Arlen Specter to Utah voters: Keep Orrin Hatch
Daily Caller ^ | May 12, 2012 | Jeff Poor

Posted on 05/14/2012 10:25:47 AM PDT by bkopto

It’s probably not the endorsement that incumbent Utah Sen. Orrin Hatch needs right now, as the Republican is locked up in a primary challenge from Dan Liljenquist.

But Saturday on Melissa Harris-Perry’s MSNBC show, former Pennsylvania Sen. Arlen Specter, the co-author of “Life Among the Cannibals: A Political Career, a Tea Party Uprising, and the End of Governing As We Know It,” pleaded with Utah voters to keep their senior senator.

Specter told Harris-Perry that the current climate in Washington, D.C. isn’t lending itself to electoral success for moderate incumbents, which he said has been the focus of a crusade outlined in his book.

“No, that is what is happening in Washington today. … [It] happened again in the last few days when Sen. Dick Lugar was cannibalized,” Specter said. “Cannibals are devouring senators. If you don’t follow orthodoxy, vote the party line right down the line, if you have a 93 percent conservative voting record like Bob Bennett in Utah — that is not conservative enough.”

Specter pointed to other elections which a GOP “establishment” candidate lost — or almost lost — to a tea party candidate. He asked Utah voters to keep Hatch in the U.S. Senate and avoid repeating that pattern.

“The cannibals function to cost the Republicans the senate seat in Colorado and Delaware and Nevada, almost in Alaska, and now Orrin Hatch is in jeopardy in Utah,” he continued...

Snarlin’ Arlen is at it again. No conservative should listen to this D turned R turned D when it comes to selecting a GOP senator.

“if you have a 93 percent conservative voting record like Bob Bennett in Utah — that is not conservative enough”

The conservative voting record ratings are misleading because of all the unanimous consents in the senate.

Unanimous consents should be used for minor issues like waiving the reading of the journal, etc. where there is no disagreement. Senators should vote by name on every resolution, amendment and nomination so we know exactly where they stand. Legislation should not be passing with only the chair and one senator.

What a nasty, evil thing to do to Orrin Hatch!

What did Hatch ever do to Specter to merit this kind of treatment?

And Benedict Arlen has one microscopic nit of credibility because . . . ????

My contempt for Specter may be greater than what I hold for Obama. . . but what is a thimble full of difference in a whole ocean?

Bob Bennett, like Juan McCain, did have a reasonably conservative voting record.

The problem was not the 7%. The problem was and is their fondness for poking conservatives in the eye with a sharp stick on issues such as amnesty for illegal aliens, McCain-Feingold and the like.

Specter is a Democrat. What does he care about Republican voters “cannibalizing” the GOP establishment? He should be pleased that the Tea Party, in his view, allowed the Dems to pick up seats in Delaware, Nevada, and Colorado.

Ah, Arlen “Scottish Law” Specter weighs in on the UT senate race. So Arlen, Donkey turned RINO turned Donkey is endorsing Orrin Hatch for the U.S. Senate? People had better put Orrin under suicide watch after this. A Specter endorsement is a likely “kiss of death” for Hatch. And the hits keep on coming.

I thought that whole silly Tea Party thing, that astro-turf movement was dead. I thought the organizers of that fake movement had quit funding it and conservatism was finished.

Why the need to keep demonizing a dead and gone relic of a failed movement?

Yes they are! and it has been a detriment to the country ever since they changed it form the state legislature who elected senators! If we went back to the original constitution before that amendment the senate would be republican and would have been republican for many years, and the senators would be beholden to the states they are from and not to the federal bureaucracy!

Exactly! If the MSM and liberals were so convinced that the Tea Party movement was inconsiquential and is now dead, why do they have to keep beating it, bringing it to life and pronouncing it dead again? Because they first want to try and ignore it. Then they want to marginalize it. Finally, they are afraid of it and what losses like Lugar's represent.

They have a feeling, but won't admit, the country is awakening on the right side of the bed. How can they change that? They announce how stupid and small and insignificant it is while also warning of the impending doom the conservative movement will have on this nations thriving economy and fiscal responsibility if it ever does start to influence elections.

Maybe Obama can weigh in on the Republican primary vote in Utah too. I’m sure he could help his 2nd favorite republican retain his seat.

While we’re at it, someone call Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid. I’m sure they would write a letter to the editor or something begging Utah voters not to go against the GOP Estilishment.

“Spector writes as if this is a bad thing.”

No - to see him say this is a great thing. Just like last week when John F’n Kerry came out and blasted the Indiana voters for voting out Lugar. So Funny.

WHAT are the poll numbers for Hatch? Who has those figures? What’s exactly going on out there with this runoff race? We need details here, ok?
