MTV will air its Video Music Awards (VMAs) show at an earlier timeslot this year to dodge a ratings clash with President Barack Obama as he accepts the Democratic nomination in a speech on the same night in September.

The star-studded awards show will be televised from the Staples Center in Los Angeles on Thursday, Sept. 6 from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. ET, as opposed to the VMAs' traditional 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. ET timeslot.

The move is intended "to avoid conflict with the Democratic National Convention proceedings that evening," an MTV spokesperson told NewsCore in an email.

Nothing must be allowed to interfere with DEAR LEADER, the Queer Media Messiah's Great Moment.

Do you HONESTLY think they would move this for the acceptance speech of the REPUBLICAN nominee??

MTV Moves Awards Show Time to Avoid Clash with Obama's DNC Speech

They moved it to coincide with Romney's RNC speech.

Probably not, but it wouldn’t surprise me if they did.....they still probably will make a point to put something on to discourage people from watching Romney, though.

As long as neither clash with the new Southpark episode cause the exploits of Eric Hartman is all the narcissism that I can stand.

If MTV’s audience is more than 1% Republican, I’d be amazed.

Does MTV think their brain dead viewers would watch the DNC convention? They will fill the time with some reality show or video games.

Why not just have the MTV freak show at the DNC convention? Combine the two.

Delusional idiots to think it will impact Obama's ratings one way or the other. The kids are done with Obummer. They may vote for him, but the thrill is gone.

My thought, too. They could have Looney Clooney prance around in a too-too and sing the praises of "the I won".

I don't know about voting demographics but it's important to understand that MTVs core audience has always, from the beginning, consisted of suburban kids in fly-over (red) states. When they first started out, you couldn't even get MTV in the big cities. Cable companies didn't offer it. They sold themselves to the fledgling cable companies building in the suburbs of middle America and this is where MTV exploded.

I Want My MTV: The Uncensored Story of the Music Video Revolution A very fascinating read of MTV's golden years, from their formation and impact on society until the late 1990s when they ceased being a music video channel.
