Marco Rubio on FOX News Sunday - Grand Slam!!! (Vanity)
May 6, 2012 | no dems

Posted on 05/06/2012 4:09:01 PM PDT by Homers-odd-I-see

I've been torn between Senator Rob Portman of Ohio and Senator Marco Rubio of Florida for the GOP Vice Presidential spot. Marco Rubio was on "FOX News Sunday With Chris Wallace" today. OMG, the dude was AWESOME!!! He did not miss a step; sharp, sensible, intelligent answers to every question. I was amazed at how smart this guy is. Don't know for sure, but, you might be able to see the interview on FOX News.com

Yep, Marco Rubio is my guy for VP.

Rubio was born in the USA and meets all other requirements to be a candidate for the presidency or vp.

Some of the knee jerk immigration hawks think anything not including execution is amnesty, and you can’t open, let alone change, any of their minds.

Go ahead. Try to change my mind. Why should people who've invaded my country be rewarded with anything let alone citizenship?

Rubio is smooth, smart and ambitious. All admirable qualities from my perspective though we would see things differently on illegals I’m sure. He’s plenty sharp enough to be the VP, much sharper than the dullard currently occupying that office, and he gives off a certain aura that tells me he would have no problem going for the prince’s throat and do it with a smile.

Though I like Palin a lot and we see eye to eye on almost all policy questions honesty compels me to say that Rubio is much more polished. Whether that is a good or bad thing I have not decided.

Since we aren’t taking questions about Rubio’s eligibility seriously because we can’t speak out against Romney, we might as well throw Sarkozy into the mix for VP nomination. He’s available now, you know.

You know, I even think you might be right, about Rubio. But it's not just you or I. How 'bout if we have a national debate about this before throwing him on the ticket?

And it's nice that you tell me that Rubio was born here. But from now on I think I'd like to see some proof.

Romney isn’t going to pick a VP that shines brighter than the boss

Everyone shines brighter than Romney and he knows it. Romney is going to select someone who will help him get to the White House. That's all that matters. Romney's no fool. He knows he's having a hard time closing the deal with conservatives and the candidate he picks will be expected to do just this (as well as deliver a battleground state).

At this point, I can't imagine him choosing anyone other than Marco Rubio.

"it’s an argument for the Supreme Court to decide, and it really doesn’t matter what any of us think."

You are correct. The Supreme Court has already established that to be classified as a "natural born citizen", both of your parents must be citizens at the time of your birth (Minor vs. Happersett). Rubio does not meet this standard and cannot be eligible to serve as Vice President or President. The preservation of our Constitution is far more valuable to any one of us than any candidate we might wish to have elected.

I think you’re citing the wrong case. At least according to Wikipedia:

Minor v. Happersett, 88 U.S. 162 (1875), was a United States Supreme Court case in which the Court held that the Constitution did not grant women the right to vote. The Supreme Court upheld state court decisions in Missouri, which had refused to register a woman as a lawful voter because that state’s laws allowed only men to vote.

Actually, Mittens is considering Joe Biden. Obama will dump him for Hillary! and Joe will need a VP gig. Therefore, Mittens will “reach across the aisle” to his Donkey betters for a Veep. It certainly won't be any intelligent conservative with a brain that has any kind of principles. For Romney, a man or woman with principles is like showing a crucifix to a vampire.

You mean this:

“The Constitution does not, in words, say who shall be natural-born citizens. Resort must be had elsewhere to ascertain that. At common-law, with the nomenclature of which the framers of the Constitution were familiar, it was never doubted that all children born in a country of parents who were its citizens became themselves, upon their birth, citizens also. These were natives, or natural-born citizens, as distinguished from aliens or foreigners. Some authorities go further and include as citizens children born within the jurisdiction without reference to the citizenship of their parents. As to this class there have been doubts, but never as to the first. For the purposes of this case it is not necessary to solve these doubts. It is sufficient for everything we have now to consider that all children born of citizen parents within the jurisdiction are themselves citizens.”

If so, that does not nearly resolve the issue. In fact, it explicitly refrains from considering the issue.

To add to your post. A seasoned law professor and attorney from Harvard of all places took on Brett Bair's silly explanation that US code 1401 determines natural born citizenship:

"Attorney Herb Titus, who has taught constitutional law for nearly 30 years and was the founding dean of the College of Law and Government at Regent University in Virginia Beach, Va., is offering a correction to Fox News anchor Bret Baier’s explanation of “natural born citizen.”

The issue arose this week when Baier posted online his explanation of “natural born citizen” and said that the issue is resolved by federal law. He pointed to 8 U.S. Code, Section 1401, contending all that is required is for the mother to be an American citizen who has lived in the U.S. for five years or more, at least two of these years after the age of 14.

The question arose in the context of concerns he was observing regarding the eligibility of Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, who was born before his parents were citizens of the U.S.

Baier asserted that people born in the U.S., born outside the U.S. to parents who are both citizens or born outside the U.S. to one parent who is a U.S. citizen are “all natural born U.S. citizens.”

Titus’ takes Baier to task.

“Bret Baier commits a common error,” he wrote in the response posted online at the Article 2 Superpac. “He assumes that ‘natural born citizen’ means the same thing as ‘citizen by birth.’ They are not the same. A citizen by birth is one who by constitutional or statutory provision is made or recognized as a citizen based upon where or to whom they were born.”

He continued, “Under Mr. Baier’s view, a natural born citizen, then, is a citizen of a particular nation only by positive law. If a natural born citizen is defined by statute, as Mr. Baier claims they are, then by statute Congress can take away their natural born citizenship status, subject only to the 14th Amendment’s definition of citizenship by birth. And even that citizenship can be taken away by an amendment to the Constitution. Indeed, according to Mr. Baier, no one could have been eligible to be elected president UNLESS Congress passed a statute designating one’s citizenship by birth, or until the 14th amendment definition of citizenship by birth was ratified.”

The issue has been in the news since Barack Obama campaigned for president in 2008. Questions about his eligibility have yet to be resolved, as he’s continued to conceal many personal documents."

Virginia's guy imagined he'd be in the running. I have no doubt Romney is tempted to pick him up ~ that way he can campaign the way the Democrats want him to ~ on the question of pre-abortion sonograms.

Rubio would let him campaign about Blue Hairs losing Medicare (which would be a real yuck yuck).

There are others out there with just the hook 'bama wants.

Actually all the candidates approved by the money guys behind Romney have some serious failings ~ since they all want to argue for Democrat ideas.

Agree, Rubio did a great job in his interview with Chris Wallace. I’ve heard Rubio speak and have always been impressed. But, I’ve wondered if he was not yet ready for VP role. After this morning, I hope Romney picks Rubio. He answered every question very thoughtfully, thoroughly, and without hesitation. He also gave answers that he wanted to give vs what Wallace wanted to hear. He appears genuine and speaks plainly so all can relate.

Give someone like Romney a few days in the presidency and he'll be commiting impeachable offenses. So, we have a concern who the replacement is by mid-February under optimal conditions.

The "truce" does not extend to Romney's selection for VP ~ I'd much prefer a full convention vote on that, and then only after some really serious credentials checks.

NO MORE OBAMAS.
