Breaking: Romney apologizes for high-school pranks
Hotair ^ | 05/10/2012 | Ed Morrissey

Posted on 05/10/2012 8:50:48 AM PDT by SeekAndFind

Thankfully, our long national nightmare is over:

Mitt Romney apologized on Thursday morning for pranks he helped orchestrate in high school that he said “might have gone too far,” including an incident in which he pinned down a fellow student and cut his hair.

The presumptive Republican presidential nominee was responding to an article published a few hours earlier by The Washington Post documenting the episode with first-hand accounts from Romney’s classmates.

“Back in high school, I did some dumb things and if anybody was hurt by that or offended, obviously I apologize for that,” Romney said in a live radio interview with Fox News Channel personality Brian Kilmeade. Romney added: “I participated in a lot of hijinks and pranks during high school and some might have gone too far and for that, I apologize.”

Romney’s campaign hastily scheduled the radio interview for the candidate to call in from Omaha, where he is holding a campaign event later Wednesday, to respond to The Post’s report.

Politically speaking, this was the smart thing to do. Other campaigns would have tried challenging the veracity of the stories and/or the motives of the witnesses, but that’s a losing proposition. The more a campaign debates those points, the longer the story goes, and the more legitimacy it has in the media. Instead, the Romney campaign made it an old story before it began to grow legs by just expressing remorse over any cruelty that may have taken place in high school.

I eagerly await the next set of stories about how in middle school Romney refused to give cuts in line to kids from low-income families, or how he shamelessly violated the “exies-no-erasies” rule in elementary school with his female classmates.

So when will we hear the dirt on O’suckyObummer?

Don't hold your breath. If Hillary didn't find it four years ago, it's not there to be found.

Has Romney apologized to the citizens of Massachusetts?

"As U.S. real output grew 13 percent between 2002 and 2006, Massachusetts trailed at 9 percent.
* Manufacturing employment fell 7 percent nationwide those years, but sank 14 percent under Romney, placing Massachusetts 48th among the states.
* Between fall 2003 and autumn 2006, U.S. job growth averaged 5.4 percent, nearly three times Massachusetts' anemic 1.9 percent pace.
* While 8 million Americans over age 16 found work between 2002 and 2006, the number of employed Massachusetts residents actually declined by 8,500 during those years.
"Massachusetts was the only state to have failed to post any gain in its pool of employed residents," professors Sum and McLaughlin concluded.
In an April 2003 meeting with the Massachusetts congressional delegation in Washington, Romney failed to endorse President Bush's $726 billion tax-cut proposal."

[Cato Institute annual Fiscal Policy Report Card - America's Governors, 2004.]

Alex Beam: “In truth, Ronald Reagan
and Mitt Romney have as much in common
as Cardinal O’Malley and Conan O’Brien.
Deservedly or not, Reagan earned a reputation for constancy.
Once he turned against communism, he opposed it big-time.
…. And our former governor? Inconstancy, thy name is Mitt!
A woman’s right to choose? Yes! No! Yes!
Are we in Massachusetts? Yes! Are we in Iowa? No!
Are we on TV? Whatever!”

ALL IN THE PLAN TO HELP RE-ELECT OBAMA FOLKS

Exactly. An idiotic story that panders to idiots. The country is circling the freaking drain, and will go down the drain if the idiots prevail, and the big topic is Romney's (alleged) attitudes toward homosexuals when he was in high school.

We may come to the day when we'll see that what Obama called "an obscure passage in Romans" is proven correct.

How did he evade prison after all these years?

One story mentions that the state law for assault with a deadly weapon stops the statute-of-limitations clock whenever the perp is out of state -- theoretically, he could still be charged.

I totally agree with you: a very weak move by Mittens.

I’ve read where they imply that the kid Romney hazed was maybe gay. And gee wizz, this story comes out the same time Obama is saying gay marriage is swell. What an amazing coincidence.

At a minimum, the author should win a Pulitzer for this incredible piece of investigative journalism. We are in the presence of greatness, folks. The raw emotion that the author elicited from his eyewitness sources - is - just incredible. I was right there back in high school with the victim experiencing the horrible, life-changing haircut with him. People can relate to this.

After all, who hasn’t had a bad haircut?

Outstanding. Simply outstanding.

"Amazing powers of recall. I went to high school in the late 1970s and I couldn’t tell you much of anything that happened back then."

A little help and motivation from Obama script writers can work wonders.

Mitt should have just said “Really?!?!? Is that the best you can do?” Simple...it’s common sense...he should have said that (imitating John Belushi) “But nooooooooo”, he had to dignify it with an apology.

McLame Part Deux.

Romney reacts. Does not take it to Obama. Even still, he will get elected. Obama is going to lose in a landslide so large that no amount of voter fraud will make a difference.

HIGH SCHOOL FRIGGING HIGH SCHOOL, the corrupt biased media cannot find out about bozo’s drug use, his homo friendship, his B/C or even Ayers, Wright etc , hell they can’t even know about Holders contempt going on but they dig up high school of Romney.

Before he came out for the homo sham marriage I thought we’d never win this election but now after him pandering and wanting money off Hollywood and now this then their campaign is in serious trouble

I think it is heartening to know that Romney remembers having been mean to that kid and regrets it.

Actually Romney says that he doesn't remember it.

KILMEADE: Right and some were speaking out and listed in this story, they talk about a prank that could have gone on in high school with a guy named John Lauber, who they say that you and a couple of his friends, this guy was thought to be a homosexual, cut his hair — pinned him down and cut his hair. Do you remember any of this?

ROMNEY: I don’t remember that incident and I’ll tell you I certainly don’t believe that I, I can’t speak for other people of course, thought the fellow was homosexual. That was the furthest thing from my mind back in the 1960s, so that was not the case. But as to pranks that were played back then, I don’t remember them all, but again, high school days, if I did stupid things, why I’m afraid I got to say sorry for it.

This is ridiculous.

Boys are boys unless they are the unwanted child of an America hating mother and an African communist who was raised by a gay Indonesian nanny before being shipped off to prep school to hang out with his communist grandfather and communist bi-sexual “mentor” before being sent to college where he gravitated to marxists and foreign students and then disappeared into NY - a time that shall not be spoken of by the MSM.

Hi , not been on for some time due to me having no pc but got on y kids tablet now.

This corrupt lying sack of crap media does a story like this of 40 years ago but cannot go over bozo’s homo affair, B/C, college papers, drug use, hell how about Holder and his corruption, nope they cover when Romney was in high school

their campaign is in more trouble than I first thought, to come out for the homo sham marriage in order to get Clooney’s and Hollywood’s money and now this , then WOW, we do have a chance of winning this.

O and last time i talked to you I read your post and you’re right, if bozo gets another 4 years we are screwed but after yesterday and his love for the homo money to get homo money and now this then i am more than confident of winning this year and taking all branches

Most boys learn to behave is an acceptable civilized manner. “Boys” who think they are overlords and above the rules laid down for the common herd are a different matter.
