Whether you're a Trekkie or not, you have to admit that there's some sense of wonder toexploring the stars and trying to find life on distant planets. Of course, the U.S.S. Enterprise is a fictional ship, but have you ever put in the thought as to what it would take to actually build it, and when we could get it done if we really put in the effort? The man behind the well-researched site buildtheenterprise.org has, and he's determined that a fully functional Enterprise is only 20 years away if we put in the effort.

Within our solar system, on one moon, is enough methane to power this planet forever (three thousand or more years). The key is to be able to mine our solar system. Yes reality bites and bites hard and the technology does not currently exist. At one point, in our nation, the attitude was ... you want the possible ... here it is. Am dismayed that attitude has diminished by Americans, during the years, since Apollo.

You took the words right out of my mouth. I can’t believe some of the defeatist comments I’ve read. What happened to the “We are Armericans, we can do anything” attitude? We mad it to the moon using the computing power of a wrist watch in the 60’s. Our technology has exploded since then. The attitude I see on this thread is very disapointing.

How about Americans put on Steppin’ Wolf and light up the skies with Magic Carpet Ride. IF our species survives there will be the need to explore and create.
