Congress' intelligence heads: Taliban stronger

The leaders of the congressional committees said Sunday they believed that the Taliban had grown stronger since President Barack Obama sent 33,000 more U.S. troops to Afghanistan in 2010.

The Taliban problem should have been handled in 2001, but President Bush’s administration got sidetracked by nation building, coalition forming and finally by the stupidity of instigating a counterproductive crusade against Saddam Hussein before the first job was done. As former CIA employee Michael Scheuer has said, the time to have dealt with al Qaeda and the Taliban was while the ruins in New York and Washington were still smoking.
