Menendez Can't Break 50 Percent Against Unknown
Quinnipiac University Poll ^ | May 16, 2012

U.S. Senate Race

Democratic incumbent U.S. Sen. Robert Menendez leads State Sen. Joseph Kyrillos, the Republican challenger, 45 - 35 percent, compared to a 44 - 35 percent lead April 12. Democrats back Menendez 80 - 3 percent while Republicans back Kyrillos 79 - 7 percent. Independents back Menendez 39 - 33 percent. Women back the Democrat 47 - 29 percent while men are split 42 - 41 percent.

Menendez gets a 44 - 30 percent job approval rating and voters say 42 - 33 percent he deserves six more years in the U.S. Senate.

New Jersey voters have a 37 - 26 percent favorable opinion of Menendez, while 36 percent don't know enough about him to form an opinion.

For Kyrillos, 75 percent don't know enough to form an opinion.

"We'll keep a close eye on this U.S. Senate race. Sen. Robert Menendez's lead is far from solid, running against State Sen. Joseph Kyrillos, who is about as close as a politician can get to anonymous," Carroll said. "As a long-time New Jersey power in Trenton and Washington, Menendez would feel a lot better if he could hit 50 percent on his approval rating and his matchup number."

Joe Kryillos is a little-known state Senator, yet he consistantly polls well ahead of his name recognition. Bob Menendez is ripe for the picking if Kryillos can raise the necessary funds.

Is it certain Romney must win in NJ for this Senate pick up?

Is it too early to induct Joe Kryillos into the “EARTH WHORE” society? I get the feeling he’d make a great addition.

Romney doesn’t have to win New Jersey, but he has to make a credible showing. It appears that Menendez has image problems of his own which he hasn’t been able to fix.

I don’t know about that. Kryillos will be a major improvement over Bob Menendez.

Krillos was 100% against conservative Bret Schundler for Governor in 2001, I think he may have been chair of tne NJ GOP at the time.

Never forget that this is New Jersey. Menendez wins easily.

“Never forget that this is New Jersey. Menendez wins easily.”

I thought so until recently; there are 273 billion Hispanics who support Menendez in NJ (/s), but there is little reason for anyone else to support him. The state is hurting while Christie’s popularity isn’t, so some retaliation might be headed to Menendez instead.

Menendez is a scumabag, thief, and barnacle on the ship of state. An unknown inanimate object should be able to defeat this blight.

My grandfather was a ward healer for Mayor Frank Hague. NJ politics are still corrupt. When guys like Lautenberg can get elected, you know the system is rotten.

Romney is unlikely to win NJ even if he pick CC as VP.

But no, unless Obama wins big it won’t matter. Menendez is weaker than Obama. Win or lose Kyrillos is likely to run ahead of Romney. What he needs is $$$$$$, very very expensive state. TV ads in NY and Philly media markets.

I know Joe Kryillos.

He is a good man and would be a much better Senator than Menendez.

Why can’t Brett come back?! =(

I worked on his Gov. campaign out of the Jersey City office when I was fresh out of college coming back from Boulder.

His niece and I went to all our public schools together since 1st grade and we lived down the street from each other growing up- I know the family and the man (not super close, but well enough), they are a good family and he is a true conservative.

He’d be great if he could get Christie and the RINOs to put 100% of their funds and support behind him. What would they care, its a fed seat?

I don’t know much about Krillos, but his website looks promising. He may be low in the polls because he lacks name recognition.
