AMPA, FLORIDA, May 7, 2012, (LifeSiteNews.com) – Members of the nation’s largest mainline Protestant church voted to maintain the doctrine that homosexual actions were “incompatible with Christian teaching” on Thursday.

The United Methodist Church voted down two proposals to water down its stance on homosexuality on Thursday. One proposal called homosexuals “people of sacred worth” and acknowledged differing viewpoints on the issue, while another said humans did not know enough about human sexuality to prefer one lifestyle over another.

“...much of the opposition vote was from overseas, mostly Africa, where true Christian understanding hasn’t been sullied like it has here in North America.”

Interesting ... the traditional Episcopal parishes also had to turn to the African conferences when the ECUSA went so off the tracks.

I think the African Churches will keep the UMC in line for some time. The only thing that would change that would be for the proportional delegate rule to get tossed out or adjusted somehow. I don’t see any of the evangelical regions being amenable to such a thing.

Wow. Quite a surprise, xzins.

I know that historically the Methodist church has been very important and influential in America, with its circuit riders and camp meetings (and its opposition to DEMON RUM!).

The Missouri synod is still here, and as biblically sound as ever.

Hillary is one of the most prominent public persons listed among the membership of the UMC. That is different, IMO, from being a prominent member.

I wonder how much input the African and Mexican Methodist bishops had. Still, though, in spite of what's spread around about the UMC, there are still lots of good churches out there that haven't succumbed to the rot. I have heard them ask, "Why should be abandon our church to these people?" referring to the liberal/left.

Perhaps some of the more conservative refugees from the liberal wreckage of the PCUSA, ELCA and ECUSA have joined the UMC to slow down the leftism and heterodoxy.

our position is that "homosexuality is INCOMPATIBLE with Christian teaching", that "self-avowed homosexuals" will not be ordained, that homosexual marriages will NOT take place in our churches.

Let's shout that out loud. the UMC will NOT go the way of the ELCA, ECUSA, PCUSA...

Glory, glory hallelujah. This is so very important becuase the Methodists are such a large denomination. They are the dominant brnach of the church through much of the nation — especially the Midwest and parts of the Northeast. Thus, with the Baptists and the Catholics, the dominant churches in most states across the nation are standing firm against the wicked homoseuxal gestapo and their Communist enablers.

“I thought that with the exception of the Catholic Church and the Southern Baptists, western Christianity had basically knuckled under to the pervert lobby.”

Try the church of Christ. They don’t even use musical instruments in worship services because the Bible doesn’t expressly say to do so.

Another nice thing about the church is that each congregation hires (and, when necessary, fires) its own preacher.

Yes, he will. And Oden is associated with Drew, one of the most liberal of Methodist seminaries.
