A former Federal Bureau of Investigation agent and Carmel, Ind. resident was arrested on child pornography charges.
Donald J. Sachtleben, 54, was charged with possessing and distributing child pornography.
U.S. Attorney Joseph Hogsett announced the criminal charges Monday, stating law enforcement began investigating an individual allegedly trading child pornography online in September 2010. That individual, who resided in Illinois, was arrested in January 2012.
After searching the Illinois suspects computer, authorities discovered he was trading material with several other people. Hogsett said law enforcement were able to trace the alleged online activity to Sachtlebens home in Carmel.
Police obtained a search warrant on May 3. During an initial forensic examination of Sachtlebens laptop computer, approximately 30 images and video files containing child pornography were allegedly discovered. Authorities said several of the files discovered in the search allegedly matched files found while investigating the Illinois defendant.
Sachtleben could face up to 20 years in prison for the distribution charge and up to 10 years for the possession charge. Both charges carry up to a $250,000 fine and lifetime supervised release if he is convicted.
Sachtleben is currently working in the Department of Forensic Sciences at Oklahoma State University and has been an employee since October of 2011. The university declined to comment on the case at this time.
In 2008, Sachtleben retired from the FBI as a special agent bomb technician. According to OSUs website, Sachtleben spent 25 years with the FBI, specializing in counter-terrorism and bombing investigations.
Sachtleben is expected to appear in court on Thursday.
I guess some people really do believe they are anonymous on the internet.

This is the same guy who went missing over the weekend yes?
No wonder he went missing, took his weapon, but apparently couldnt do the dirty deed of capping himself.
I have zero sympathy for him. He reaped what he has sown.
Maybe, on some level, he was ashamed and wanted to be caught. If so, he certainly got his wish.
>This is the same guy who went missing over the weekend yes?
Not the same guy but it made me wonder if there was any contact.
I dont think its the same one. Wasn’t that guy out west. This one looks to be in Oklahoma.
ok, my bad not the same guy.
Nowdays I do not trust evidence not to have been planted - just saying. If thisman knows something ‘they’ want discredited, or silenced. . .
“Nowdays I do not trust evidence not to have been planted - just saying. If thisman knows something they want discredited, or silenced. . .”
True, it is a possibility, but since I will never know the actual truth, I have to trust the Judicial System.
More and more come out of the woodwork.
You mean the same system that just announced it is charging Zimmerman with a hate crime against poor ole trevon? I sure as hell dont.
There is plenty of evidence to support your position and more almost daily.
Well if Zimmerman is hauled off to trial, and is convicted, what are we going to do about it? Riot? or just grumble and go about our daily routine?
These freaks are everywhere and should be exile to the sun or something. :p
We’re not without power - we’re changing the conversation... that’s bigger than you might think...
If you were knowledgeable re how the Feds and "Judicial System" handled the evidence in OKBomb, you would not be so trusting...
Well I don’t think every criminal case involving the Feds is a frame-up, nor do I think that every case is legit either. In this case I am inclined to believe they have a reason to suspect him of a crime.
Probably so. Especially since he is one of their own. The FBI is well-known for avoiding things that might reflect badly on themselves and their organization.
My comment was based on the fact that close association with the evidence and federal handling of it in OKC was a huge personal disillusionment. IMHO, today's FBI is far more agenda-driven than evidence-driven...
Case (from today's news) in point: FBI Seeks To Charge George Zimmerman With Hate Crime...
Pure Holder "my people" politics...!!!
Probably, until they come for us.
