SANFORD, Fla. —
WFTV has learned charges against George Zimmerman could be getting more serious.
State prosecutors said Zimmerman, a neighborhood watchman, profiled and stalked 17-year-old Trayvon Martin before killing him, so the FBI is now looking into charging him with a hate crime.
Zimmerman admitted to killing Martin in February during a confrontation. However, he claims the shooting was in self-defense. He's facing a second-degree murder charge, which carries a maximum possible sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole.
In the meantime, FBI investigators are actively questioning witnesses in the retreat at the Twin Lakes neighborhood, seeking evidence for a possible federal hate crime charge.
Martin was unarmed when he was shot to death, police said, and some accuse Zimmerman of targeting the teenager solely because of the color of his skin.
WFTV legal analyst Bill Sheaffer said federal prosecutors would have to prove the hate crime to charge Zimmerman, though.

That's a hate crime but the attack of 100 blacks against a white man and woman about a month ago in Norfolk, VA is not a hate crime.

Make it clear that the legal risk of defending yourself are greater than the risk from thugs, and self defense becomes rare, no longer cited as a reason for RKBA.

the FBI is full of anti-second amendment types. They would relish the opportunity to eliminate stand your ground at any price.
Of course the “this is for Trayvon” beatings are just fluffy love crimes.

3. preponderance of the evidence via hearing BEFORE trial.

It’s kind of interesting that they made the announcement Friday but got almost no press at that time, so here it comes again.
They have the msnbc edited 911 tape as proof that it was a hate crime. Ignore that the editing was to show his gilt, under the current attorney general, that is all that is needed. If he doesn’t have the evidence he will manufacture it or use something faked instead,

If by that you mean that Holder, one of the biggest critics/attackers of the FBI, now controls the institution, then that is even more dangerous than before.

The FBI is suppose to ask questions. It's what they do. I'm not willing to 'give up' on the FBI based on a TV reporters 'take'... Let's wait to see what happens.
