Could the U.S. give up Mount Rushmore? Iconic site is on list of 'sacred land' UN says

A UN human official is urging the U.S. to turn over control of lands considered to be sacred to Native Americans, including the site of the Mount Rushmore National Memorial.

James Anaya, the UN special rapporteur on the rights of indigenous peoples, unveiled his recommendations in Geneva on Friday after completing a 12-day visit to the U.S. where he met with representatives of indigenous peoples in six states.

The fact-finder also had a chance to meet members of the Obama administration and briefed the U.S. Senate Committee on Indian Affairs, but no member of Congress agreed to meet with him.

For over a century, he said, the government had seized lands and resources from Native Americans, removed children from their families and communities, caused the loss of languages, broke treaties with tribes and oppressed the indigenous peoples on the grounds of racial discrimination.

Mount Rushmore, a popular tourist attraction, is located in the Black Hills, which the Sioux tribes consider to be sacred and have territorial claims to based on an 1868 treaty.

Shortly after that treaty was signed, gold was discovered in the region, and the U.S. Congress eventually passed a law taking over the land.

'I'm talking about restoring to indigenous peoples what obviously they're entitled to and they have a legitimate claim to in a way that is not divisive but restorative,' Mr Anaya said.

First Mt. Rushmore; next, all of North America. Because the Indians predate the black slaves, I suspect the Indians will win out. HOWEVER, they threw out Homo Erectus who was the first to arrive here from Asia. Therefore, the UN should dispute the Indians' claims.

I say we take over the UN building in New Yuck, turn it into a gun range, and boot those idjits the hell out of America. Free range passes to all indigenous Americans, half price shooting for everybody else on weekends.

Who’s with me?

"HOWEVER, they threw out Homo Erectus who was the first to arrive here from Asia."

As opposed to Erectus Homo who made a point of arriving fashionably late...

This bugs me, I mean, who really knows who came over here first. I believe, and it seems that there is some evidence, that ancient people got around more than we think they did. If we go by the Kennewick Man, Whitey has been running around North America along with the American Indians and so on. I know, and it is a shame the American Indians got the short end of the stick, I know what it is like, my Jewish ancestors in Russia had bad things happen too but we need to get over that and live life as it is today. Sure we remember and remember we must so we can say “never again,” but this victimhood card that is played is really a way to redistribute wealth as well as put the progressives in control over the rest of us. We need to tell the UN to go play in traffic.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhh Shiite. Don’t scare me like that. You gotta give us some kind of warning before you do that or a Helen Thomas creep shot. Sheesh I thought there was a posted rule about that somewhere around here. Let me dig around see if I find anything.

Thankfully Americans are too smart to elect anyone President who considers himself to be a “citizen of the world”....

America would be better off giving up the U.N.

Let the GSA have the U.N, building as an “event planning center”.

Tell the U.N. to take a hike and quit pretending it has jurisdiction or authority to make such asinine pronouncements.
