.223’s ?
I seem to be missing a lot of info. When did having a large amount of ammo in Texas become illegal? Is there a limit to how much one can own? Is it illegal for an alien to own ammo?
I would be happy to dispose of that ammo for them at no cost...
The story had to be excerpted, rest of the info is at the link.
No - is a straight case... not necked.
Those look like either pistol rounds (awfully lot for pistol) or a straight-cased rifle round.
What, I have no idea.
Well, my first thought was some kind of 22 long rifle, but they looked too long
.22 mag?
27,000 rounds? Pikers.
The only think illegal about having ammunition is a law saying it’s illegal to have ammunition.
Looks like 7.62 x 39 ...AK ammo.
How many rounds are Mexicans allowed to own in the USA? To the best of my knowledge, there is no legal limit as to how many rounds I may own. There is a common-sense answer of “no more than I will shoot in 5-10yrs, because the brass will corrode”.
Now, if they were caught trying to cross the border - then shouldn’t the headline read “Mexicans caught trying to smuggle 27,000 rounds of ammunition across the US/Mexican Border”?
Could be 7.62x39 mm. AK and SKS ammo.
That would fit their intended “customer”.
Especially if it was IMI M193 or IMI M855. Not so much if it was Wolf, Privi or Tula.
They're illegal aliens, who are not allowed to own firearms nor ammo.
Actually, that turns out not to be the case.
Back in the 80's I was big into what we called then "Practical Pistol" and three-gun matches. I reloaded a lot of .45 and .223.
My attention got diverted, sold out of shooting and recently I purchased another AR. Digging around in what remained of my gun "stuff" I came across 30 rounds in stripper clips of some of that reloaded .223.
I figured, "What the hell" and took it to the range along with fresh factory stuff.
Could not tell the difference - it all fired with good accuracy and cycled fine. It had all been stored in the garage in a 50-cal ammo can (not a controlled environment) for 30-some-odd years.
And as far as I know, here in Texas there is no upper limit on the amount of ammo one can own (as a US citizen)
That is really not that much ammo for an avid shooter.
Personally I rather have fresh Ammo and dont shoot near that much.
But if 1 person shot 15 rounds every day for 5 years it would equal 27,375 rounds of ammo.
27K rounds? Good start, wasn’t aware it was illegal.
This Texan is chalking the headline and charges up to stupid reporter tricks since there is no limit on rounds. There has to be more to the story because, illegal or not, LE doesn’t check under the vehicle for hidey holes for merely running a stop sign.
