I’ve gotten stopped, twice,in the middle of the USA, for a “random ID check.”

Both times, while driving across TX. How odd.

And I am a ginger.

ive spent years arguing with people about 'sobriety *checkpoints*'...insurance/registration *checkpoints* and the latest and greatest hwy 'safety' [seatbelt] coug *checkpoints* and being told that they arent a big deal...

just make sure all my papers are up to date, dont drink and drive, and wear the seatbelt and...and...and...

we're gettin down to the final frontier, but i dont think theres any rolling it back, as the public has tolerated it for so long at this point...

the bullies tested the reaction, and got none, so they always ramp it up further...

its what bullies do if ya dont break their noses...

We drove through NM (from TX) on our way to AZ for Thanksgiving and went through an immigration/drug checkpoint at 1:00 AM. They had the dogs out circling most cars but after they shined their flashlights in on us and saw two kids zonked in back, they sent us on through and didn’t walk the dogs around us. It was rather maddening having flashlights shined in our eyes while they asked a few questions and we couldn’t see their faces. I certainly didn’t offer up the fact that I had guns & ammo on board.

Is that what they tell you out there in the Peoples' Republic of California?

We drove from San Antonio to Tucson, visiting national and state parks along the way.

In one day, TX and NM alone, we went through four checkpoints, interrogated at the first three (”where have you been,” “what have you been doing,” “was it hot there” [trick question about Big Bend], finally, “are you citizens”). Dogs sniffing at two of the Stasi-points. All in the primary line.

We were in my husband’s F-150 — which has a clear camper shell in the back and non-tinted windows.
We hardly had any luggage with us, just a bag or two, a cooler, nothing stacked high or hidden. We weren’t grungy or anything like that, no endangered bird feathers (God-forbid, I was with a friend once who didn’t know the feather hanging up might be “endangered”). No alcohol, forbidden fruit, etc.

It was truly appalling, to not be able to go sightseeing in the beautiful southwest without “papers, please” every few feet.

The world elites kept/keep the borders open on purpose for multiple reasons, one of which is to further intimidate, harass, and delay innocent Americans. (We missed making it to one historic park because of all the delays.)

You are a stone liar.

If you are from Texas, you have obviously never left the comfort of the suburbs. Head down to South Texas, and you will come across checkpoints at some point, and well inland I might add. Hell, about 5 years ago I've had BP come on to my family's land and question what we were doing on private property. Keep in mind that BP doesn't give a damn if illegals keep trashing our hunting cabins and the buildings on the outer reaches of our ranch. God forbid if we are doing some work on a simple fence. Unfortunately Texas is a state where the political leaders are just fine with this crap. Sure, they bitched about Bush and now Obama, but when push comes to shove, they side with the Department of Homeland Security every time.

I'm surprised at your handle, given that you joined in January. Be careful what you wish for - Texas is a minority-majority state, whites make up less than half the state and are about to be passed up by Hispanics, and the Democrats have been catering to them, not to mention all of the liberals from California, New England, and Florida that have been moving in....

Last straw? Yeah, right. Who is standing up to this unconstitutional abuse of power? Nobody. Lots of big talk on internet message boards/forums, and loudmouths like Jones crying it on the airwaves (at least where he is on the air).

Yet the crickets chirp. America, as a people, has lost its backbone. The spirit of Liberty that so filled the hearts of our founding fathers and the thousands that spilled their blood for the foundation of this nation has grown distant. My personal belief is that it is directly related to how this nation has become filled with hubris in place of the spirit of Liberty. America has grown fat on the teat of public entitlements. The majority of americans are reliant on the government in some form or another, and essentially 50% pay absolutely nothing in support of this nation.

Amen to that, I remember when Bush and his administration started pushing for all kinds of things to "fight the war on terror", and more than a few FReepers were trying to raise the alarm and say that maybe we ought to be careful about all of this homeland security crap. They, like most Conservatives, were ignored.

The result was that Bush expanded the power, size, and scope of the federal government, and then turned it over to Obama. We all knew that when all of this homeland security crap was being proposed, that it would come back to bite us in the ass and that eventually a liberal with a (D) instead of an (R) next to his name would be in the White House at some point. And then comes Obama. Obama he looks around at all that George Bush has wrought and decides he can expand the government a little more. And then somebody will come after Obama and do the same. Doesn't matter if they have an (R) or (D) next to their names, Republicans created this DHS/TSA nightmare under Bush, and they have shown they have no intentions of trying to put the genie back in the bottle. Haven't heard Republican leaders, Boehner, Romney, anybody else saying that we ought to put the brakes on and go back to a more limited government and rethink the DHS/TSA crap.

Within a few generations, our grandchildren's grandchildren will be cursing us.

That is, if they realized what we have given away.

In my area the Border Patrol sets up a road block, stops all vehicles and runs the drug dog around some/all depending on the stop. It has been to court many times, just as DUI checkpoints have. I think it has something to do with stopping everyone as opposed to random stops. BUT, BP within 50 miles of the border also does a lot of random stops with/without dogs and asks to search sometimes. Supposedly the government, especially BP has extraordinary powers within 50 miles of border.

Border Patrol, on I-10, east of El Paso, both times.

First time, I was driving a new car I bought in NM - a 2005 Mustang GT Convertable, that I got for $15k less than I could have in Virginia. Brand new. Man, I loved that car. When I got it home, first thing my wife did, was run out and slap my daughter’s baby seat in it.

Peeing on her tree, she was.

Second time, I was tired of flying - so I took the old MPV (Junker) to NM. Hey, it got better milage than the mustang!

Sure as heck, random border patrol stop on I-10, in the middle of texas.

“Ihre papieren, Bitte!”

Good thing I already speak German.
