It looked like the camera switched to night vision, and showed the two walking away again.... but from what I saw it doesn’t seem like either would be walking, let alone breathing much. Can anyone explain for me?

I do this for a living.....He's carrying a weapon draped with cloth for concealment and he sets off an IED where he crosses the board bridge. The blast occurs from under him. And yes, you can see with infrared during the day. Handy amongst vegetation.

That is a low yield explosion or just poorly mixed by less capable makers of HME (Home Made Explosives).

They could very well have walked away from it a little ways until the adrenaline wears off. Concussion, internal hemorrhaging...etc.

A few more things.....a couple of things indicates these individuals are not local Taliban but fresh from Pakistan.

The draping of the weapon and hauling it about during the day.....not something the locals do based upon experience.

They may have had training in Pakistan, however, they're new to fighting in general which is shown by their cavalier manner. They know the EO/IR asset is flying, they don't have personal knowledge of it's capabilities like the locals know. Even if they were told, they probably didn't take it seriously, hence the nonchalant manner with no looking around.

Probably due to attrition of experience amongst the local Taliban, the new insurgents were not aware of where all the IED’s were placed.

1) The explosion came from beneath him (under the ground).

2) It’s not a targeting camera, it’s just used for FOB security and outward surveillance. No weaponry attached.
