Skip to comments.Voting for Romney (D-Mass.): The Worst Mistake a Conservative Could Make
Posted on 05/16/2012 2:51:31 PM PDT by xzins
Yep, yep and yep.
I believe a third is: a new conservative party, home for conservatives.
Yes, I do know you are better than that. That’s why I love and pray for you CONSTANTLY.
See my post #41 on this thread.
I know we are coming at this a little differently MHG...but it is not because I am LDS.
I have no great love lost for Romney’s record in Mass...but I have looked into it in some detail. There are about 300 vetoes he made while in office and they say something about him if anyone would just research them all and see. Maybe he did not stand strong enough, and certainly not on all of the right issues...but he did stand up a lot on a lot of good issues...the huge majority DNC legislature over-road him just about every time.
Also I have relatives, strong conservatives whom I trust, who lived there during his admin and they say that he was not and is not the abject evil he’s made out to be. Particularly the stalk about his Judge appointments. There is a committee that is appointed, not voted in, that picks a group of individuals from whom the Governor must choose his appointees. Then that choice has to clear the vast majority owned legislature. Romney had no chance to get anyone remotely resembling a conservative Judge in place there.
Talk to long time FReeper betty boop. She lived there while he was govenor too and has a lot to say about him from 1st hand experience, about his economics, his gun law attitudes etc. and though he was certainly not what you and I would relish in a candidate, he was nothing remotely close to Obama.
So, I have come to the conlcusion after all of that talk, and research, that a vote for him, and particularly if we work hard to expand control of the house and win control of the senate with a whole bunch of new Tea Party candidates, that we can ensure that Romney keeps the commitments he is making now to the issues he has campaigned on and are listed on his site.
If he comes even close to that, the difference between him and Obama will be night and day and we just may be able to start turning this ship of state around.
I join you in voting for Romney for those reasons...as much as I had rather it been someone else (for me Palin, Cain, Santorum and then Newt)...and pray to God in Heaven in Jesus’ name that He will show mercy on us and allow us to realize these goals for our kid’s and grandkid’s sake.
Why I will Support Romney if he becomes the GOP nominee
I think I get it. It appears that you are trying to imply I am a traitor.
As you know, Romney was NEVER my guy, but I don't see how principles are being served by standing still or attacking the only people who can stop President Kool Kat.
A difference of opinion shouldn't cause so much anger between allies and friends.
Have you seriously reviewed Mitt's judicial appointments in MASS? Mitt's actual record indicates that he will nominate very Liberal judges.
With Mitt or Obama our Republic will incessantly move towards more rabid Socialism.
I can never vote for someone who's record has shown a contempt for Individual Rights and the belief in limited government (with the GOP-e pick and Obama we have a rabid Statist with an R or D to pick from)
I am at peace knowing I will do a write-in and vote Conservative down the ticket.
The GOP-e, Rove, Mitt et all laugh at Conservatives behind their backs. They have contempt for Conservative beliefs.
Mitt's victory will only be a victory for Statists.
Ugh. there = their!!!
See Ronald Reagan on government solutions foisted on the people by a group of elites, ie, Romney and the GOP-e. See also freedom and liberty vs socialism and totalitarianism and how Reagan warned us that the socialists would introduce socialism into America via compulsory health insurance, ie, RomneyCare.
Jim: I agree with all of that. But, answer me this: when the choice comes down to Romney vs. Obama, who will you vote for? If neither, isn't that the same as a vote for obama? That I can't do. Maybe the VP choice will make a difference? I know he'll never ask Palin, but if he did... in my opinion, that would be a game changer. Unfortunately, he's a douche and I fear we're all screwed.
It was hard for me to reach the conclusion I did back in 1998, that the GOP had finally morphed into the power/money grabbing machine that it has. I wanted so hard to believe that they still represented my Constitutionally Conservative values. But they don't and more than likely hadn't for many years before I left.
There is no way I could take the author's suggestion and vote for Hussein. But I have no problem voting for Virgil Goode.
Thanks for posting this. The truth hurts; especially all the "party faithful" that permeate this forum.
Got it? There's no stupid Constitution party that's gonna do ANYTHING!!
Constantly attacking the Republicans and lying that the party can't be saved is a lie straight from the Communists Party of America.
Constantly attacking the Republicans and lying that the party can’t be saved is a lie straight from the Communists Party of America.
Constantly attacking the Conservatives and lying that Willie Mitty is the way, the truth and the life is a lie straight from the pits of Hell...
What a crock.
I wonder if the thought has ever crossed their minds that the GOP - e would rather see Obama as President over a conservative.
What are you talking about? Go eat a dog.
What a ladylike statement...
Then, go eat a dog.
Is that what youre cooking for dinner ???
Is it hard to extract the bark ???
Not necessarily smarter, but clearly more principled.
You’re the one who was defending Obama. Forgotten so soon? Better take those hormone replacement pills...you’re losin’ it.
Im a stay-at-home-Mom...
I wear shorts all day ...
and I dont care for pearls...
You in “shorts all day”? Ugh, I just threw up in my mouth. Better than dog.
I’m totally willing to join a rebellion. It’s the form and substance of the rebellion that remains elusive.
Personally, I wish there were a way to separate red states from blue states under two governments so we could give it a go as two countries. We are just about evenly split in this country now with one half wanting liberal big-government socialism and the other half wanting conservative limited-government capitalism. And ne’er the twain shall meet. It’s revolving-door policies. We rotate between the two forms of government (w/ variations of each) depending on which party has control.
But conservative America is not yet ready for such a bold rebellion. And until they are, we must work within the revolving-door system we have, even if we want to establish a new conservative party.
I’m leaning heavily toward voting for the Republican nominee. The election is still six months away; the convention only three. Much can happen between now and then. (Natural disasters, race wars, civil unrest, economic collapse, the death of either candidate, terrorist attacks, etc.)
I’ll be praying about my decision until I walk into the booth.
No kid youre confusing the issue again ...
Youre the one who cant defend Willie Mitty without saying
what about Nixon ???
What about Reagan ???
What about Obama ???
as for my hormones theyre just fine thank you...
Im not the one sweating desperation...
I want every God-fearing, liberty-loving American to go to the polls and vote their conscience. I want a turnout greater than 2010. I want the tea party rebellion of 2010 to explode and go viral in 2012. I want grassroots tea party conservatives to be voted into as many offices at every level of government that is humanly possible. And if it is in accordance to God’s will then I pray that the new moral majority will drive out the godless abortionists, the homosexualists, the militant feminists, the whacko environmentalists, the statists, the socialists, the Marxists, the communists, the activist and internationalist “Rulers in black robes,” and all the corrupt crony capitalists, the evil doers and assorted enemies of God and Liberty from our government at every level and from all of our government and public institutions. I pray that we restore God and Liberty and sovereignty and freedom and self-rule and sanity to our great nation!!
Vote ‘em OUT!! Recall them!! Impeach them!! Overturn them!! Repeal them!! Throw out the anti-liberty, un-American, unconstitutional evil doers and their corruption, depravity and filth!! Restore freedom and Liberty!!
I do not fear Obama, I loathe him and want to see him and his co-conspirator Joseph Biden impeached, indicted, tried and convicted for high crimes and treason and jailed!! Or run out of office in disgrace like Richard Nixon. Let the newly elected tea party conservative Speaker of the House become the next president or let the newly elected conservative congress select a replacement president!!
But no way in hell will I ever vote for or endorse someone else for president who has a record just like Obama’s in every respect!!
We do not surrender, we reload!! And fight like hell!!
You should have great legs like mine...
Then you could wear shorts too...
BTW you do look like you could lose a few pounds...
Repeating all the leftwing crap doesn't help anything.
Someone else. Obama and Romney are two sides of the same coin. Their actual records in government are identical: Abortionism, homosexualism, global warmingism, gun-control, statism, crony capitalism, Keynesian economics, elitist government control, socialist health care, liberal judges and appointees, etc. Look it up.
bless you. I think you are right. We spend way too much energy fighting amongst ourselves.
There are a couple differences though. Romney was first to successfully implement homosexual marriage and socialized healthcare complete with mandates against the formerly free people and planned parenthood death panels and $50.00 taxpayer funded abortion.
Hoorah for our side!!
You have me confused with someone else. Nixon? Reagan? I’ve never said anything like that to you. I don’t know what you’re talking about, but I’m sure you’re a sweet lady and I was just messin’ with you.
I like your tag line...
You’re (and I) fighting a losing battle here...but it’s one to be fought with honor. Regretfully, we’ve got to pick our battles and try to win small fights...otherwise we’ll get banned for our beliefs.
Continue the fight...Obama is NOT acceptable. Romney is. If people here can’t see that we’ve got several more months to change their opinions.
If things don’t change here then there may not be a Free Republic in November.
Amen! The Tea Party will be the cavalry. At least that’s what I’m counting on.
Every citizen has the right and I believe responsibility to cast an informed vote as they see fit. So I don't take issue with anyone who votes "for" Mr. Romney. They and they alone must live with that vote and their motives behind casting it. Personally I left the Republican reservation about 14 years ago. It was not an easy decision, but after considerable thought and yes, even prayer I accepted the fact that the GOP no longer represented my core Constitutional Conservative/Traditional values.
I know that I will not live to see the GOP replaced by a true Conservative Party, but in my remaining years I will no longer drink from the Kool-Aide the GOP is dishing out!
And after having done that, I’ll yet bet a dozen doughnuts that his fall campaign will declare both to be execrable ideas. Without the slightest sense of irony.
Sheesh!! GIVE US A BREAK!! Romey still loves his bastard brainchild TODAY and still brags about it as being a “conservative free-market solution!!” Look it up if you don’t believe me.
Check out Pam Bondi boasting that she has been asked to serve on Romey’s new National Health Care Task Force and how Romney’s solution is “good” health care and listen to her claims that RomneyCare is constitutional at the state level and that they already have twenty six states lined up to impose it on us.
Bondi was on Fox’s Greta bragging about this crap just four months ago:
Continued accumulation of Primary delegates in the remaining State Primaries is the key to improving Pauls chances of forcing the GOP-E to hold an OPEN Convention in Tampa.
Paul will then have completed his main task in this Primary: giving the delegates the freedom to DUMP ROMNEY!
My goal is to defeat the insanity of Keyensian Economics in both of our very sorry political parties THIS YEAR!
This can be accomplished by the Delegates choosing a stellar Dark Horse Nominee, such as R-Rep. West of Florida, to slaughter Obama in a November Landslide.
The key is to FORCE the GOP-E to allow for an OPEN Convention in Tampa. Without an OPEN Convention the SOS of INSANE Federal Spending will keep America on the same crowded track with Greece, and Kalifornia.
There are over 15, 000, 000, 000, 000 reasons why spending more money this year than was taken in during the previous year is an INSANE path to financial destruction.
Neither Obama or Romney have presented a plan to spend our Federal dollars in a non-insane manner.
For example, the GOP Elite have stood in line to endorse Romney, to endorse The Ryan Budget, and to compromise-away every opportunity to reduce Federal Spending.
I included the Ryan Budget, because Rep. Paul Ryan himself says that his Budget will balance in 30 YEARS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
BTW, I added those exclamation points, because both you and I know that Ryans budget will NEVER balance, and thus will never be a fact. The exclamation points are just for volume emphasis.
I hope he changed his principles from when he supported the Equal Rights Amendment, and raised money and campaigned for Douglass Wilder for Governor.
...Obama is NOT acceptable. Romney is.
is what ???
I think you left off the
“NOT acceptable either...”
Like the boss said
Obama and Romney are two sides of the same coin. Their actual records in government are identical: Abortionism, homosexualism, global warmingism, gun-control, statism, crony capitalism, Keynesian economics, elitist government control, socialist health care, liberal judges and appointees, etc. Look it up.

I went to the Mass. Healthcare site and its what they said. Most people get their insurance thru their jobs and the poor people get assistance. That's it.
If Newt had triumphed we wouldn't be having these happy discussions.
But, I am amazed that any conservative hasn't figured it out after the treacherous way the GOP, treated the Tea Party candidates in 2010.
Romney is not acceptable to many conservatives, if the only reason you can find to vote for him is that he is not Obama then that is sinply not good enough.
Accusing those who do not like Romney of being part of the Obama campaign (remember those trueblue gluesniffers?) is insidious.
I have said that 85% of freepers will probably end up voting for Romney. Why is that not good enough for you? Why do you insist that a socialist leftist get the suicidal imprimature of this conservative website?
You can vote how you like, none of us on this side are telling you how to vote, so why does your side feel that need?
Unfortunately Nana I’m not like you. I also don’t agree with Jim. Obama is the issue. If we have four more years of Obama, and control both the House and Senate (60 votes), we’re still in a position to lose this country. That’s my belief and I’m sorry it doesn’t coincide with yours.
Here’s what’s worse...Obama wins and we don’t have control of the Senate. No impeachement (being upheld) is possible and we’re four more years down a Greece path. We’re probably actually there or worse. I understand the fight I just don’t agree with it.
I actually fear for the survival of this website because of the position that Jim has taken and the Jim Jones type followers that have sucked up to him.
Guess I’ll get banned for this but so be it.
