Pierre Franey plagiarized the recipe from Warren's Granny! Probably sneaked around in Oklahoma to find it! (Oklahoma, being so close to the ocean and all, is famous for its seafood recipes, everybody knows that!)

It's always depended on what crowds you ran with ~ all in all it's still about as Conservative as 19th Century Prussia.

The story was that one of the grandfathers was married to a full-blood. Dad and most of the family of his generation and earlier died decades ago, so we have no one to really verify the story.

Check the US Census. It often includes such info. It's probably more accurate that the memories of aging relatives anyway.

Back in the early 1800s, no settler worth their salt ventured west of the Mississippi without plenty of trade goods in which to exchange with Indian tribes.

So they ensured their stagecoaches had plenty of frozen crab meat, canned tomatoes, 7-inch teflon pans, etc.
