The Antietam of the Culture War
Townhall.com ^ | May 11, 2012 | Pat Buchanan

Posted on 05/11/2012 3:35:11 AM PDT by Kaslin

It took Joe Biden's public embrace of same-sex marriage to smoke him out.

But after Joe told David Gregory of "Meet the Press" he was "absolutely comfortable" with homosexuals marrying, Barack Obama could not maintain his credibility with the cultural elite if he stuck with the biblical view that God ordained marriage as solely between a man and woman. The biblical view had to go.

Obama had to move, or look like a malingerer in secularism's next great moral advance into post-Christian America.

Consider. Obama had an appearance coming up on "The View," where Whoopi Goldberg would have demanded to know why he lacked the courage of Biden's convictions. He has a $40,000-a-plate fundraiser at George Clooney's, where the Hollywood crowd would want to know why he does not end discrimination against homosexuals.

He has appearances lined up before gay activists raising millions for his campaign. Monday, his press secretary was pilloried for his feeble defense of Obama's now-abandoned position.

His hand was forced. Yet the stand Obama took could cost him his presidency. Same-sex marriage may yet be a bridge too far, even for a dying Christian America.

On the plus side for Obama, his decision is producing hosannas from the elites and an infusion of cash from those who see same-sex marriage as the great moral and civil rights issue of our time.

But Obama may also have just solved Mitt Romney's big problem: How does Mitt get all those evangelical Christians and cultural conservatives not only to vote for him but to work for him?

Obama, by declaring that homosexual marriages should be on the same legal and moral plane as traditional marriage, just took command of the forces of anti-Christian secularism in America's Kulturkampf. And Nov. 6, 2012, is shaping up as the Antietam of the culture war.

Obama's second problem is that he may soon be seen as America's champion of same-sex marriage, but an ineffectual advocate. For Obama can do nothing, as of now, to impose homosexual marriage on the American people.

Thirty-one states have voted to outlaw it. A constitutional amendment supporting same-sex marriage could not win a majority of either house of Congress, let alone the necessary two-thirds of both.

Hence, Obama is going to spend six months winning cheers by calling for same-sex marriage. But the price of those cheers will be the rallying of millions of opponents of homosexual marriage, who will fight this battle where they are winning it, at the state level.

Only six states have approved homosexual marriage, while 30 have imposed a constitutional ban. In North Carolina, a ban not only on same-sex marriage but also civil unions, though opposed by Obama and Bill Clinton, carried on Tuesday with 61 percent of the vote.

Republican turnout in North Carolina's primary was up half a million, the highest in history. And this is a state Obama carried in 2008, a state whose largest city, Charlotte, will host Obama's convention.

Even in liberal California in 2008, while John McCain was getting a smaller share of the vote than Barry Goldwater in 1964, Proposition 8, restricting marriage to men and women, won.

How does Obama propose to win this battle?

He has one path to victory -- the Supreme Court.

The New York Times, declaring that homosexuals' right to marry is "too precious and too fragile to be left up to the whim of states and the tearing winds of modern partisan politics," is looking to the court as the last, best hope to impose same-sex marriage on the nation.

Can't trust voters, can't trust elected legislators, can't trust Congress. Homosexual marriage, says the Times, is too important to be left to democratic decision. The republic must be commanded to accept it by unelected judges who serve for life and against whom the people have no political recourse.

That process of judicial tyranny has begun. A California judge has overturned the decision of California's voters to ban gay marriage, and his ruling is headed for the high court.

The Supreme Court thus will tell us whether this issue is to be decided democratically by voters and their elected state and federal legislators, or dictatorially by themselves.

Four liberal activists on the Supreme Court -- Elena Kagan, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Stephen Breyer and Sonia Sotomayor -- are probably ready to declare that homosexual marriage is a constitutional right, as their predecessors declared abortion to be a constitutional right.

But Obama needs one more justice. If elected, he will get it, and same-sex marriage will be forced on all of America. If Romney wins, the Supreme Court will likely leave the issue of same-sex marriage to be decided by the people and their elected representatives.

Thus everything is up for grabs this November: the House, the Senate, the presidency, the Supreme Court and whether we still call the United States of America God's country.

Game on!

If this is Antietam, how about making sure McClellan pursues Lee back to the Potomac and beats the snot out of him this time rather than letting him get away to fight another day.

The moral outrage over this incident doesn't jibe with the DEAD silence of all the punditry when DADT was killed in the middle of the night with no fanfare protestations. The repeal of DADT was Shiloh, Antietam,Gettysburg and Appomattox all rolled into one.

Why does Limbaugh freely talk about this but NOTHING when DADT was on the chopping block, Rush is full of crap on this.

This is not Antietam, this is Gettysburg on the third day.

The enemy is charging the bloody angle. They will fail, fall back and the tide of socialist perversion will begin to recede.

November will tell the tale. Take heart people, they will not win.

Genesis 19:4-5, 9

4. Before they had gone to bed, all the men from every part of the city of Sodom--both young and old--surrounded the house.
5. They called to Lot, "Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them out to us so that we can have sex with them."

9 “Get out of our way,” they replied. “This fellow came here as a foreigner, and now he wants to play the judge! We’ll treat you worse than them.” They kept bringing pressure on Lot and moved forward to break down the door.

Once again, "Rush is right". Although both of the two issues relate to homosexuality, they actually are very different. DADT was a "creation" of Bill Clinton to get him a pass on an issue that he had promised his gay and lesbian supporters that he would deal with, but that he had not emphasized at all during the run up to the election. When it was the first item on his agenda upon taking office, the public was surprised and outraged. In 1992, the view of the general public was not as accepting of homosexuality that it is today. Clinton had to do something to have it both ways so he came up with DADT.

DADT was not a law passed by individual state legislatures or by a referendum by the people in those states. After the vote in NC on Tuesday, a total of 30 states have now made it clear that they view the term "marriage" to be appropriate only for unions between one man and one woman. The likelihood of getting enough states to ratify a same-sex marriage amendment to the Constitution is almost nil. A Supreme Court that would overturn a law that has been passed by 60% of the states would demonstrate that it is making a political and not a constitutional decision, although Pat is right that another pick by Obama would create a court that would have the audacity to do exactly that!

Many people do not realize that ANY sexual activity outside of marriage, whether heterosexual or homosexual, between members of the military is against the UCMJ because it disrupts unit cohesion. The primary purpose of the military is to fight wars, not serve as an incubator for social experimentation despite the desire of the liberals to use it as such. IMO, homosexual activity is potentially more disruptive to a unit because of the lack of privacy in the military where members of the same sex sleep in the same barracks, shower in open showers, and are crammed on in bunks stacked on top of each other on a ship or in a submarine.

I proudly voted for Newt and Amendment 1 in NC on Tuesday, but neither will be on the ballot in November. As the daughter of a minister, I have believed in Jesus since I could talk and the experiences in my 62 years of life have molded me into what I would call an evangelical Christian. I regularly participate in intensive Bible studies for women (Beth Moore is my favorite), I have sung in my church choir for years, and I brought up my children in Sunday School and Church. Mitt Romney is NOT my first or even second or third choice for the Republican nominee (in fact, I am one of those who believe Mormonism is by defintion a cult), but I will NOT be part of giving Obama a vote by default by refusing to vote for Mitt. The damage Obama has done to this nation in four short years is unbelievable and he can not be given the freedom to do even worse damage because he can not run for office again.

There sure are a LOT of folks who'd rather have a deceived MORMON holding the reins of power; a member of a known CULT that defies CHRISTIANITY; whose very presence in the Oval Office will give authenticity to a diabolical heresy, than a man who can merely ruin our country faster.

Oh well; it's a free country...

The damage Obama has done to this nation in four short years is unbelievable and he can not be given the freedom to do even worse damage because he can not run for office again.

Unfortunately, he seems to be running again. The Tea Party movement got traction by emphasizing economic issues and downplaying social issues. We saw what happened in 2010. Obama can't run on the economy.

He needed a lame duck Congress to repeal Don't Ask, Don't Tell because we're a right of center country. And now he wants to restart the culture war promoting same sex marriage and forcing religious institutions to provide free contraception, abortifacients and sterilization procedures?

IMHO, these clowns are desperate and dangerous.

Gee Church lady, I image the Republic will survive an Romney term, just as it has survived a few Deists presidencies, a couple of Quaker presidents and even a Catholic president without becoming a thrall of the pope.

And if you're worried about thousands being lead into heresy, you need to be concerned about your own.

Unless you are one of the few Christians who observe the TRUE sabbath, you know, the one Moses, and Abraham and Jesus observed,(from sunset Friday to sunset Saturday) you have NEVER followed the fourth Command. Instead you worshiped alongside with the heathen pagan sun worshippers on their holy day.

So don't worry. I'm sure all those whom you've condemned as heretics have saved you a seat along side of them.

You need to look into the political power behind him and their agenda... and it isn't just the GOP...adn I'm not talking about his religious beliefs nor that of LDS founders...just check out what the leaders are doing and invested in...what their assets are..who they hang with...etc.

Not saying they were right, just saying they too believed in dark, spooky, conspiracies behind closed doors to rule America. They were wrong, much like you are wrong to think the American people and the US Constitution would allow Romney or any other religion to tum America into a Mormon satrap.

Oh??

John 6:28-29 (niv)

Then they asked him, “What must we do to do the works God requires?”

Jesus answered, “The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent.”

1 John 3:21-24

Dear friends, if our hearts do not condemn us, we have confidence before God and receive from him anything we ask, because we keep his commands and do what pleases him.  And this is his command: to believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and to love one another as he commanded us.  The one who keeps God’s commands lives in him, and he in them. And this is how we know that he lives in us: We know it by the Spirit he gave us.

... you've condemned as heretics...

Are you aware of what the LDS organization; based in Salt Lake City, thinks about CHRISTIANS??

Questions put to Joseph Smith: "'Do you believe the Bible?' [Smith:]'If we do, we are the only people under heaven that does, for there are none of the religious sects of the day that do'. When asked 'Will everybody be damned, but Mormons'? [Smith replied] 'Yes, and a great portion of them, unless they repent, and work righteousness." (Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, p. 119).
Joseph Smith: "for the teachers of religion of the different sects understood the same passages of scripture so differently as to destroy all confidence in settling the question by an appeal to the Bible" (from Pearl of Great Price 1:12). "What is it that inspires professors of Christianity generally with a hope of salvation? It is that smooth, sophisticated influence of the devil, by which he deceives the whole world" (Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, p.270).

Brigham Young stated this repeatedly: "When the light came to me I saw that all the so-called Christian world was grovelling in darkness" (Journal of Discourses 5:73); "The Christian world, so-called, are heathens as to the knowledge of the salvation of God" (Journal of Discourses 8:171); "With a regard to true theology, a more ignorant people never lived than the present so-called Christian world" (Journal of Discourses 8:199); "And who is there that acknowledges [God's] hand? ...You may wander east, west, north, and south, and you cannot find it in any church or government on the earth, except the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints" (Journal of Discourses , vol. 6, p.24); "Should you ask why we differ from other Christians, as they are called, it is simply because they are not Christians as the New Testament defines Christianity" (Journal of Discourses 10:230).

Orson Pratt proclaimed: "Both Catholics and Protestants are nothing less than the 'whore of Babylon' whom the Lord denounces by the mouth of John the Revelator as having corrupted all the earth by their fornications and wickedness. Any person who shall be so corrupt as to receive a holy ordinance of the Gospel from the ministers of any of these apostate churches will be sent down to hell with them, unless they repent" (The Seer, p. 255).

Orson Pratt also said: "This great apostasy commenced about the close of the first century of the Christian era, and it has been waxing worse and worse from then until now" (Journal of Discourses
, vol.18, p.44) and: "But as there has been no Christian Church on the earth for a great many centuries past, until the present century, the people have lost sight of the pattern that God has given according to which the Christian Church should be established, and they have denominated a great variety of people Christian Churches, because they profess to be ...But there has been a long apostasy, during which the nations have been cursed with apostate churches in great abundance" (Journal of Discourses , 18:172).

President John Taylor stated: "Christianity...is a perfect pack of nonsense...the devil could not invent a better engine to spread his work than the Christianity of the nineteenth century." (Journal of Discourses , vol. 6, p.167); "Where shall we look for the true order or authority of God? It cannot be found in any nation of Christendom." (Journal of Discourses , 10:127).

James Talmage said: "A self-suggesting interpretation of history indicates that there has been a great departure from the way of salvation as laid down by the Savior, a universal apostasy from the Church of Christ". (A Study of the Articles of Faith, p.182).

President Joseph Fielding Smith said: "Doctrines were corrupted, authority lost, and a false order of religion took the place of the gospel of Jesus Christ, just as it had been the case in former dispensations, and the people were left in spiritual darkness." (Doctrines of Salvation, p.266). "For hundreds of years the world was wrapped in a veil of spiritual darkness, until there was not one fundamental truth belonging to the place of salvation ...Joseph Smith declared that in the year 1820 the Lord revealed to him that all the 'Christian' churches were in error, teaching for commandments the doctrines of men" (Doctrines of Salvation, vol. 3, p.282).

More recent statements by apostle Bruce McConkie are also very clear: "Apostasy was universal...And this darkness still prevails except among those who have come to a knowledge of the restored gospel" (Doctrines of Salvation, vol 3, p.265); "Thus the signs of the times include the prevailing apostate darkness in the sects of Christendom and in the religious world in general" (The Millennial Messiah, p.403); "a perverted Christianity holds sway among the so-called Christians of apostate Christendom" (Mormon Doctrine, p.132); "virtually all the millions of apostate Christendom have abased themselves before the mythical throne of a mythical Christ whom they vainly suppose to be a spirit essence who is incorporeal uncreated, immaterial and three-in-one with the Father and Holy Spirit" (Mormon Doctrine, p.269); "Gnosticism is one of the great pagan philosophies which antedated Christ and the Christian Era and which was later commingled with pure Christianity to form the apostate religion that has prevailed in the world since the early days of that era." (Mormon Doctrine, p.316).

President George Q. Cannon said: "After the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was organized, there were only two churches upon the earth. They were known respectively as the Church of the Lamb of God and Babylon. The various organizations which are called churches throughout Christendom, though differing in their creeds and organizations, have one common origin. They all belong to Babylon" (Gospel Truth, p.324).

President Wilford Woodruff stated: "the Gospel of modern Christendom shuts up the Lord, and stops all communication with Him. I want nothing to do with such a Gospel, I would rather prefer the Gospel of the dark ages, so called" (Journal of Discourses , vol. 2, p.196).

[Buchanan] A California judge has overturned the decision of California's voters to ban gay marriage, and his ruling is headed for the high court.

A small army of over 500 homosexual lawyers has been preparing for over 30 years for this fight, and they have the aces in hand, and another up their sleeve -- Associate Justice Anthony Kennedy, who wrote the opinion (without reference to precedent) in Lawrence vs. Texas.

Evan Wolfson, who was on Gwen Ifill's News Hour recently, laid out the gay strategy in a long interview that he gave to 365gay.com in 1981, after Lambda Legal and supporting homosexual NGO's lost the James Dale case (Boy Scouts of America) in 2000, that had sought to force the BSA to accept homosexuals in scouting and "admit" that their qualification of "moral straightness" could not serve as a bar against homosexual irruption into the organization and exploitation of the boys.

The attack will be against the entire American People, all 50 States, and it will be lodged as a Full Faith and Credit Clause attack against DOMA and every marriage law in the Union, to force the People to accept homosexual "marriage" as equal to their own.

Or in other words, nullifying the People on the way to nullifying the heteronormality of traditional marriage, as a way of nullifying Nature and Nature's God.

That's the goal.

Your comparison to Kennedy is no comparison at all....I cannot help you understand what you don't want to....additionally the reason for your unconcern is exactly what LDS is using...so you are either a Mormon yourself or you're unknowingly carrying their water.

Furthermore...that you would compare this to the Myan nonsense attests just where you're thinking is at.

Thank you for discussion but at this point there is nothing further to discuss.
