U. of Chicago medical center VP revealed as Jeremiah Wright briber
Daily Caller ^ | 5/154/12 | Jeff Poor

Posted on 05/14/2012 3:50:53 PM PDT by Nachum

On an appearance on Sean Hannity’s radio show on Monday, “The Amateur” author Edward Klein revealed the name of a close ally of President Barack Obama that his book alleges offered a $150,000 bribe to Rev. Jeremiah Wright to be quiet until after the 2008 election.

“Well, what happened is that after ABC’s Brian Ross broadcast the video tapes of the Rev. Wright ‘God damning America’ and slamming whites and slamming Jews and America, he was contacted by one of Obama’s closest personal friends — a guy who travels on Obama’s plane, who plays basketball with him, who goes on vacation with him,” Klein said. “His name is Dr. Eric Whitaker. Dr. Whitaker is the vice president of the University of Chicago Medical Center and he’s a member of Obama’s very tight inner circle. And he sent an email to a member of the Trinity United Church of Christ.”

Klein reminded listeners that Whitaker’s hospital is the same one that paid first lady Michelle Obama $316,962 a year to handle community affairs for the University of Chicago Medical Center while her husband served in the U.S. Senate.

In an email, Klein said Whitaker had offered Wright $150,000 “if he would shut-up and not criticize Obama anymore.” When Wright refused Whitaker’s offer, Klein said Obama himself personally met with Wright, which supposedly took place after Obama’s March 18, 2008 “race speech,” confirmed by both Wright’s word and the U.S. Secret Service logs.

Gee....this isn’t by-chance the same Eric Whitaker, is it? Nah, that would be too much of a coinky-dink, wouldn’t it?

“The Department of Health and Human Services last week announced it had awarded a $5.9 million grant to a University of Chicago Medical Center program tied to Michelle Obama and run by Eric Whitaker, one of President Obama’s closest friends.”

How absolutely delicious. This is like getting handed two extra aces--

This is more important than just the story--if it is true that a highly connected physician at UChi really did this, and it needs to be thoroughly researched--this could change the game.

If and only if the MSM develops a sense of curiousity about it - thus far, none of the press seems to be interested in exploring all these strange coincidences where large amount of US taxpayer money seems to end up in the hands of people with close ties to Obama.

Jeremiah Wright, an ex-Muslim, would know how to accept Christianity withoug renouncing his Muslim background. These words are very revealing for it tells of duality of both Obama and Wright. It also gives insight into Obama and Wright both holding onto their Muslim beliefs. It is a stubborn mind, that knowing Christianity, will not give up Muslim beliefs.

Eric E. Whitaker, MD, MPH

Executive Vice President, Strategic Affiliations

Associate Dean, Community-Based Research

Dr. Eric E. Whitaker is the executive vice president, strategic affiliations and associate dean of community-based research at the University of Chicago Medicine. He is responsible for leading the Urban Health Initiative, linking the medical center’s mission of patient care, teaching and research for the purpose of improving the health of South Side residents.

Sounds very much like the high-paying job Michelle had while Barry was IL Senator. Sounds like this guy's a Dem operative.

“Obama’s pal Eric Whitaker, his Tony Rezko tie”
By Lynn Sweet on October 28, 2008

“With the prospects of Barack Obama winning the White House pretty good, the Sun-Times Watchdog team took a look in the Tuesday paper about a potential Obama administration appointee, pal Eric Whitaker.

By the Sun-Times Watchdog team
Dr. Eric Whitaker and Sen. Barack Obama go way back.

Their friendship began when they were graduate students at Harvard University. Now, Whitaker is one of Obama’s closest advisers.

Whitaker, 43, of Chicago, often travels with the presidential hopeful on the campaign trail and has vacationed with him in Hawaii. There’s talk Whitaker could be in line for a federal appointment if Obama becomes president.

Five years ago, Obama, then an Illinois state senator, gave a “glowing’’ reference for Whitaker to Tony Rezko, the now-convicted political fixer who helped Gov. Blagojevich find people to run state agencies. Blagojevich hired Whitaker to be the state’s public health director.

Obama has said that’s the only time he can recall talking to Rezko — who was a major campaign fund-raiser for him and for Blagojevich — about getting anyone a state job.

“Somebody who I do remember talking directly to Tony about was Dr. Eric Whitaker,” Obama told the Sun-Times in March. “He and I played basketball together when he was getting his master’s in public health at Harvard, while I was in law school there. He had expressed an interest in that job. I did contact Tony, or Tony contacted me, and I gave him a glowing recommendation because I thought he was outstanding.’’

Whitaker had been a rising star at Cook County’s Stroger Hospital, known for a program he created that went to barbershops to educate black men on preventive care.

“I did not seek any position and was stunned when I was asked to interview for the IDPH director position,” Whitaker, who declined an interview request, said in a written response to questions. “My first encounter with Tony Rezko was when he called and told me to come in for an interview approximately one week after I had already been interviewed’’ by three other Blagojevich advisers.

As state health chief, Whitaker spent millions on programs that used churches to educate minorities about AIDS, breast cancer and preparing for public health emergencies, a program hailed nationwide.

Whitaker’s agency also got caught up in scandal. He oversaw the budget of the Illinois Health Facilities Planning Board, which approves medical construction projects. Rezko and his associates controlled that board, which they used to solicit kickbacks and payoffs, according to testimony at Rezko’s trial.

Rezko was convicted. Whitaker, who said he wasn’t involved in the board’s day-to-day operations, was never accused of any wrongdoing.

“During my time as director of IDPH, I received four or five calls from Tony Rezko seeking my support for and attendance at the St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital charity event,’’ Whitaker said. “After my employment interview, I never had a conversation with Mr. Rezko about the” health department or the planning board.

Whitaker left the state payroll a year ago and joined Obama’s wife Michelle as a high-ranking executive at the University of Chicago Medical Center. When he was hired, U. of C. was seeking permission to expand its children’s hospital — one of five expansions the university sought from the state while Whitaker was health director. All were approved by the planning board. Whitaker and the U. of C. said he had nothing to do with those approvals.

“Whether and to what extent Dr. Whitaker had anything to do with the [approval] process while at IDPH was and is totally irrelevant to his hiring by or his work at the Medical Center,” wrote Susan S. Sher, a medical center attorney.”

excerpts from link in 45.

Whitaker was exchanging e-mails with the president right up until the night before the vote on the health care legislation. He was there for Obama’s address to the joint session of Congress urging them to pass health care reform. That was the night a South Carolina congressman challenged Obama’s contention that the law would not cover illegal immigrants.

“I heard Rep. Joe Wilson shout, ‘You lie’ and, you know, we were going to try to deal with that South Side style,” Whitaker said as the room erupted in laughter. “I was sitting in the first lady’s box, and I decided to comport myself in a little different manner.”

Whitaker introduced mutual friends of his and the presidents in the audience, including the successor to Obama’s controversial former pastor, Jeremiah Wright.

“I also want to recognize my pastor from a church you all have never heard of, Otis Moss from Trinity United Church of Christ,” Whitaker said to laughter and applause.

Is sending government money to pastors to talk about chronic diseases such as diabetes and hypertension good public policy? Whitaker said “yes.”

“Our work in this particular area was recognized by the [Centers for Disease Control] as being an important innovation for improving the heath of the minority population,” Whitaker said. “That’s kind of under some controversy as of late, but I stand by the fact that churches on the ground are important actors in the community with ministers who are opinion leaders.”
