Arlo Guthrie - City of New Orleans
The City of New Orleans by Steve Goodman Riding on the City of New Orleans, Illinois Central Monday morning rail Fifteen cars and fifteen restless riders, Three conductors and twenty-five sacks of mail. All along the southbound odyssey The train pulls out at Kankakee Rolls along past houses, farms and fields. Passin' trains that have no names, Freight yards full of old black men And the graveyards of the rusted automobiles. CHORUS: Good morning America how are you? Don't you know me I'm your native son, I'm the train they call The City of New Orleans, I'll be gone five hundred miles when the day is done. Dealin' card games with the old men in the club car. Penny a point ain't no one keepin' score. Pass the paper bag that holds the bottle Feel the wheels rumblin' 'neath the floor. And the sons of pullman porters And the sons of engineers Ride their father's magic carpets made of steel. Mothers with their babes asleep, Are rockin' to the gentle beat And the rhythm of the rails is all they feel. CHORUS Nighttime on The City of New Orleans, Changing cars in Memphis, Tennessee. Half way home, we'll be there by morning Through the Mississippi darkness Rolling down to the sea. And all the towns and people seem To fade into a bad dream And the steel rails still ain't heard the news. The conductor sings his song again, The passengers will please refrain This train's got the disappearing railroad blues. Good night, America, how are you? Don't you know me I'm your native son, I'm the train they call The City of New Orleans, I'll be gone five hundred miles when the day is done.

Good morning, Everyone.
Good morning to our

Military, our Allies, and their families.

Thank you, fatima, for preparing the Canteen for todays activities.
Welcome back. Hope you enjoyed your break.
I always have a hard time picking a fav.
Let's start with..."One is the Loneliest Number" and I'll work from there. LOL
Actually, I enjoy checking out the other choices.

The DC Metroland weather report
~ Today...Areas of fog in the morning.
Mostly cloudy with a slight chance of showers
and thunderstorms in the morning...
Then partly sunny with scattered showers
and thunderstorms in the afternoon.
Highs in the mid 80s.
South winds around 5 mph...
Becoming southwest in the afternoon.
Chance of rain 50 percent.
~ Tonight...Mostly cloudy.
Scattered showers and thunderstorms...
Mainly in the evening.
Lows in the mid 60s. Northwest winds around 5 mph.
Chance of rain 50 percent.

We have had a hot and rainy week.
Looking forward to some sunshine.
Rumor has it that we'll be back to spring-like weather next week. YES!

Gotta run and make my rounds before others show up and want something.
Please stay right where you are.
Don't leave the room...I'll be bock!
Remember, the Canteen is

Come in and sit for a while.
There's always plenty of coffee, tea
pancakes, conversation, silliness,
and plain old BS

REMEMBER THEM - DEFENDERS OF FREEDOM
FR CANTEEN MISSION STATEMENT Showing support and boosting the morale of our military and our allied military and the family members of the above. Honoring those who have served before.

Ahhhh Thank You For The Wilson Pickett Video! I grew up with that man’s beautiful voice and patterned my singing style after him. He was largely forgotten for many years until the Blues Brothers made him famous again. Like Aretha, he got his early vocal training in church.
What the media calls “R & B” these days is NOT R & B.
I sprained my ankle kicking a piece of sod back into place that the road workers had dislodged from my lawn. This after never having even received any injuries during my lifetime of riding Harleys, schlepping sound equipment, flying antique aircraft, climbing rocks, rappelling down sea cliffs, and rasselling alligators(ok..the last one is an exaggeration). Go Figure

Thanks. I remember Mr. Ford From his days at the El Monte Legion Stadium, where Cliffy Stone and the gang played. Though I grew up in El Monte, never went to the stadium, just saw all the early West Coast stars on our tiny black and white TV.
