COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - Johnny Ray Noble is pastor at Second Nazareth Baptist Church in Columbia.
He said he wasn't surprised by President Barack Obama's stance on gay marriage.
"I was somewhat disappointed," said Noble.
In an interview this week, the President said he supported same-sex unions.
"At a certain point, I've just concluded that for me personally, it is important for me to go ahead and affirm that I think same sex couples should be able to get married," said President Obama.
"I thought I'd never hear those words from him being a Christian," said Noble, "Him being happily married to Michelle and two small children. I wondered what the impact would be for him and his family.
Noble worries the President's stance could impact the future of marriage at the altar. The 37- year-old pastor believes that God ordained marriage only for a man and woman.
He said it's a religious matter, not a civil rights issue. Noble believes the President's opinion is calculated.
"I kind of feel that this was serving some self-interests as we lead into this election," he said, "Possibly an attempt to win over gay rights supporters."
Noble's 500-member church is mostly black and he says they typically vote as democrats.
In 2008, the President received 95% of the black vote, according to Pew Research.
Despite the conflicting views on marriage, Noble believes his congregation will vote based on issues like the economy and healthcare.
"I don't think it's going to change our votes across the board in the African-American community," said Noble. "I don't think you'll see people jumping on the Republican bandwagon just because the President feels one way. It's his opinion. We're entitled to it and that's what makes us America."
It appears some African-Americans are changing their minds on the issue of gay marriage. According to the Pew Research Center, in 2008, 63% of African-Americans opposed legalizing same-sex unions. But in a 2012 study, 49% of African Americans say they oppose the unions.
There will be cracks in Obama support with this cynical political posture.
He’s black, that is why he is uneasy. Blacks don’t criticize other blacks, ever.

Obama is a longtime supporter of killing the innocent unborn.
He is trying to force Christian institutions into paying for abortions and birth control.
What in Heaven’s name makes this Pastor think Obama is a Christian?
Not to worry. Blacks will alter their religious views in order to remain good Democrats. It’s what all Democrats do.

The black church compromised long ago when it decided it would support abortion, gay rights, and anti-semitism. For many, the civil rights struggle has even replaced religion.
To expect the black church to take a principled stand against abortion, gay rights, and anti-semitism; and against those politicians who support such; is to be
disappointed.

The Black church is no more a church than the "nation of islam" is islamic. Blacks have (like so many peoples before them) reacted to an inferiority complex caused by centuries of mistreatment with self-deification. They are neither chrstians nor moslems; their race is their religion.
They don't even consider themselves co-religionists of white chrstians (the term "brother" has only a racial meaning for them).
What kind of logic claims simultaneously that the ancient Israelites, and the Pharaoh who enslaved them, were actually Black?
I don't know when this rot started, but it apparently started a very long time ago. I wonder now if Blacks ever were Fundamentalists or just worshiped like them.

I don't mean this to be an insult, but you're making absolutely no sense whatsoever.
He endorsed homosexuality because the Left supports it, not to prove he's not a moslem.
Did anyone ever doubt that O was for gay marriage? When he said he believed in traditional marriage, everyone knew he was taking that position for political cover. His supporters knew it, and his opponents knew it.
So now that he claims to supposedly change his position, it is presented that he has "grown" and has now shown political courage. Does that mean he showed political cowardice previously? Does that mean he was dishonest previously? Does that mean he is prepared to say whatever he has to say for political gain?
Of course it does, and everyone knows it, his supporters, his opponents, everyone.

The guy has wrecked the economy, and is in the process of wrecking the healthcare system. And those are his good points.

I'm sure not. The 3000 year-old moral order you proclaim on Sundays is just for Sundays.
The Supreme Court has been ruling that we are not a Christian country any longer. We are a pagan country now.
For ourselves, we have to distinguish between a pagan marriage and a religious marriage. A religious marriage is a sacramental marriage between a man and a woman in accordance with God’s law. A pagan country can define pagan marriage however it wants to. Obama is part of that.
Christians should always say Sacramental Marriage.

“Reverend Noble,
Mr. obama IS NOT, and NEVER HAS BEEN a Christian. Christians don’t believe it is okay to murder an unborn baby. Christians don’t believe if that unborn baby survives your attempt to murder it that it’s okay to dump it in a closet and let it die without medical care and nourishment.
Christians don’t ignore the National Day of Prayer and Easter; Christians don’t celebrate ramahdan and other muslim holidays. Christians don’t believe that the muslim call to pray is the most beautiful sound in the world. Christians don’t recite the muslim prayers.
Christians don’t say if the winds change that they will stand for the muslims.
Christians don’t sit for twenty years in a church where the minister says “God damn America” or “God damn” anything else and pretend they don’t hear it.
Christians don’t engage in libel and slander against other citizens when they donate to politicians in the OTHER political party.
Christians know that homosexuality is a sin and do NOT think queers should have the right to marry someone of the same gender.
Christians know the Bible says if you don’t work, you don’t eat. Therefore, Christians don’t believe in taking money out of a worker’s pocket to give to a non-worker.

What really blows my mind is that they vote for the party
that in most cases from what i can find in the history books fought tooth and nail to keep them slaves.
Actually i am neutral when it comes to the war between the north and the south, if anything i may favor the south a little because i can now see what the people who were there could not see and that is the complete take over of the nation by the federal Government.
Another reason i like the people of the south is that when i was about 15 i traveled the south, mostly Texas, i was hungry most of the time and would have starved if not for those people with good hearts.
They may not have been religious but they had something more, and that was God in their hearts, just imagine throwing some one in jail just as an excuse to feed them, that is what it used to be about in the south.
And i met a lot of black people with the same kind of hearts,so i am convinced that even though this has become a racial thing that it is most likely caused by the men behind the masked, and they are most likely the white who also has control over Obama.
People are letting the two parties control their thinking, it is a two way street both parties want control of the world, but they do want to control.
