Sore Lugar
American Spectator ^ | 5.8.12 | JOHN TABIN

Posted on 05/09/2012 6:52:25 AM PDT by Qbert

Jim mentioned this earlier, but it's worth highlighting Dick Lugar's shrill parting statement. Though he says "I hope my opponent wins in November," it doesn't sound like he means it:

If Mr. Mourdock is elected, I want him to be a good Senator. But that will require him to revise his stated goal of bringing more partisanship to Washington. He and I share many positions, but his embrace of an unrelenting partisan mindset is irreconcilable with my philosophy of governance and my experience of what brings results for Hoosiers in the Senate. In effect, what he has promised in this campaign is reflexive votes for a rejectionist orthodoxy and rigid opposition to the actions and proposals of the other party...

[Snip]

This is not conducive to problem solving and governance. And he will find that unless he modifies his approach, he will achieve little as a legislator.

[Snip]

As the liberal journalist Evan McMorris-Santoro quips, he's playing the role of Democratic surrogate.

Apparently Lugar's much-vaunted civility is a courtesy he extends only to his left; turning to his right, he becomes a churl. Good riddance; I'm sure he'll do very well at the high-paying K Street job that likely awaits him.

They all develop this attitude after a couple of terms in the Senate. It’s a huge part of the whole problem.

That’s why we need term limits, politics should not be a career.

I saw Mourdock in a TV interview this morning and he said flat out - "I'm not compromising with anyone."
Right on, right on, right on.

And...hopefully Lugar is spot on. HOPEFULLY Mourdock doesn’t accomplish a damn thing! But hopefully he helps STOP a lot of bad stuff! Right on, indeed! No compromise! Time to tie the Senate into knots!

DO NOT be surprised if you find inside the beltway establishment republicans clandestinely funneling resources to Joe Donnelly! They absolutely HATE the TEA party and will do ANYTHING to defeat it!

. . . I want him to be a good Senator. But that will require him to revise his stated goal of bringing more partisanship to Washington . . . his embrace of an unrelenting partisan mindset is irreconcilable with my philosophy of governance and my experience of what brings results for Hoosiers in the Senate. In effect, what he has promised in this campaign is reflexive votes for a rejectionist orthodoxy and rigid opposition to the actions and proposals of the other party . . .

This is the fundamental difference between Tea Party votes and major party votes. The Tea Party doesn't want to compromise on freedom or on responsible government just to bring "results for Hoosiers", not at the expense of results for the next generation of Americans. I am rigidly opposed to communism, to socialism, to big government liberalism, and to spending $1.5T more a year than the federal government brings in. I don't see any flaws at all in rigid opposition to Obama, Pelosi, and Reid, when their entire purpose in life is to subvert individual freedom.

I'm glad that Lugar is out; he was 100% wrong on compromise, which meant repeatedly splitting the difference between the current level of government intrusion and the level of government meddling in our wallets and in our lives desired by the far left. I hope the new Tea Party Senators and Congressmen will push for "compromise" in the sense of repeatedly splitting the difference between our current level of bloated government and a return to a limited and constitutional government. And I hope the far left will not default to reflexive votes for a rejectionist orthodoxy and rigid opposition to the actions and proposals of the patriotic Tea Party.

Lugar is a TYPICAL RINO. If they can’t get nominated, they would rather a Democrat get in BECAUSE RINOs think more like Democrats than they tnink like fellow Republicans.

Lugar flipped the Tea Party off and they happily returned the favor. Buh-bye.

Is Lugar looking for support to pull a Murkowski? Sounds more like a campaign speech than a concession speech.

Boy, you sure hit the nail on the head! Like yourself, I’m actually a moderate centrist. I’d love to eliminate whole government departments, but I’m eager to compromise for cutting them in half. Now THAT is moderation, and I sure hope the Democrats and RINOs default to reflexive votes for a rejectionist... Well, you made the point better than I.

There’s nothing wrong with compromise so long as we’re moving to the right for a change. That’s the bottom line.

There needs to be a blood test to determine how long a candidate can be in DC before they lose what soul they have.

Until then, term limits!

I meant to post, DON’T default to reflexive votes against compromise...so long as we’re compromising on how extensively to cut government.

...unrelenting partisan mindset...

Lugar's brain is adled by Washington DC-itus. Has he forgotten what the parasites did with their super-majority in 2009-2010? How Pelosi-Reid rolled Bush in 2007-2008? We need unrelenting conservative partisanship to unravel the mess created by the left.

"This is the fundamental difference between Tea Party votes and major party votes. The Tea Party doesn't want to compromise on freedom or on responsible government just to bring "results for Hoosiers", not at the expense of results for the next generation of Americans.

I would argue that Hoosiers- and people of all 50 states, for that matter- benefit the most under true Conservatism. When we had the closest thing to this ideal under Reagan and the Contract with America, we had explosive economic growth that benefitted everybody; when we strayed from this ideal (and the day was ruled by politicians like Lugar who helped further radical leftism), things went downhill fast.
