(LAS VEGAS CBS KXNT) A student protest staged by the Clark County Education Association on Monday put a spotlight on the resignations of 15 veteran teachers who are leaving because of the district’s performance assessment policies.

About 200 elementary school students marched and chanted, while one parent and at least one teacher accused the principal of Vegas Verdes Elementary of issuing unduly harsh evaluations in order to push the teachers out the door.

The protestors shouted down a lone activist who used a bullhorn to speak to them in Spanish. Andreas Mendoza said he was trying to tell the parents that the they were being used by the teachers union, and that they should instead show up at school board meetings to air their concerns.

A spokesperson for the Clark County School District said Vegas Verdes is an underperforming school, and a new principal has been assigned to turn it around.

Collusion occuring in Clark County, where the non-PhD superintendent, hatchet man Dwight Jones, possibly the first African-American superintendent of the County, has told administrators to change 2s to 1s, the lowest score on reviews, which is collusion and basically fraud.

More wonders the Obama administration has presided over, torturing teachers and running them out.

Why does having a PhD matter to being a competent superintendent? That's a red herring. The guy is African American, so I have to ask whether we have an affirmative action hire with questionable skills. What kind of track record did he bring to the table that prompted his selection to the position? Does he have a good or back prior track record?

They were clearly acting entirely of their own volition, expressing their considered opinions on the competency of the teachers in question, based on their accrued experience in such matters./irony

Because, clearly, the former PhD superintendent did a bang up job if he/she had to be replaced due to an “underperforming school” PhDs in bogus ‘disciplines’ like education deserve no respect.

Wrong here. The former superintendent didn't have to be replaced, he retired.

I would want to protest ... protest that they were allowed to resign instead of being fired for their poor performance!

“About 200 elementary studens marched and changed”

Was this during SCHOOL HOURS? What was the reason given to the kids? Kids are little minds full of mush and think the teachers are “way smarter than you”....

Gee, golly - in the real world you can be fired any time, dont you know?

Here in Madison, WI - there were LOTS of school kids brought TO the raging and out of control demonsntrations in our beautiful capital building last year. Those union thug teachers (for the children you know) brought the kids there to help protest.

And you wonder why the real hard working, tax paying people showed up to the tune of 626,000 strong to vote for and show support for Gov. Walker yesterday? The GOP primary yesterday meant pretty much nothing. I could not WAIT to get my vote for Walker counted. The real recall is June 5.

I don’t know both sides of this argument but either way, Union thug teachers have NO right indoctrinating children for the purpose of protests and in this manner. The teachers who LED this protest, took the students out of class should ALSO be fired. What do you say?

I think these teachers should have to defend their actions to the kids parents face to face in a public meeting.
