great great great grandmother is Cherokee. While Warren’s great great great grandmother, named O.C. Sarah Smith, is listed on a electronic transcript of a 1894 marriage application as Cherokee, the genealogists are unable to find the actual record or a photograhic copy of it, Society spokesman Tom Champoux said. A copy of the marriage license itself has been located, but unlike the application, it does not list Smith’s ethnicity...

-------------------------------------------------------

Democratic Senate candidate Elizabeth Warren, fending off questions about whether she used her Native American heritage to advance her career, said today she enrolled herself as a minority in law school directories for nearly a decade because she hoped to meet other people with tribal roots.

“I listed myself in the directory in the hopes that it might mean that I would be invited to a luncheon, a group something that might happen with people who are like I am. Nothing like that ever happened, that was clearly not the use for it and so I stopped checking it off,” said Warren.

The Harvard Law professor argued she didn’t use her minority status to get her teaching jobs, and slammed her Republican rival U.S. Sen.Scott Brown for suggesting otherwise.

“The only one as I understand it who’s raising any question about whether or not I was qualified for my job is Scott Brown and I think I am qualified and frankly I’m a little shocked to hear anybody raise a question about whether or not I’m qualified to hold a job teaching,” she said, pushing to put Brown on defense. “What does he think it takes for a woman to be qualified?”

Warren is looking to shake off the story of her Native American background, which has hounded her since the Herald first reported that Harvard Law School has touted Warren as a minority hire. She also listed herself as a minority in a law school directory for nine years between 1986 and 1995.

“Being Native American has been part of my story I guess since the day I was born,” said Warren, who never mentioned her Native American heritage on the campaign trail even as she detailed much of her personal history to voters in speeches, statements and a video. “These are my family stories, I have lived in a family that has talked about Native American and talked about tribes since I was a little girl.”

Warren’s statements come as genealogists at the New England Historic Genealogical Society were unable to back up earlier accounts that her great great great grandmother is Cherokee. While Warren’s great great great grandmother, named O.C. Sarah Smith, is listed on a electronic transcript of a 1894 marriage application as Cherokee, the genealogists are unable to find the actual record or a photograhic copy of it, Society spokesman Tom Champoux said. A copy of the marriage license itself has been located, but unlike the application, it does not list Smith’s ethnicity.

Was she claiming the native Indian status to obtain a financial gain such a school grant for Indians, or make her eligible for other perks that go only to native Indians?

I understand that anyone who can prove them self 1/32nd Indian in one of the New England tribes will receive $50,000.

...if Warren was a conservative....

If a liberal Republican like Scott Brown had dared to try a stunt like this, the LSM would be cruxifying him.

Why is it, the people whom we are told to grant indulgence to are invariably raving, hair on fire, liberals? Like Clinton and his perjury, interns, whatever. Clinton actually told a group of Cherokees once, that he was 1/16 Cherokee, making him twice the imaginary Indian Liz ever was or imagined himself to be. Given Clinton's implausible paternity, at least half his heritage is up for grabs. The man named on his birth certificate was a GI who died in Italy, to whom Miss Kelley claimed she had been married, though Miss Kelley never filed for any government survivors benefits for herself or the little bastard.

Ah, but did she wrongly do so to help pay for her education?
Lots of loans and grants are available for that.

3% Cherokee. 100% Idiot.

For those of you wondering how she cashed in on this, over the years that she claimed to be an Indian, she moved from teaching at a mediocre college to eventually teaching at Harvard Law. Shortly thereafter, she dropped the charade.

So she’s a cheater.

On top of that, she’s an insufferable scold. She’s every man’s worst marital nightmare.

It's not definitive, but Warren says Cherokee. Are her ancestors on any of the key Cherokee rolls?

1817 Reservation Rolls
1817-1835 Emigration Rolls
1835 Henderson Roll
1848 Mullay Roll
1851 Siler Roll 1851 Old Settler Roll
1852 Drennen Roll
1852 Chapman Roll
1869 Swetland Roll
1883 Hester Roll
1898 Dawes Roll
1908 Churchill Roll
1909 Guion Miller West Roll
1909 Guion Miller East Roll
1924 Baker Roll

As I said, that's not definitive by any means.

Having been around the genealogy block a few times, and having filled out applications like a marriage license application myself, I know that applications for a license often ask for information that's not on the license. IIRC, my marriage license application required information on a negative result on a required gonorrhea test - but 'Gonorrhea Free!' doesn't appear on my marriage license.

If you fill out an application for a business license, there will be information on it that doesn't appear on the business license. Same for a building permit.

I'm not supporting Warren in any way; I'm just noting that there's a difference between the content of an application and the license.

Many folks have misrepresented themselves as mixed race, Indian, Aleutian, pacific Islander etc. for the sole purpose of getting various types of funding. One case I know of a person had a Japanese sounding name and was a Finlander. He received some serious funding because he x’d the right box.

Some applications now require picture ID copy. Not that this would have stopped this hamhock from claiming to be native American.

And how many better-qualified candidates over the years have been passed over for jobs/promotions in order for Warren to get these slot(s)?

It's good to see that some Republican opposition teams are finally showing a little backbone in calling libs out on their lies. Perhaps our community organizer-in-chief won't be far behind.
