Obama's Sudden Shift On Gay Marriage Nets A $1MILLION In Just 90 Minutes - as Republicans accuse him of 'playing politics'

Obama supported gay marriage in 1996 but later opposed it in 2004 Sasha and Malia's friends, who have gay parents, helped change the president's mind

Obama says issue should still be left up to the states New position draws sharp contrast with Republicans like Mitt Romney, who opposes same sex unions By MICHAEL ZENNIE and THOMAS DURANTE

9 May 2012

As President Obama changed his mind on the issue of gay marriage, he sent shockwaves through the political world - and a boatload of cash into his campaign war chest.

After Obama's announcement, his re-election crusade saw a spike in donations.

In fact, BuzzFeed reported that Obama's 2012 campaign collected an astonishing $1million within 90 minutes after the ABC News interview aired. One contributor, Stuart Kopperman - who married his gay partner in Washington, D.C. - told the Associated Press that he made a $25 contribution to the Obama campaign 'to say thank you.'

“0bama is going to lose, and lose big. I gain confidence in this view day by day.”

I’ve been cautiously optimistic about this, and more so now than before; no matter how much his media trumpeted his popularity, the only polls that mattered (the ballots on election days) have been steadily against him since 2009. Given that, I believe he has now been paid to simply ram through as much as possible in his remaining time to continue the destruction of the Western civilzation on which this country was built.

Completely agree. The corrupt MSM is doing their best to try to hide this near fact, but based on what we saw yesterday in WI, I almost see no possible way Obama wins.

People are just biding their time right now. Come election day you will see a tsunami against Obama.

I”m thinking that Obama is going to help Republicans win black votes by doing this. Blacks are not so hip to gay marriage. I think this is yet another example of Obama touching something, causing the worsening condition of it. I knew, when zero put Missouri Tigers in his bracket, that they would lose immediately. Obama is going to hurt the gay marriage push.

I continue to think that an effective campaign tool would be a billboard showing two men kissing along with a photo of Obama and a factual statement that Obama believes that a man should be able to marry a man - in Spanish as well as in English.

Or something similar - ‘if you want men to marry men, then vote for Obama’.

Racial animosity has been managed well by the Dems; I don’t think they’ll have to work hard to keep the black votes (they’ll simply dangle freebies until they forget their “hang-ups”). On the other hand, as an increasingly marginalized voting bloc, the black vote isn’t something any politician should reach for on a national level at the expense of any other one (Obama gets them for free).

Obama avoided this issue in 2008 because he had to deceive white Americans that he was a “regular guy” (and the issue failed in every state - including the most liberal ones - whenever put on the ballot); that mask slipped a long time ago, and cannot be re-fitted. At this point he’s just destroying as much as he can before he’s out, and has been promised something lucrative for doing so.

That's all? In the overall scheme of things I would be rather embarrassed that such a paltry amount came in.

1,000,000 / 25 = 40,000 contributors or 80k packers assuming this one is average.

I wonder if that’s new donations out of the blue or if that’s the money his fudge packer pals were holding over his head as a threat, to force him to come out of the closet.
